Has anyone seen anything mentioned about a stream? I know last year NLTV had free streams of the group stage, don't know if this is still the case this year.

EDIT: It's live on the National League YouTube channel, don't know if this is the case for all games

Dale Win 2-1

Nice header from Levi Amantchi to give Dale the win.

It would have been a very hot afternoon for the players.

Burnley went 1-0 down then made it 1-1 late in the second half. The Dale lead restored very quickly after a cross from the left hand side was headed home.

I have no idea why we are in this competition but a win is a win as we head into our first league home game on Saturday.

Up the Dale.

Being treated pretty much as televised bounce games. Only caught a few minutes but Griffiths played and commentators confirmed he had signed a contract, not sure on the length though. Good to see the injured trio of McBride, Burger and Gomez-Mancini all feature. Amantchi looks a good signing for squad depth.

We have much better depth than last season. I thought Moss was the standout player who looks really good one on one defensively. Humbles was busy and Pettit had some decent touches, including a free kick that hit the bar.

Amantchi took his goal well and is a handful. I thought Burger had a good game when he came on, especially when he moved into the central midfield role. He is prepared to turn and run with the ball.

Awful game really in sweltering conditions. The first half was either passing it around at the back or a long ball to Burnley's keeper. 2nd half better with Petit unlucky hitting the bar with a great freekick, Hendo scoring his usual poachers goal, Burnley equaliser when Hogan fell over on the ball and their player rounded the keeper to score, then a beautiful cross from Tutonda and a brilliant header from Amanchi - just under 1500 went home happy in the end.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Good summary that. A great initiative by the club and it was good to see so many families and youngsters. A mention for the young Burnley players also, they put in a great shift and always tried to play football, they've got some talented players and did their club proud.

I think "Hogan fell over on the ball" is a bit harsh. Ball over the top, Myles met it and headed it out but they retained possession and kept coming. Hogan put in a brilliant block, the couldn't get it out from under his feet/tried to protect it and no one offered support.

As much as we all welcome the additions that have obviously strengthened the squad, think we could end up missing out on seeing Burger develop as a top quality midfielder. Never failed to impress when he played there last season and offered something totally different to East and Gilmour who both looked better playing alongside him.

Don’t expect him to feature much this campaign though which is a shame.

I always assumed that Burger had been signed as a long term replacement for Gilmour with his ability to turn and carry the ball. Reckon through injuries he probably ended up featuring more than McNulty would've liked last season and although he showed a lot of potential, for me he seemed to go through phases within a game of giving the ball away or not making the right decision- something which tbf is to be expected at his age. Himself and Edwards are two young players who have had their pathways blocked by the new signings and I can see a loan to another National League side for both. Is our squad at 26 now? It will be difficult keeping that many happy.

Will performances on the pitch and in training merit playing time? He is also an option for one of the number 10 roles and would provide more versitility on the bench than someone like McBride.

McBride was obviously still getting up to speed today after his injury, he wasnt match fit. Berger did well when he came on but instead of driving at defenders he stops and looks to offload or pass it back, we saw a lot of that again today. Also playing ourselves into trouble and being caught in possession on the edge of our own penalty area, three times it happened in the first half. We threw points away conceding goals like that last season and it looks like it will continue. The slightest error in control and the forwards are one on one with the keeper. We arent good enough to do it consistently, few teams are at this level. I thought Moss had a very good game today.

Thanks for that assessment. Not watched us since the back end collapses of last season and whilst always feel positive at the start of every new season, to hear about that kind of f*cking about at the back (first time anyone has mentioned it) gives me cause to doubt we'll better a playoff place

Will take in the Alty game on Saturday. Another win will increase the positivity but more than anything, i'm looking to be entertained

Jason Taylor mentioned in his interview that we looked “messy” today and also went on to say that we could have moved it quicker on Saturday too.

Have watched the goals, another cross and header for the winner. We are a real threat from that area now.

