Isaac Hayden on 16:47 - Aug 25 by numptydumpty

I cant see him starting on Saturday. Be on the bench though, i hope.

My Pompey mate, thinks Hayden was ok for them, but he actually thought Dozzell has been more consistent for them than Isaac. Anyhow they have comrade Yang now also, so what do Portsmouth know that we don't.

Some kind of alternative universe perhaps !!!

Hope its a successful season for him.

Eventually if we go to a three, i could see Field, Varane and Hayden with Morgan and Vale as bench options. Sometimes Chair might play back there. Can only see Madsen as a ten or central midfielder if we have injuries...

I wonder whether away from home Stéphan/Nourry (who knows?) will go with two out of Field/Varane/Hayden and then Morgan as a kind of pressing 10, much as we did (to good effect) with Luke Amos? If we play all three in midfield then we forfeit a 10 for trying to score on the break? At least we now have the pace to do it.

Good move. Next I would like to see a midfield with Varane and Hayden as DM s and Vale ACM. In 4-2-3-1.

Hopefully he will be a good signing but I have concerns

- why Pompey never went back in for him and nor did anyone else despite it being very common knowledge that he was available.....

time will tell.

Thank goodness for that signing. Impressed when with us previously. Gets about the pitch. Puts in a tackle.. Very physical, 6ft 2in,. Loud on the pitch. Experienced but still only 30 so lots left in his tank,

I assume this signing was forced on the board as it is definitely not part of the project given his age. There will be no resale value for him. I think it’s a good signing. We need a balance between young and experienced players. Hopefully Nourry and Belk are starting to realise that. Now on to an experienced and quality centre back.

Have you watched his interview on the Offish, it's actually quite inspiring, he said he had other offers but there was only one team he wanted to play for in the Championship.

Think we have to thank Steve Cook for getting in his ear on holiday it's the small things that can make a difference, I loved his comment about how he found it difficult to play for Portsmouth against us last year, that's the attitude we need.

I do wonder how/when Christian plans to introduce Vale, as there's certainly something talented in there.

Maybe, as has been suggested, we're managing his return following a serious injury, which would be sensible. But hopefully, we're not kept waiting too long

I think and really hope you’re right but Stefan Johansen was 30 when he joined us and we all know how long his legs lasted.

The need to blend a sprinkling of experience - and, importantly, good professionalism - with young talent is a great example of the kind of thing that is quite obvious to someone who has watched football for a long time, but perhaps less obvious to someone in their twenties... . Hopefully it will be a lesson learned.

I'd normally have been very positive about yesterday's signings, and hopefully will be over time.

But at the minute it's hard to know what the plan is going to be to use them. If it's more semi-fit dicking about, coordinated by our corporate structure rather than the manager, then I'm not too positive. Strange times even for us.

Yes, he comes across as a good lad....but dont they all??

I hope he does come good, we certainly need it.

I like the bit where he says we should be looking at the top 10 or the playoffs. Fair play.

Funny metaphor ('pulled the trigger') for an applauded incoming. So you think they basically tied up the contract, filmed the welcome video, and wrote the news release over a Bank Holiday weekend, do you? You sound like the kind of sad sack who just has to be the sneering cynic in the corner whatever the club does and whenever they do it.

Utterly unnecessary and decidedly rich coming from you.

I have never understood why teams with a keeper who can pass dont bypass the press with a clip into midfield where there should be space .

Isaac Hayden on 15:13 - Aug 25 by Ned_Kennedys

Not a chance this was all done since 5pm Saturday.

No one said it was, Ned. In all likelihood QPR expressed an interest earlier in the summer but were perhaps put off by wage demands and the player's profile not fitting the model. Consider the evidence. A free agent of good character who'd previously enjoyed a successful loan spell wasn't signed before the season started by a club hell bent on lowering the average age of the squad and developing young players with sell-on potential. There was also precious little pre-signing chatter, unlike the Saito and RND signings. Saturday's debacle, in my opinion, was the tipping point.

That all being said, I'm pleased to see him join. He'll certainly add some steel and know-how to the middle of the park. I'd still like to see a more dynamic, incisive, goal-scoring central midfielder at the club but, hey, good things come to those who wait (and wait).

I got a laugh out of telling a Newcastle fan in the office that QPR had just signed Issac from them.

The penny dropped after more than a few seconds.

I really hope we didn't break our wage structure for this player. Its an upgrade on Colback for sure, but I'm worried for the dressing room if we are creating the kind of pay divide we've not seen since the Premier League.

There are probably players in our squad who are on £2-3k p/w having just left the EDS are they really going to be x10 worse than Hayden?

Fingers crossed this one works

Your having a dig at Nourry on every single thread regardless of topic is getting a bit boring now.

So given your strength of feeling on this, why haven't we completed this one sooner? Facinated to know how you percive this?

You're also completely out of order. If you were wondering.

Can I offer a thought.....Jimmy was made captain and Issac now looks more suited to it so a bit awkward in term of man management I wonder.

Age will have been be a factor to the dear leader as well I expect.

We’ve needed this guy from the moment he left really.
I get why they’ve been reluctant to do it but I think a huge lesson atm is not everything and everybody can be part of the bloody “project”. You have to have a competitive team on the field that can hold its own in the division.

That's a bit Frank Doberman. There's no reason to assume we're busting the bank for Hayden, it's not as if the top teams in the division were clamouring for his signature. What he was on at Newcastle became irrelevant the day his contract expired.

Agreed. He had nine years at Newcastle and prior to that the first three years of his career at Arsenal. Even at a conservative estimated average wage of £50k p/w his gross earnings over his career would be something in the region of £25m. He's not come here for the money, he's come to play football.
