Paul Gascoigne on 23:05 - Jul 20 with 3731 views | stainrods_elbow | I desperately hope I'm wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's dead before he reaches 60. He reminds me of Sinead O'Connor's tragic demise - so many complex mental/physical problems! In this case, much of it is probably related to cognitive/psychological conditions and his inability to do anything much than play football (and thus handle his retirement), fuirther spiked by his addictive 'choices' when it comes to 'refuelling' (alchohol, cocaine, whatever other intoxications). Whether you're Bobby Robson or the local bobbie, you can try to help people but in the end it comes down to an individual taking charge of their life or not. [Post edited 20 Jul 23:06]

I think sadly you may be right. There is something very self destructive in Paul's DNA. The mix of Autism, ADHD and Tourettes really doesn't go with some of the addictive issues he's had. Let's hope he pulls through this. He has had an extended period of being okay so it is a shame to hear something has happened to him again. I guess we will have to see if he has had some kind of medical episode or if it is self induced. Either way I wish him well.

Paul Gascoigne on 01:06 - Jul 21 with 3485 views | numptydumpty | Very sad but am sure all sorts of low life could be attracted to such a man, and as it seems he has never been strong enough to overcome his demons, at 58 you begin to wonder whether sadly he ever will. The added complications of celebrity, especially in today's world , where everyone knows everything, its harder and harder for Gascoigne to be free of people who would be unhelpful. Let's hope he can recuperate in his own good time.

Paul Gascoigne on 02:42 - Jul 21 with 3390 views | PlanetHonneywood | Classic case of hangers on and toe-rags leaching off a very weak willed individual whose only crime was a desire to be liked. Personally, I wouldn't want some of his so-called family and friends within a mile of me and some of them should be hanging their heads in shame. All he ever really needed were honest and decent people around him. It's a shame, but I think we all know how this will end.

Not sure if you saw that documentary about when he went to try and play in China, but I was thinking more about his father and that waste of space, James Five Bellies. But yup, Evans and Danny Baker didn't help.

Dazzling career, lovely family but stricken with mental illness and commited suicide at 55. Apparently near the end, he wouldn't get out of bed. Terrible. Great jazz pianist Thelonius Monk towards the end, used to spend hours trying on all different clothes and grooming when he got up. Then lay in bed all day. The mind is, or can be such a delicate unpredictable thing.

Any bloke who knocks his Mrs about doesn’t get my sympathy. Also had the misfortune to watch his hostile reaction to Paul Parker, having putting gazza in his pocket for best part of 80 minutes, it did strike me it wasn’t just getting outplayed that got up his nose. Gifted footballer but that’s where it ends.

I agree. Never understand the sympathy he gets. A wife beater and an idiot who injured himself in a cup final trying to injure someone else It's not always other peoples fault your life turns to shit. Personal responsibility unfortunately has been lost in society.

These happened in 1991 and 1994 and Gazza is 60 years old. Can't blame modern society.

This is fair comment, but Gazza was the first mega star as football (and Sky Fcuking TV) exploded and left QPR behind and he wasn't remotely equipped for stardom. I think he's worked hard to overcome his addictions and can hardly believe he's still with us. That said, there was absolutely no excuse for assaulting Cheryl and I still wince when I see the "tackle" that wrecked his knee.