Be interesting to see if any of the Burnley players end up on loan at NL clubs as the season
progresses.
The number nine and number four were big lads who could handle the physicality of men’s football.
They also looked a lot quicker after making a triple substitution late in the second half. One of the subs (15) caused to end of trouble with his pace.
And was the big lad wearing 14 who came on in defence in the second (McEvilly) Evil’s son? I’d heard someone that he was in the Burnley Academy system.

Not sure who was who but agree that the second half substitutes made a difference.

Don’t do friendlies so today was my first visit to Spotland since the Southend playoff games.
And I was impressed. No problem with online ticketing or accessing the stadium. Stewards all seemed good lads and more interested than the Taurus lot ever were.
And credit to those people who were painting over the summer. The Sandy looked spicy and span.
Watching from behind the dugout it was interesting to see that Doney seemed never to be off his phone in the first half, constantly relaying messages to BJ presumably coming from the Willbutts gantry.
I know that EEL walked over there before the kickoff (although I don’t know how much input he might have) and Jason Taylor was presumably up there.
In the second half he looked to be in the dugout and Doney disappeared so did they swap roles during the break?
As for the game itself….did anyone else think that Burnley’s kickoff routine was different. Their bloke just wellied it out of play.
I was impressed with Moss and also with Tutonda who settled down after a shaky start. And the latter provided a peach of a cross for the second goal.
Pettit is a neat footballer and also looks a natural leader. Could be a genuine alternative to East.
Berger seemed to inject a bit more pace after his introduction.
As for Myles he looked solid enough and can certainly kick a ball. Too far on occasions as when he took the route one option it was sailing over Amantchi’s head. I was wasn’t too sure about his command of the box when Burnley put some some teasing corners across late on.
All in all a good workout and lots of game time for those need it.
How BJ keeps all these squad men happy is a difficult poser but a nice one to have.

Regarding the point on Burnley's kick off, here's a video for the footballing nerds which explains it a bit further:

I must say listening to Jason Taylor's interview it is refreshing that he focusses almost solely on clean sheets, goals and results. Seems the perfect addition to the coaching staff. I wouldn't fancy getting on the wrong side of him either!

Burnley kicked it out so we could make the sub. Not sure if our kick off routine has been discussed yet, but we start with both wingback on the half way line and they join the three forwards as the ball goes straight back to the keeper for a long ball forward. Immediately ensuring we are in the opposition half with numbers.

According to our official site:

Jimmy McNulty made eight changes from Saturday’s league opener, although Ryan East, one of the three remaining starters, was substituted in the first minute for Ian Henderson. This was pre-planned in an attempt comply with the rules of the competition that states there must be a minimum number of starters from either the previous or next league fixture.

Jesus saves but Beasley scores off the rebound.

Pretty pointless rule if it can be subverted so easily.

Clearly our brainstrust are far smarter than those responsible for the rule.

I was against this competition but yesterday did confirm the merit of playing in it. I think it gives the manager a opportunity to give squad players and those returning from injury minutes on the pitch and play some part in a competitive game. As a fan it's also good to see some of the best young players in the country. The downside though is the condition of the pitch, it's not going to be great this season.

I think that a lot of us were against this competition last season because it was shoehorned into the fixture list at short notice when we had a wafer thin squad and a pitch like Hollingworth Lake.
Planned a lot better this season and yesterday’s kickoff time was certainly innovative.

The event was also used as a great marketing tool by our club. It brought new blood into the ground, especially the young blood. The very young supporters had their own section so they could sing away every time they were woken up by a player coming near them. We often preach to the converted but this was a real chance to recruit.

It was the first time I heard new voice on the tannoy. Whoever he was came over in an extremely professional manner, directing us to the QR code on the scoreboard in order to vote for the man of the match. He also relayed marketing information in a clear, concise way, for example telling us that the shop was open for a few minutes after the match and even telling us where the shop was located. Very simple but effective addition to our marketing tools...we are moving in the right direction methinks.
