For once, the early August League Cup match looks like an opportunity, instead of a nuisance - to work on a few things and learn from our mistakes.

Varrane out for at least one more week, concussion protocol

Thanks mate, I thought it was a week.
Apparently, it's not a set period and depends on the response to rest and how quickly any symptoms have cleared. It is a MINIMUM of 5 days, return on day 6.

Rumour going round according to my mate is Dunne out until mid-December and Larkeche out with a torn ACL. If those are true (or even close) then - barring emergency loans - I think it'll be dev squad tomorrow.

I want us to be about winning, but given our injuries right now I'm more interested in Watford on the weekend than in beating Argyle in the ginger step-child of trophies, especially since the whole team were gassed at 60 mins on the weekend.

Reckon players like Adamson, Mbengue, Sutton, Bennie, Pearman etc. will all get starts.

If the Larkeche rumour is true, a new LB is now an absolute must. None of the DS players are ready to step in.

If the Dunne rumour is true, at least we saw Morgan performing well on Saturday. He'll need to be tested more than he was v PNE but the signs were good. However, taking him out of CM for half a season would massively increase the need for a new body in there.

Lowe played for Sheff Wed yesterday even though he has technically given his notice, so idk if the rumour is rubbish (likely) or if he's working his notice period. We definitely need a LB, though, as well as midfielder. It seems we basically need depth all over the field now - a couple of experienced players wouldn't go amiss.

Nardi, Adamson and a lot of kids tomorrow according to WLS. Fair play to anyone traveling down there, you are mad.

Sounds like a nothing burger article, replace Nardis name for Walsh and you could've said the exact same sentence about the PNE game. Think it'll be a mix anyway. A good moment to give extended minutes to the likes of Vale, Burrell, Kolli, Sutton etc.

Given the injuries, I suspect it'll basically be the development team on Tuesday night.

That could be difficult. Both the u18s and the DS are due to play on 12 August

The squad players have to be a part of the squad and have their chance to impress at some point surely. Stephan won the equivalent of the FA Cup in France, he knows the importance so I don't think he'll go full Dev Squad like some suggest in this thread.

I reckon we should blood in all the under-15s as they'll be involved in first team fixtures come the Tue-Sat-Tue drudge of November and December.

TBF you couldn't accuse WLS with going with ' copy and paste' Sounds like yet another manager has decided to bin of a major competition so we can concentrate all our energies on finishing 16th. New boss, same old shite

Given that several substitutions yesterday were to do with "load management" and overall we looked lacking in fitness, I think it's guaranteed they're going to use it as another opportunity to get minutes into some players. Winning this particular football match is secondary.

Players are usually still catching up on their match fitness throughout August, so I would take the players that played on Saturday, baring any that might be carrying knocks, and add Pearman, Tuck and Talla.

Nardi can start in goal, Burrell , Bennie & Kolli in place of Celar, Madsen & Poku (Dembele) if injured. Adamson maybe can replace Morgan at rightback , but otherwise I would like to see a strong as can be starting 11 because :

1. a cup run is good for morale
2. the cup games can be used as more competitive match fitness .

Here we go again, why should that be the priority? Why are we not capable of playing one cup game without everyone's legs exploding? Why do we need to rest players after....erm....1 game of the season?

There is one priority in my mind, win the game, progress through to the next round.

A winning mentality. It's out there somewhere.

Agree with you that winning should be the priority. I am tired of watching them get knocked out of cup competitions in the early rounds.
Progress in these breeds confidence, but also brings in much needed revenue, especially if the games get televised.

Myke, WLS just said there will be young players in the squad. Just like the Preston game we had Esquerdinha, Morgan, Kolli, Bennie, Sutton, Mccann in the squad. There is no difference and you could quite literally copy and paste.

"New boss, same shite"

Based on what? Let's not just start writing off a manager based on assumptions and previous QPR managers. We're talking about a bloke who has won a major domestic cup in his country. That's rubbish talking about him like that before we've even seen the team sheet, imo

Great chance to get minutes under our belt. Work on our newer way of playing and so on.

Defo not a time for loads of changes. Go for the win and play the best team to do it. No point giving minutes to players who won't be playing come January.

And why would this be a manager rather than a club decision?

The medical staff will be preaching that we must not overdo playing time at present & the CEO is stating that we must rotate more. I can't see that Stephan has much option.

I understand the call for wins and a cup run, but we'd all be fuming if he started a strong side and they all ended up crocked. I'd be happy with a mix of younger players and a few older ones (e.g. Nardi, Cook) if it means we have a team fit for the weekend against Watford.

We can't all say that the beginning of the season is hugely important this year and then also want no rotation of players against a pretty poor Plymouth side.

If Larkeche injured his acl it was in training. Frey and Verane were due to join the squad on tour , but got injured in training. Poku went off injured against Preston, so why throw the cup game?
