Bit of a shambles. Everybody being searched regardless. If you have a bag they are turning you away. Stewards no idea what to do in that situation. Told one fella to take it back to his car. He told them he didn't have a car. Queues in the rain for a game with no more than 500 here. Lot to learn.

I think the club response today was due to fans writing to the club since Saturday.

I am a bit surprised by the website response to be honest. I now accept that the "Test Event" was really a new descriptor for "Training". The stewards weren't trained and I suspect the club couldn't afford to train them seperately from a live event. There was no gender separation for searches. They did search kids. They did stop people bringing bags in initially - no suggestion that any steward knew there was a tagging system they could use. They did 100% searches so that the stewards were trained. The club should just have said that.

Did you find everything okay on Saturday?

The club is not responsible for training stewards - the supply of which is outsourced, and will undoubtedly be discussed in the review of Saturday.

Poll: What is it to be then?

A very poor, tone deaf response from the club. Listen to your customers, we don't have that many.

Sadly I agree.

Tone deaf is about right.

Just read this thread again if they need clarity.

This isn’t Old Trafford for God’s sake.
100% checks at certain games is practicable if spectators start to arrive an hour before kickoff, not leave the Ratcliffe at 2.45pm

The whole thing was over the top. I'd hope that it's just because it was a test event that everything was so serious. I do not agree however with searching children, safeguarding certainly comes into question.

The wands they were using were useless, I doubt they were even switched on as I didn't hear them bleep once at Sandy Lane, and I had a big bunch of keys in my pocket.

The searches and wand scans were also done very slowly, and we saw queues going into a friendly close to kick off with only 1100 in attendance. I can only imagine how this would play out at home to Alty, with the potential for a 4-5k crowd. Hopefully the club haven't been sold something that sounds great but only gives us more of the same.

Just to add, the new ticket scanners were also not working, and the turnstile operator was trying his best, but struggling, to scan people's barcodes via an app on his phone, which didn't appear to be working either.

Just read an apology on social media concerning delays getting into Old Trafford this morning for the Test match.
“We have the strictest bag search rules on the circuit” but there are anecdotal stories of butty boxes being opened, umbrellas being taken off spectators and one alleged case of metal toenail clippers being impounded.

To be fair, there will be different rules and restrictions at a high profile international sporting event than at a pre-season friendly at Spotland.

If you don't know why your posts keep getting downvoted, there's no hope for you.

Absolutely, I couldn’t agree more.
Just worried that the same criteria are being applied to games at the COA which would be using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

There's CCTV on the outside of the turnstiles, if somebody cared to view the ones to the entrance for the Sandy Lane/ main stand at abou 1410 hrs they will clearly see a young child who couldnt have been more than 6 or 7 years old being searched...that's very dangerous territory. The parent wasn't impressed. Basic commonsense seems to be hard to find these days. The new turnstile entry system worked fine though.

I may be wrong, but are there not rules banning or restricting the searching of people under the age of sixteen, due to safeguarding legislation. This is on safeguarding may also to adults, for example, I belief a male police officer cannot search a female suspect, I believe, it requires a female officer to do the search. I accept I may be wrong on this issue and would accept any correction with grace.

no they won't. the law applies wherever and whatever the event. under 16's can only be searched if it is thought appropriate and ONLY with parent or guardians permission.

Still have a few issues on this and the forum didn’t eliminate my concerns. Time will tell on how this new security firm go. With the exception of Carlisle this season, there is an absolute zero chance of trouble (baring any rival cup game). Drugs will be drugs and they won’t find them on entry, pyro as long as there are consequences for those who are caught will be limited. The hard line searching is pointless in my opinion. Keep it simple and friendly and don’t slow patrons through the gates.

I thought the stewarding was fine today, whether they smile or not is pretty irrelevant. They all look very smart. The new turnstile access has worked very well both times i've used them also.

Turnstile worked fine in the Pearl Street and I was shocked that three of them were actually opened. Did not appear to be any searches when I entered the ground and an older lady steward did actually smile!

They were searching everyone at Sandy Lane and towards the police box end of the Main Stand. Totally unnecessary, lengthy and completely contradicting what was said the other night.

However, fair play to the ground stewards for eventually escorting some United fans out of Sandy Lane. I know it was a friendly and a mixed crowd, but this bloke and his kids seemed intent on winding people up; the kids in particular have sadly already learned some vile chants.

When Dale equalised Mr Angry snapped, but from my vantage point I couldn't see what happened. The United fans were soon escorted out of the ground, though, so well done to the stewards there.

Also on the plus side, I didn't get told off for speeding.

A couple of the stewards in Sandy were wishing us all good evenings as we were leaving. Not had that before.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

The searches were actually even more thorough today than last week! I don’t mind, a quick pat down makes sense if it’s consistent but if they’re going to ask everyone what they’ve got in each pocket, then the queues are going to get ridiculous.

My niece can to her first game today, age 9, she was with me and got the whole wand scan (I didn’t!). Seriously, what was that going to achieve, especially for a kid wearing football shirt and shorts?

What is obviously lacking is common sense.

As it was with those United fans who seem to think kids are ok to behave like that.

They will remove a lot of the issues by ensuring the away fans are located no further than the halfway line in the block with CH & DA written on the seats. They will be far enough away from the Dale fans in the Pearl St and still not much nearer the Sandy.

Then keep both end blocks empty when Carlisle/York come to town.

Mr angry went over to the Utd fans to ask them to be quiet...Now kids will be kids and I had no issue with that, but the father was actually starting the vile chants off and the kids were joining in, fabulous parenting skills on show there...The stewards removed them and then went over to Mr angry to ask him to calm down...I know it was a friendly but there is no way away fans should be in the sandy..Or you get what happened today, it could have been worse had it not been youngsters..Or the Dad had taken umbridge..Although as half cut as he seemed he wasn't in any position to do so....A lesson to be learned for the future...Should have been removed earlier...

Cheers Moony, that's a good summary.

And when there's not much happening on the pitch, you know you get your money's worth out of Mr Angry. He's well worth a tenner.

Word to the wise: If you are in the ground, and care to visit Ratcliffe's at half time, DO NOT bin or delete your ticket. On entry to the ground for the second half, you are now required to show your ticket to be let into the relevant stand.
