As I put in the match thread last night, the match going fanbase is already sensitive after the sour finish to last season, and to do that and lose torches a huge amount of goodwill unnecessarily.

Sure, we might win three on the spin and all will be forgiven (for now), but it also wouldn't take much for it all to get dredged back up again if we then went on another winless run.

Goodwill, once lost, is much more difficult to get back, and last night was an unnecessary destruction of it.

If it wasn’t for LFW I think I’d be just about done with it mate.
It’s really hard to describe. I don’t feel that connection to the club at the moment like I have before.
This feels like a job.

clive, its so true

i went to the game on saturday without knowing who was in the team and vaguely knew we had signed poku and the new cb (but didnt know who was who or what positions they played). i didnt know that paal had left and asked the guy next to me whether lucas andreson was still in the squad. i left the game being kind of indifferent to the result- whereas i used to care, im so numb to the results- i go b/c of routine, but not b/c i really care. if theres any little thing that gives me an excuse to miss a home game, i will usually miss it, which was not the case even three or four years ago

there is a feeling of helplessness that comes b/c at least with a bad manager, you know the results will catch up to them and theyre always reasonably close to getting the sack. in this case, our issues are our incompetent nepo baby owner, and his appointment of a narcissistic kid whose treating our club as his personal fiefdom. the owner seems to be going nowhere despite bleeding money each year, while the ceo also seems untouchable after somehow winning his personal struggle with cifuentes

as for yesterdays result- i am one who overreacted to the result. in fact, this is the most ive felt about a specific game in probably 12 months...

i think whether this is stephan or nourrys decision- they clearly didnt account for the fact that if this was in isolation, we mightve been able to stomach us totally throwing the game with a bench with cumulaive 0 efl appearances and a handful of debutants. but we've endured years of pain going back to the beale fiasco, to hiring ainsworth, to struggling to stay up in martis first season, to the first half of last season. during that, we've had no cup runs, seen us squander millions on wastes of space like celar/madsen and somehow sacked the best manager we had at the club since warnock

during that time, somehow the fan base has not turned on the club and has taken it in their hands and gotten behind the team way more than in the previous decade

so yes, if we were liverpool coming off a league title or palace winning the fa cup or even flipping coventry city after a few solid seasons, then perhaps this wouldve been easier to stomach. but stephan isnt coming to a club with a fresh slate- he has to inherit the baggage the fans bring from a decade of finishes at or around 16th... and the attitude towards ystds game was just another f u to the fanbase

The manager…..even if it is Nourry picking the team.

If it was not the manager selecting the team and it was Nourry that he picks the team, etc, etc then the manager should move on…….its his records that are being affected for his future, not Nourry.

Sorry, but how do you know if CN is 'a long way off the defined above the line delivery of the project goals'?

The OP labeled last night as a 'disaster' others that the kids will never recover, another that the fans will turn on the manager if we lose Saturday.
It is OTT and completely unnecessary.

Btw, "project" is just a form of gaslighting (hate to use that word)

for anyone who wants to complain about why somehow did/didnt get selected, why we chucked in the towel in a league cup game, why we sold a player or lost a match, the response is always that its part of a project. we lowly fans clearly dont get it b/c we're fixated on the short term, while the brilliant men running the club have a longer term vision we dont have the patience to see

mind, when we have any short term success, youll be sure the usual suspects will be out doing interviews, going on podcasts, etc trying to lap up the glory

when things go wrong in the short term, its "trust the process"

Don’t worry. Maybe you’ll get what you want and we’ll be bottom by November so Nourry can go and you’ll be proved right as you said earlier.

If the complainers are just emoting after a bad defeat and a probably even worse
journey then that’s their right.

But if they genuinely think they are making any kind of positive suggestion about how the club could and should be run instead they are, respectfully, almost certainly mistaken.

The club has always been a business, right back to Chairman Jim’s day.

Fans have been crying out for a development strategy/ “project” whatever you want to call it.

It is implemented with consistency for the first time and some, it seems, can’t handle it.

Would they really like to go back to signing ageing journeymen like Fox and Coleback because the manager rates them, and fielding them in cup games so we can be knocked out in the second round instead, and then face even more injuries and get suckered into yet another relegation fight? All so we can claim our customary 17th place? Is this what supporting QPR means to some? In other words, just carry on as we have always done, and somehow expect that this time the result will be different?

If this is the response to a defeat in the first round of the Carabo Cup (or whatever It is now called) how would some of you cope with a genuine disaster? Am not saying that to be patronising (so apologies if it comes across that way), but some highly intelligent, thoughtful posters on here completely losing perspective.

Been hearing that Nourry’s sister has been receiving abuse on social media by some “fans” who don’t like his running of the club. Not saying anyone on here would be moronic enough to do that, but this is where all this remorseless, boring, negativity leads.

Suggest a break from it for those fans who don’t accept the new approach because this is how it is going to be. Looking at other results last night, plenty of other clubs doing the same.

I don’t know if this helps - but when the manager says ‘it’s a bit special’, this is probably one of those french expresssions that doesn’t translate. ‘C’était un peu special’ would mean ‘it was a bit strange’. And not in a good way

I agree with the need to distinguish from the instant reaction to a disappointing match, but the circumstances of how it happened, the decisions made in terms of team selection, the fact that it required several hundred people to incur significant cost to support the team cannot be simply explained away as an inevitable consequence of a long term plan. These debates like so many facets of modern life try and distil complex and nuanced issues into a binary choice. Frankly that is nonsense.

