A lot of things we have known for a long time really. The lack of depth up front, the lack of strength in midfield, the need for a new left back ASAP. The squad is still a lopsided mess and we need to sort that by the end of the window.

Perpignan is nice though, I enjoyed that.

I'm a bit worried tell you the truth.

It definitely feels like there isn't a togetherness. Also I feel Chair taking the 10 role is like him starting again a bit.

Julien from the fans forum seems quite a passive guy.

I personally hope I'm wrong, but it just don't feel right (yet).

Marti and Xavi got the team well oiled, but it don't feel like that now... time will tell I suppose.

My ITK mate reckons we might give Bunny Warren a run out next week.
I reckon more likely Nosmo King or Hugh Rinal.
Well, we ain't got anyone else have we ?

I get the sense the new manager has been trying a lot of different positions and combinations. This is fine because he is new to the players and needs to figure things out for himself, but also means we will likely start very slowly.

We’ve lost our best defender in Edward’s, contrived to promote our 2cnd best goalie, downgraded an OK left back and lost Colback’s bite. Our strikers don’t strike. Meanwhile we’ve bought in players who’ve all shown flashes, but may take some time to bed in. Tactically there’s not much to hang on to, so far so bleak. But who knows?! Preston are as a good a team to start off with, if we beat them maybe that starts a bit of a run.

Nothing new but....

We're not physical enough
We've not got a striker who can play up top on their own
We're quite small
We're a squad plagued with injuries
Our first team are bottom third championship with our squad being mainly league 2 / 1 at a push standard.
Not enough leaders to be resilient

I agree with much of the above. We look defensively weaker this year. We seem to have dropped our keeper from last season. The left backs we have now are not an improvement on Paal who was pretty average anyway. No Edwards makes us so much weaker. Cook looks slower which is understandable. JCS still on a sick bed somewhere. Bloke is never available. Our central midfield looks very weak with not much creativity. And we have another game with nothing up top. Celar unavailable today. Frey has vanished. Kolli has vanished. Last season we struggled to score goals and we got into another season looking worse off with no Saito or the lad from Spurs. Strange we haven’t addressed the left back issue. I hope we can warm to the new gaffer. Question marks for me. Big couple of weeks for Belk and Nourry.

I think that's a bit pessimistic. Realistically we're two or three signings away from being competitive. A left back, a hard man in centre mid and a striker.
We've got two decent keepers, one of the best right backs in the league, at least one quality CB in Morrison with others with decent potential, two very good CMs in Field and Varane (one more needed although Vale looks like he might have something about him and I've not totally given up on Madsen yet) and a good bunch of skillful forward players (Chair, Poku, Dembele, Kolli). For the first time in a long while we have some half decent young players who, if handled correctly could go on to play in the first team.
We haven't seen our new striker yet (bit odd he didn't get ten minutes today to show us what we might be able to expect) and reports suggest we have another one incoming. Frey's fitness is a concern but he should still be good for 15-20 games. Maybe a case of horses for courses and careful rotation of strikers.
I certainly don't think we're going to be troubling the top six but I'm also not going to sh#t the bed before we've even played one league match.
The drawn out Eze transfer saga isn't helping as we can't be sure whether we've got nothing to spend or a decent amount.
It's only the Championship, not the champions League and I bet half the teams in the division are saying their preseason has been poor and they look like relegation candidates. Only three can go down and surely Wednesday take one of those spots. I think we'll be okay.

I feel that the ghost of Kevin Gallen goes unheard year upon year.

We need 4 strikers he says every close season.

Burrell is an unknown quantity, so fair enough, let's see.
Frey never seems to be fit for any length of time and hasn't really featured in pre-season.
Cesar was out because his wife gave birth last night but again, hardly any minutes in him.
Kolli seemingly never fit either.

I really hope we can get Ba in (if he's any good) because we desperately need some competition and right now our best hope is this non scoring lad called 'False Nine'!

Never knowingly right.

Manager has got Ten games to show what he can do, first of those Ten games Is next Saturday.

I think that's reasonable, I've had enough of sitting In the wrong half of the table looking out for other results and hoping we don't get dragged Into a relegation battle.

What have we learned?

That we have the spine of a decent team. Walsh and Nardi are OK - not great but good enough. We have 4CBs who can play the ball - the issue is getting them - and keeping them - fit enough to last a season. Varane and Chair as a 10 and all we are missing is a striker. All the best QPR teams I've seen have that spine. Players come and go around it but we really aren't as bad as some make out. Lower mid-table...15th.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

Yes from seeing the pre season games the terrible lack of strikers yet again , the paper thing. Squad even when all are fit this has got car crash of biblical proportions look about it .

