Watford Matchday Thread on 01:56 - Aug 30 with 2570 views | jopreston | No question I will get a few pelters for this, but I feel we really need to win this game or the gap starts to open up already. Yes, I know there are still a lot of games to go, but as we saw last time we fell a few points of the top two, it is hard as hell to catch up. That said, I think this year's league will be a lot tighter, but never the less I still think we need 3 points to keep within touching distance. I know they say new signings take a while to bed in, but in reality the likes as Azaz and Fellows should be OK to go right away. Not sure though if Fellows made the deadline. From what little I have seen of Watford, we should have enough to beat them. They do however seem to come out raring to go, so if we have our usual start, we might find ourselves one down early doors. Gonna be very interesting to see the line up. Will the gaffer line up with 4 at the back now or will he wait a game or three and use the International break to get things working on the training ground. I would take any kind of win here. Goes without saying I know, but as I say, if we only draw or worse, we could be already at least 6 - 8 points of the leaders. And as we saw last time with Ipswich and Leicester, the leaders tend to keep on winning and winning, so clawing back 7 or 8 points can take months and gives us no room for dropping future points. Sorry, gotta beat them today!

A must win game in August. I’ve heard it all now.

Indeed. We found it so hard to make up 7 or 8 points early doors last season didn't we. How many times did we rue points dropped in earlier season games, games we know we should have won. [Post edited 30 Aug 7:15]

Absolutely spot on jopreston. Every game carries three points for a win whether it’s played in August or May. It really is time Saints put down a marker that we intend to win this league and some of our so called forwards stepped up to the plate and scored some goals. Watford will finish mid table at best and today we should show them why.

Probably about the best we could have hoped for, yet I am still a bit perplexed why we field midgets when the plan is often seen as getting crosses into the box. Is it again a case of hoping to get to half time nil nil, then let the shackles off, make a couple of changes and steal the points? Perhaps downs on for archer if nil nil at around 60 minutes. Revert to a back four a bit later and on with stewart coming on if still nil nil. Gone 0-2 on this one.

Think the shackles will be off from kick off, I’m going with a Saints 3-1 win.

I think that Flynn Downes was originally listed as playing but has been replaced by Jay Robinson who was listed as a sub. Can only be one of two things. 1) He's unwell or injured 2) He's committed to leaving.

That’s what they said on the radio but that’s what they always say. The Pompey commentator is saying who would you rather have Tom fellows or Josh Murphy and basically Tom is not fit to lace Murphys boots lol

Watford Matchday Thread on 16:37 - Aug 30 with 1060 views | City_boy | Get in 1-2 Saints. Top free kick from manning. At first I thought it was too close to 18 yd box (1 mtre out) but found space to left.
Watford Matchday Thread on 16:39 - Aug 30 with 1035 views | City_boy | S**T - 2-2= Free kick from about 25 yds out. It was towards top right, but disappointing to be beat from that far out. I think there was only 3 in wall (need t see again), So if you dont have a full wall, you must be confident of not getting beat from 25 yds. Very poor [Post edited 30 Aug 16:43]