Read the room, don't tell fans you have hired a cup winning coach and then within weeks select a team for the first cup tie you play!
Again another example of woeful communication with fans. If there is such confidence in the plan be honest and say "we are going to use cup ties to give young players a taste of what is required, this will be good for their development and attract new talent to the club". It doesn't matter if you forewarn the opposition because that isn't the priority. We fans might not like it, some may make strong noises of disapproval but many would get a feel for the direction of travel and the rationale.
Instead, it looks dishonest and a bit sneaky. Obviously people will react and think the worst, because that is what people do when they are emotionally invested.
Of course it will take time to develop a continuous line of talent, but you have deal with today as well. You have to give hope now as well as promising jam tomorrow.
The fans are part of the solution not the problem.

Hardly a “disaster” - it was a first round Carabao cup game!
The line up was disappointing and I don’t necessarily agree with it - but if it’s proved that some of these kids aren’t good enough then it’s achieved something. At least we can stop kidding ourselves our development squad is full of future first team players, because it’s not.

**Nourry he is a tit**

Can you explain why Nourry Is to blame, I don't live under a rock but I can't understand the hate towards Nourry, but as for leading 2-0 at half time and losing 3-2 by full time I honestly fail to see why Nourry Is to blame or even a tit.

The club leaked to WLS (their preferred outlet) that we would play kids.

We have a massive injury crisis.

Even without injuries we always play lots of kids.

Maybe the sheer number of kids a surprise but not sure that alone explains the outbreak of collective hysteria on here.

We've had two games and we're analysing the result/performances to death like never before.

Poster (A) says Nourry Is picking the team.
Poster (B) says no he's not.

I'm in the Poster (B) club because nobody has convinced me otherwise.

If I could be arsed I'd watch/study the whole 97 minutes through again then I'd know who was responsible for this so called disaster.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

I think you could get right. I don't see this as Stephan's decision, although he should have stood his ground if it wasn't.

Whoever it was that chose that squad for the game they made a right mess of it.
The 1st team squad is big enough to have been able to include more than Nardi, Vale, Kolli, Bennie, Sutton and Burrell (who was in my opinion , foolishly subbed at half time).

funny nobody has mentioned paul furlong being o=n the bench last night as well , was he just passing by and fancied watchina game or was he pulling the dtrings from the bench?

still not sure on the we will give the defensive coach match days off either.

Some great and opposing views on this thread. I'm not sure which side to bat on as both have sensible views/comments. However, as an "old fart" I am really reminded of this wonderful quote from the legendary Bill Shankly which I think is apt for where I see the club today.
"At a football club, there’s a holy trinity: the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don’t come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques".

You know what you need?

A project to get your teeth stuck into!

At the end of the day, it's just football. At times frustrating, well, with QPR, mostly frustrating, but occasionally, it comes good. However, what helped me considerably was to define what is my QPR? Certainly since 20 April 1986, it's about my Rfosi muchachos.

Whether CN takes us to the promise land and beyond or, to a juicy encounter against North Greenford United (Berkeley Fields not an easy place to go in January) nothing will really change. QPR is a conduit to my much enjoyed engagement with my Rangers chums through this basket case of a club.

Indeed, I am already looking forward to having a few glasses of chilled, dry vin rose with Daniele Paddox in Perps next August. Whether we simply stay and push on or, go on to the football, we'll see.

Here's where I am on it all:

I understand the need to put the DS players into games in order to stay true to the concept of buy them young, develop, sell them on. However, I don't think putting all the eggs in one basket was the right thing to do – you mix youth and experience, surely?

I watched last night and identified some players who I thought done well, and some that hadn't done well, but i'm not about to stick a red pen through their name and say 'they're no good, get rid' on the basis of one senior game. I think everyone should calm down a bit on that – in one breath, people are saying that last night would have shattered their confidence, and then in the next breath saying that 'so-and-so is crap and won't make it' - thats certainly not going to do their confidence the world of good either.

It seems like Nourry had the say in the team last night, which is alarming. Maybe Julien's hands were tied and he knew walking in that this was what was expected, but for me thats a dangerous situation. I'm sure that Julien is required to blood youngsters throughout the season, and i'm okay with that, but if the above is true and CN is telling him who and when to pick (totally guessing btw), then thats not okay IMO.

I'm really sad that another year of this cup has just disappeared once again, in favour of a 'project'... it's been a weird week - totally excited about Kone coming, and what that could mean in terms of our attacking force in this league – seems formidable, but then last night has worried me quite a bit.

Thanks , but I think you are reinforcing my point! The fact they 'leaked it' ( am taking what you say at face value). Why not make and own the statement and use it as part of the message you want to convey?
In relation to playing lots of kids, firstly not this volume or age, but secondly why in conversation with fans allude to the cup expertise of the coach. By implication this infers that there is going to be a different approach to cupties, yet at the first test we don't just revert to the usual approach but take it to the next level!
I have no view as to the quality and ability of either the head coach or CEO. I agree it is far too early to judge. What I can see and sense is poor engagement which has created a vacuum and that can be destructive. The football club needs to communicate more clearly and honestly. As to whether they have the right plan and a coach that will improve the first team performance we will need to wait and see.

Who was this disaster down to tonight.... on 13:54 - Aug 13 with 329 viewsBenny_the_Ball

Not sure it's a disaster but annoying nonetheless. IMHO Christian, Stephan and the Media team have to share the blame. Christian presumably decreed that we toss off the Carabao Cup by fielding our development side. Stephan didn't have the bottle to throw on some seasoned pros at half time to protect the lead, a lead we were very fortunate to have. And whoever decided it was a good idea to tell WLS in the days leading up to the match that QPR would field youngsters deserves a special mention. Talk about doing Cleverley's homework for him.
