was a very stressful morning with my son
3 years ago he got zero on his Maths so hes had to work his backside off and ended up getting a 5 which is a C in old money. None of us could beleive it really, he was expecting to have to re take it
He passed his others as well and managed to get the A Levels he wanted after a stressful morning of teachers at 6th form putting us through torture as they were not sure one of his grades was good enough but eventually agreed to give him a chance, was like being on the X Factor
Am very proud of him, he had first year of high school basically as home schooling due to pandemic, he's had to have an operation for his clef lip and palate treatment and had to watch QPR for the last few years but he's got through it and has an opportunity to do what he wants to.
Hope everyone else got the grades they wanted and if not although it feels like the end of the world it really isn't, I failed mine first time and have ended up with a Uni degree and a decent job so if I can do it anyone can |  | | |

Similar thing but with quitting smoking
I came from a household of smokers apart from my mum
My dad (a doctor) had an aneurism and was told to quit smoking. I gave up there and then and told my 2 sisters I would give the £50 each if they would give up.
Both did and I was delighted to cough up(!)
My dad was in hospital it was a weekend when we were away to Coventry he told me not to stay at home and to go to the game
We lost 4-1 Don Givens scored it poured with rain and got drenched

We used to use "A,B,C" ratings at work for appraisals and the feedback was that there was not enough points in the scale. We would describe people as a "High C" to differentiate them from their peers.
We switched to number ratings "1->5" with 1 being the best, but no-one could get their head around it! ;p

For anyone in the same boat today, don’t panic, I circumnavigated the problem by speaking English in a very loud and aggressive tone whenever I’ve met a Frenchman and it’s served me well.
If id known that when i was eleven I could have bunked off five years of daily French lessons which served absolutely no purpose.
Hope that helps anyone who didn’t get the language results they’d hoped for. |  | | |

47 years for me, also got a U in French, rest all B & C.
Actually now regret not taking the opportunity to learn French and Italian (best mate at school was Italian).
Did 1 year 6th Form and decided academia wasn’t for me so did a 5 year apprenticeship in Building Services Engineering (heating and plumbing!).

Great thread.
I was 'top o' the class' in primary school. I 'underacheived' all through secondary school. I was 'lazy as sin' in college/nightschool.
Ten years later, I'd realised that none of those things were true.
It's far more complicated than that.
It may take the kids today a few days, weeks, months or even years to realise that it's more complicated than that.
They may stare at their results and may be tempted to feel that their worth is measured merely in letters and numbers.
They may dance, drink, cry, bawl, holler, scream and shriek, with joy, with relief, with pain, with confusion. Or they may not care a damn.
I wish them all well and hope they are all loved.
I hope they all rise tomorrow.
The sun will surely rise at some stage and it's ok if they rise a bit later than the sun.
