I’d take them down a day early, send the coach home at Dartmoor, load them up with a 25kg backpack and tell them we’re running all the way to Plymouth.

Yes, why the need for any cotton wool? No one on the 4 leagues had a longer break from competitive than Championship footballers. We finished on Sat 3rd May and started on Sat 9th Aug. 1/4 of a year and a week. No other league had longer - Prem finished late May, L1 and 2 started this term earlier. Why the need for careful loading for fit young early-20s athletes?
Play full strength team at Plymouth and go out 100% to do everything to progress to the next round of a major professional football cup competition, the winning game of which represented this great club's greatest ever triumph. Radical and ridiculous suggestion i know. [Post edited 10 Aug 11:31]

We are capable of starting the season with nearly half of the first team missing!
We are capable of losing at least one player in the first game of the season.
I am all for a good cup run but imagine Sam Field hobbling off on Tuesday night.

The problem as always with the League Cup, is that this first round is squeezed into the first week of the season between the first 2 League games of the season and we usually already have many players out injured. Apart from PL teams already excluded I think most Clubs have had a longish break beforehand so why not play this first round the weekend before the League starts. I'm split as a cup advocate, but also the team can't stand up for falling down atm and considering Saturday alone had 2 more injuries and another couple of enforced subs - I'm worried that we completely fck ourselves if we lose more players Tuesday at the same rate...
But with the injury situation I don't think we'll have much choice anyway.

I also didnt add Bennie, who in hindsight should probably be involved. He's the best of that younger group imo, certainly physically, he just needs to pin down a position.