Smyth where’s he gone ? Seems to be a cleansing of anything. Barr dunne with marti
Nardi dropped
Cook obv not wanted by the club
Kolli once again on the missing list
Bunch of dwarfs behind a striker we don’t have and haven’t for ages
A left back which runs Hamilinan close to tactical awareness and a manager with zero experience of English football but it’s ok he won the cup i. 2019 and likes young players ,

We have filled the dev squad sorry subs bench with a bunch of untried imports with little experience in there own leagues let alone the English league ,

I’m going. Less than ten games before the natives get restless

Absolutely this. Ten league games, we must (must) win 4 (FOUR) of them.

Doesn't really matter against who though I guess Preston (H), Oxford (H) Charlton (H) and Stoke (H) would be 'helpful'.

Why 4? Because 12pts from 10 games with several wins on the board keeps us away from the bottom 3 as the 25/26 table forms up. And, given everything that has happened since April, (no need to amplify) that is vital - for Nourry, the Board, the Coach, the whole club.

4+ wins would obvs. be fantastic but our own decisions/actions mean the club needs those 4 wins after a 'mixed' (...). pre-season. Somehow.

Not sure what we have learned is the issue (particularly as we pretty much knew it already).

More important for me is what Julien will have learned and hopefully that is that we are not good enough to play without a centre forward, probably we will be best off picking up points counter-attacking, we don't really have the defenders and midfielders to play it out meaningfully from the back and Steve Bould is going to be needed to work double time.

Hopefully if JS has learned the above in the 5 weeks that he has been here then we might pick up more points in our first 15 games than we did last season.

Nt a great showing from the game today. I was more concerned or maybe confused, about something Dembele said in the training video. At the 4-minute 35-second mark, he mentions that the training was absolute chaos. It didn't look like a positive comment. Have a look and decide for yourself. Perhaps I'm reading too much into something that isn't there.

Crikey.

You lot are a miserable bunch.

Pre season friendlies have no bearing on the season ahead. However, we have been ok.

Yesterday for 89 minutes we held a team that was top eight in the prem last season and without any of our four, soon to be five, centre forwards.

Walsh had an excellent game and in Nardi, we now have two decent keepers. Larkeche and Adamson put in committed performances at full back. Morrison was excellent. Field and Dunne showed their abilities. Varane had an encouraging run out. Poku, Dembele and Chair showed glimpses of their qualities. Sutton and Bennie are improving from last season.

The last two seasons, we have won two and one of our first sixteen games. Trust me, we are far improved on that.

Some predicting relegation. Seriously, dont bother turning up or watching and supporting you miserable lot. Apart from one totally forgettable game, we have been competitive in every game. Some saying its worse than the Ainsworth season ahead. It truly is not, can assure of that Some already writing off the new manager. Oh my days.....

We are Doomed - I tell you !!!!!

Doomed !!!!!!

Abandon all hope, ye who enter here....

One season we went into battle with only Armstrong and Dykes as our centre forwards. We had Dozzell, Laird, Richards, Roberts, Sanderson within our ranks. Armstrong was our only youth prospect. Willock was one of only two x factors up top. But really.

Dont panic. Dont panic. Take a deep, deep breath.

AND BREATHE !!!!

The goalkeeping change is the one I dont get. Absolutely nobody came away from last season saying one problem to address was Nardi.

With all the changes to the team and management keeping a solid goalkeeper in net just made sense. He also seemed like a positive character which will probably be needed.

I get the financial element of selling on Walsh but Nardi isnt even that old. Could have been a fixture in the team for a few more years.

We desperately need a proven striker, so lets hope Eze deal goes through this week and we can get something done. Not feeling confident at all.

Given how many issues are known, knowns - you would have to ask some questions. Why didn’t we fix the issues with better recruitment, conditioning and preparation.

I was happy that Varane got some time yesterday but is 15 minutes or so good preparation for the first game of the season ? He looked like he hurt himself with the bicycle kick.

Walsh did quite well to replace Nardi but did we really need to replace Nardi ?

But where’s Smyth gone and why ? He remains the only outlet with pace that can carry the ball forward in a counter attack and he’ll track back and cover.

We still don’t think we need 3 in midfield when we know that worked in spells last year.

We had a striker in the bench but chose not to give him any minutes. If he’s fit, play him - if not, keep him off the bench. We didn’t even start Bennie, who’s been the one and only outlet we’ve had for the last few matches up front.

Weird stuff going on - to be expected for some time I suspect.

Next week will be like starting from scratch again, with preseason counting for very little learnt.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

A lot of where we are comes down to ambition. We've made it very clear that we want to break even and the only way of doing that is to develop and sell players on.

Avoid relegation and balance the books...

That's it. That's where we are as a club.

So finishing 14th would be a decent accomplishment this season. Even more so if we sell a couple of players at the end of it.
