Saints standing their ground over Dibling on 11:49 - Aug 5 with 2123 views | SaintNick | This comment by an Everton fan on this link probably summed up the situation well. "While Southampton rate this boy very highly as do some independent people in the game, I think £40m for a 19 year old who will be playing in the Championship this year is a huge bid. Also why if the boy is that talented haven't any of the big boys come in for him, or maybe they want to see the boy develop before splashing the cash. Should this deal go through the pressure on a 19 year old bought for in excess of £40m will be immense. The fee has nothing to do with the player that's between the selling and buying clubs, but that wont stop the fans expectation. I am sure seeing all the speculation the boys head will be turned as no doubt will his agents, after all of this I just cant see him being at Southampton at the close of the window." Everton with new owners and a new stadium have fans with new expectations and that is massive signings. Problem is Everton at this moment can't bring in truly class players who want European football etc, so they have to look at the likes of Dewsbury Hall & Dibling. You read the comment and it tells you everything you want to know, Dibling at 19 and with just one season behind him as a first team player and just 20 or so starts, is probably not ready for the pressure he will be in at Everton, a couple of good games and he will be a hero, but a couple of bad ones and he will be the team whipping boy. The big teams dont sign the likes of Dibling anymore, they don't gamble £40 million on an unknown quantity, they will let Everton do that and then if he succeeds then he will be picked off by the big boys and Everton may make £20 million on the deal if they are lucky

None of the big six clubs appear interested and the kid doesn’t want to play for us anymore as his body language suggested for most of last season. Get it done Sports Republic and use at least some of the money to buy a quality goalkeeper and midfielder.

The fee being quoted is far too high, for all the reasons in Nick’s post. However what I am finding odd is the back and forth that is being played out in the media. I can’t see this coming from either club leaking it to the press. It surely comes from the agents who don’t give two hoots about the player but want their greedy cut. Is there an easier more lucrative job than being a football agent.

I think 40 million for an unproven player who has barely scored one goal in the PL, is a great price. I actually fear that if we don't sell him, he sulks all season, doesn't score any goals and his value goes down and we get nothing near that amount. I would be taking it and spending most of it on the team.

I think its a great price, I think it will happen, but i also think if we keep him and he excels in the Championship then not only will we be back in the Premier League, but his price will have gone up another £20 million at least.

There is that chance that he excels in the championship, but he is on a 2 year contract I think? In another year, he can start thinking about leaving for free and we get nothing. I am just thinking what good 40 million could do for our team next season.

Don’t worry about that. Will Still will sort him out .If Tyler himself or his parents had any brains they’d be telling the boy to go out and score loads of goals and assists in the championship to get us promoted then as Nick says the big boys will come in and snap him up for about 80 million and Tyler gets his wish . Everyone’s a winner.

That’s the problem though isn’t it we probably won’t spend all of the money on new players maybe some of it but probably not enough. I say keep him and get us up then he can have his dream. Looks live Everton have given up. https://www.goodisonnews.com/2025/08/05/everton-end-dibling-pursuit-three-player [Post edited 5 Aug 12:58]

Well, the ship has sailed and an angry Dibling has been left on the jetty. Everton came back with the figure Southampton wanted, only for the goalposts to be moved again. The asking price is now a staggering £50m. I realise that it's Saints prerogative to ask whatever they want, but to up the price when the original asking price has been met is a no no. Everton, quite rightly, have walked away and will look elsewhere, personally I'm hoping for Tom Fellows. who has far better stats than Dibling, to whom I wish the best of luck.

That's the murky old world of football transfers & agents for you. If Dibling stays, a more sulky, moody and petulant teenager you will not find in any league this coming season. I cannot see the point of keeping a player like that - and it'll be unfair on the new gaffer. I'd have taken the money and ran if it was up to me.

Well quite. I can't imagine Dibling will be very happy staying here on his 5 to 10 grand a week contract (as he is still on his original contract) when probably offered 150 grand at Everton.

You can’t see the point of keeping him when allegedly the price has been met and that appears to be the consensus view now from both Saints and Everton fans. However in my opinion we are owned and managed by a bunch of doughnuts so expect Dibling to start on Saturday, that is if he can be bothered to warm up. Then a whole season of clogging Championship defenders told to target him and kick him out of the game.

Saints standing their ground over Dibling on 13:48 - Aug 5 with 1867 views | PatfromPoole | I suspect there is some brinkmanship being played across the board here. Dibling will not want to have to put a formal transfer request in, but may have to. Hopefully Everton are not the only option here.

As someone mentioned earlier, where are these stories of bids and rejections coming from, we just don't know what the true state of affairs is, but from what I can see his new agent is desperate for a payday?

Everton may offer Dibbling better money than Southampton but he's not getting £150k or anywhere near it. More like £30.

Yes. Being a Premier Lge player. All of them grossly overpaid on ridiculous salaries. Most of them being paid more for one week than the Prime Minister gets on a whole year. I know which job I'd rather have.

Wasn't that the YTS rate back in the 80's when Matt and the Wallaces came through?

When Shearer signed his first professional contract at Southampton he brought himself a Ford Escort, nowadays it’s not unusual to see players in cars with six figure price tags. I know this is at the other end of the spectrum as we are primarily talking about Dibling, but I saw an article recently about Ronaldo’s car collection, unbelievable! He has a Bugatti Chiron that costs £2.5m - £3m new depending on the spec, a Bugatti Centodieci, one of only ten ever made, valued at $12m and even a Rolls Royce SUV which I never even knew existed! It’s called a Cullinan, which I thought was that huge uncut diamond, so there you go, you learn something new every day 🙂 [Post edited 5 Aug 17:36]

But the greedy agent will have to wait another year! Or of course, he will flop as a 5 minute wonder and we get bugger all. It looks like this Robinson lad is pretty decent and willing, let's give him a go and pocket £40m for Dibling now and spend appropriately

Agreed, I have no particular love for SR or many of their aims and objectives but in this instance I think you have to say credit where it is due to them for holding out for every last £ they can get for Dibling. Their stance on selling players who are in demand is spot on. We went through exactly the same with Lavia & Liverpool two summers ago. I suspect something similar will happen with Dibling, this could rumble on for another couple of weeks then someone else will come in, as Chelsea did with Lavia, and a decent deal will be done.
