Where Is The Money Coming From? 10:19 - Aug 15 with 3056 views | BazzaInTheLoft | I’m not complaining too much, because we’ve made some good signings in my opinion, but two years ago we were playing Drewe and Gubbins because we were skint. What’s changed? Is it a new FFP cycle or something? Or are we already leaning into the potential Eze money? This is always a niggling doubt for me.

I did hear a few murmurings that the profit and loss stuff was going to be relaxed or even stopped permanently and so not sure if some teams are jumping the gun a bit? I do think with some of our signings though they will be assets which get a decent sell on, so potentially if we need to in January, one or two could be moved on to balance the books. That, or the owners have the Eze page number 100 written and ready to post with positive news to report.
Where Is The Money Coming From? on 11:01 - Aug 15 with 2234 views | simmo | Could also be that the risk is calculated considering we have Varane, Chair, Field, Dembele, Poku, Kone, Dunne, Mbengue, Morrison, etc all as sellable assets that we can probably move for money at any point within the next FFP window. We know our intention is to sell often, even without the Eze money that's decent sell on potential.

I hope it isn't this. It's needed more than ever IMO.
Where Is The Money Coming From? on 11:24 - Aug 15 with 1979 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | The increased TV money, the stands/ground/training facility sponsorship, the tie ins that keep being announced. They would have had a significant impact. Coming out of FFP cockup with Johansen/Austin. Big reduction in wages. We also haven't spent much on transfer before this Sumner for the past few years. Maybe Varane. I had heard there was quite a bit more money than we assumed.

I believe that the FFP headroom is being increased as it has remained at £39million losses on a rolling three year period for years and has not taken into account inflation. In addition to this the new TV deal for the EFL and also PL which provides some funding for the EFL has increased revenue. Then you can take into account the getting rid of a load of DS players from last season who must collectively been paid too much for very little and also the release of Colback and Fox. It also seems that the club is taking a leaf from North Battersea book of buying young players, plus those released from PL academies. Develop these players including the likes of Poku and Kone and sell them on for a good profit. Making sure also that they have a decent length of contract which more and more appeal to players as it gives them greater security. Transfer fees on the balance sheet are spread over the term of the contract and the sale of the player appears on the balance sheet instantaneously. So the sale of Kelman is a £3m credit and the purchase of Burrell if the fee was £1.3m with a five year contract would show as a £260k debit. So we would still have a net credit of £2.74m based on those two transactions.

Where Is The Money Coming From? on 11:55 - Aug 15 with 1807 views | CateLeBonR | I think at the fans forum Christian Nourry mentioned that the rules could be changing in the next year or two, to something more like what they use in League 1. I’m not sure if that would help us or not. Also I’d be surprised if this is our final squad for the season, there’s plenty of time for more ins/outs before the window closes.

Hope it's not this, and - if Hoos is at all involved, I doubt that it is. Hoos knows better than anyone that's it always been our intention to sell, and he also knows that it's rarely worked out. Betting the financial future of the club on it would be shockingly irresponsible.

Where Is The Money Coming From? on 12:05 - Aug 15 with 1702 views | francisbowles | Wilkins has summed it up nicely imho. Additionally, there should be room, every season, in the FFP allowable for transfer and signing on fees. So unless we overspent that part of the budget in the last two seasons, there will be some available on top of the items laid out in Wilkins post.

I got so blinded by the point that we might have sellable assets that I hadn't considered this properly.

I'd been saying for years these owners weren't circumventing the rules enough.... in their defence that's probably because they threw the rulebook out the window before and got burned badly. However, glad to see everything being sponsored, monetised etc. I have no idea if football finances can also be "hedged" but I'd assume they can. We could, and I stress could, be valuing the Eze sell on money.... it would be reckless accounting but is possible I'd say. The good thing is the club seem to focusing on players who can actually run around a bit and I hope we can shake off this "if there wasn't something wrong with him he wouldn't be here" attitude. Buy yourself a decent car for your budget and use it. No point taking a punt on one that's got a history of breaking down and spends most of the time in the drive meaning you're relying on Ubers etc. [Post edited 15 Aug 14:50]

Overall I agree, it could just be a factor considering the bulk of our spend has come in the last 2 years, and this summer means we theoretically have 3 years to recoup things. Similar to gambles that most clubs take in this league, but their out is promotion or bust. It's just a theory anyway, even if it's part of our thinking it'll do on top of the increased TV deal, new sponsorships, some incoming fees, increased ST sales, rumoured FFP headroom increase, etc

Where Is The Money Coming From? on 14:10 - Aug 15 with 910 views | dm97 | Remember the Swiss ramble doing some really good tweets on this years ago. We as fans don’t appreciate how much of football finance is about wages over transfer fees. The Austin Johansen resigning are a great example - relatively low fees but high wages locked in over multiple years that you are committed to in one way or another (paying over length of contract or tearing it up). It shouldn’t have to be said but given some ITKs on here professing to know the ins and outs of everyone’s deals - I have no idea what Kone Poku et al are on, but I highly doubt it’s anywhere near what Stef and Charlie were, or even Cook for that matter.
