We’ve needed this guy from the moment he left really. I get why they’ve been reluctant to do it but I think a huge lesson atm is not everything and everybody can be part of the bloody “project”. You have to have a competitive team on the field that can hold its own in the division.
results dont matter though clive thats what we have been basically told . its purely us becoming a budget version of Aldi buy cheap you dont know what ur buying but it may turn out to be the best thing you have ever bought , but you could also buy it and use it once go thats crap and stick it in the back of the cupboard never t be seen again .
I do wonder why Portsmouth didn’t sign him knowing he would be a free agent . Wages perhaps ? On the flip side , we were told that the main reason we signed Varane was because he has the closest ‘stats’ to Hayden in the whole of Europe !!
Thank goodness for that signing. Impressed when with us previously. Gets about the pitch. Puts in a tackle.. Very physical, 6ft 2in,. Loud on the pitch. Experienced but still only 30 so lots left in his tank,
I'm not disagreeing with any of this, but perceptions are funny. According to many on here, Anderson's 'legs were gone' at 30

He’s been hugely missed
Maybe he wouldn't have been able to compete with Dozell.
No doubt he will improve our squad but is another defensive midfielder what we need - he's not the link man between defence and attack our style of play is crying out for.

Players who can link defence to attack are hard to find even at the very top level.
The England team still lacks that so what chance do we have of finding that type of player?

Not sure if you've watched the interview he said he had offers but there was only one Championship team he was going to sign for and that he found it difficult playing against us for Portsmouth last year, something that the Portsmouth fans have picked up on and are a little bit miffed.....
We have got to be able to play out from the back sometimes. Need to go long sometimes too, but can't do that all the time even if we had lots of giants up front, which of course we don't.

Always take anything they say publicly with a pinch of salt. If he'd signed for Pompey he would've said something equally complimentary about their team

Yeah I know this sounds cynical, but a clearly fairly bright guy like Hayden also probably knows what we need to hear right now about .e.g. leadership, mentoring young talent etc

This is a great point, Oslo.
For too long now, we can only break even on our own kickouts by going 'long' to our right-back.
We can't go long to our forwards. We can't go short to our backs or midfielders as they lose the ball.
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Yeah, I'd say that is a cynical post. Did you watch his interview? for me what he says is genuine.
You call it cynical, that's your prerogative. But I'm sure you'll see Bartons, Boswankers etc who said nice things about the Club when signing on the dotted line
Fair enough to be cynical about what footballers say in official interviews, he's hardly about to pop up and say well the club's crap and obviously going down but they offered me more than anyone else, but the bloke was very publicly lobbying for a return here last season (when it had no financial impact on him at all) and has kept in touch with players from his time on loan. Being in London can't hurt for someone who was in the Arsenal youth set-up, too. Does he just love QPR that much that he couldn't bear going anywhere else? Probably not, but I can absolutely believe that if he thought there was an offer available from us he was going to see if he could get it rather than rushing to the first club that rang up his agent.
He was committed and interested on loan last time, and god knows we need more heft in the middle. He seems to have a realistic idea of where he is in his career, a desire to play, but also a consciousness that he's partly here to help the younger lads coming through. He's not the most dynamic passer but I remember him as being decent on the ball too - better than Field in that role in front of the defence, and that frees up everyone further forwards.

But they clearly were.
I don’t get your point though. Some players can go on for years at a superb level such as Giggs at the top or Bannon at our shite. Others simply look shot and can’t get to the level of physical effort the Championship demands and/or can’t read the game to make up for that physical drop
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I keep seeing this whole results don't matter. Where exactly had this been said or suggested? I would have thought that results do matter. Good results been players playing well, and therefore attract potential buyers. If we aren't winning, means we are playing crap and that helps no one.
Played full 90 mins for Jamaica in a 3-0 win. So, plus point is he’s ready to play. Unfortunately he has a game mid week too, so chances of him travelling back and being ready to start vs Wrexham are small I’d say. Think him and Varane or him and Field would have been ideal in that game.

Great result for JA and good news re: Hayden but as you haven’t named the opposition I’m wondering was it against St Kitts & Nevis reserves?
STOP PRESS: A 4-0 win away at Nahki Wells’s Bermuda. Not sure how many places North & Central America have been allocated but with USA & Canada qualifying automatically it must give Jamaica a great chance to join the party.

Three direct qualifying spots and two inter-continental play off spots.
I don’t think Group B in the CONCACAF Qualifiers is getting enough respect or coverage. The teams are Jamaica, Curaçao, Trinidad & Tobago, and Bermuda. The managers are all giants of the game: Schteve McLaren, Dick Advocaat, Dwight Yorke, & Michael Findlay - a man who once shared a flat with David Moyes when he was a triallist for Partick Thistle.
