Hayden has been available all summer and his signing doesn't fit the model. Talks may have been held to test the waters but, make no mistake, they've pulled the trigger in reaction to Saturday shit-show.

I think it's probably more likely that this deal, and the Saito deal, were already lined up, but awaiting Eze's deal to go through before they have them the green light.
Agree Ted. But it asking a lot of the guy to suddenly turn this shit show around on his own. Good luck Hayden.
One man CAN make a difference. Not in the sense that he does it all himself, but, in the way that he helps others play. We have four days to get him fit
Any intel (or, ok, baseless rumours, whatever) on what his wages are? Wasn't there a lot of chat about this been an issue before he became a free agent?
Good news. If the left sided defender arrives and both are fit, then maybe players can be put in their natural positions.
My heart says that a reaction to Coventry, plus a better balanced team and a win against Charlton. My head says, a better performance and a draw. Hope heart wins over head!
There's nothing negative about this signing, we have got one good footballer on our hands.
I'm delighted.
You’ll always find people that can squeeze some negative angle out of something they’ve been demanding for weeks even when it’s actually given to them.

Not a chance this was all done since 5pm Saturday.
Funny metaphor ('pulled the trigger') for an applauded incoming. So you think they basically tied up the contract, filmed the welcome video, and wrote the news release over a Bank Holiday weekend, do you? You sound like the kind of sad sack who just has to be the sneering cynic in the corner whatever the club does and whenever they do it.

Not sure your last sentence is in any way justified
His last two championship stints were basically both from January and he played 17 for us and 17 for pompey. If we can get 35 games out of him this season we will kick on and secure a decent mid table position - also he’s only 30, younger than I thought
When he said “Last year when I was at Portsmouth, it was quite difficult to play against the guys,” I genuinely thought he meant it tactically then realised it was about camaraderie.
Camaraderie, is that the Italian boy ?
And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles
Brian Moore
I'm probably less of a fan of Hayden than many on here but one thing I do like about him is his interview on the offy. He comes across far better than most others. He's clearly an articulate and intelligent young man and I imagine he will be a great influence within the squad.
I cant see him starting on Saturday. Be on the bench though, i hope.
My Pompey mate, thinks Hayden was ok for them, but he actually thought Dozzell has been more consistent for them than Isaac. Anyhow they have comrade Yang now also, so what do Portsmouth know that we don't.
Some kind of alternative universe perhaps !!!
Hope its a successful season for him.
Eventually if we go to a three, i could see Field, Varane and Hayden with Morgan and Vale as bench options. Sometimes Chair might play back there. Can only see Madsen as a ten or central midfielder if we have injuries...
Watching Fulham vs Utd on Sunday they mixed it up, sometimes they played out from the back and sometimes they went longer and looked to pick up the second ball. Why one or the other?
