Smyth excellent first half, Saito excellent when he came on. But out of players that started and finished it has to be Kone right ? Presence up front, and a cool as a cucumber finish that is so refreshing to see from a QPR striker

4/10 for Dembele and Walsh. 6/10 for Smyth and Saito. 7/10 Kone. All the rest 5/10 I think. Absolutely brutal between Kone and Jones.

What would Saito have to do to get more than a measly 6 from you?
Don’t think the lad put a foot wrong: changed the course of the game and was instrumental in us winning it. 8/9 all day long.

Saito changed the game that's for sure but Kone head and shoulders MOTM and best player on the pitch. A proper striker contributed in build up play, did the defensive work, scored one nearly scored another looks like he can score with his head, a tap in or one on one and the Dummy for Smyth's goal if there was any justice would be classed as an assist that goal just does not happen without that move

Varane MoTM imo, was everywhere, closing space, winning tackles, and covering Madsen,

Kone, one excellent bit of play, won a few headers as was decent as were all the others,

Madsen surprisingly did not pull out of a big 50/50, won a few tackles but.....

Madsen is supposedly our playmaker and does not make play as just doesn't show for the ball,

Carrying Madsen and we lost control of the game after the first quarter,

Need to start out Best XI and a 3 man Midfield of Hadyn, Varane, Field with Chair, Saito & Kone up top.

So, you like Madsen?

Ouch. I thought Kone was mom but no better than a 7/10. It was a poor quality match overall but a good win. Saito was brilliant.

Saito changed the game, but Kone’s all round game was superb. He is a monster. Best number 9 since Austin the first time around. Think he might end up better.

His interview after the game is proper too. We’ve got a live one.

MOTM is a tough one
I’m going to give it to the guvnor of the Defectors for putting Murphy’s on tap

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Thought he was ok/good. That will do for me. But I've read comparisons to Les and sorry, thats just crazy. Early game he was chasing a ball into the area, and their CB just waltzed past him. He has no pace and thats ok because he may well have all the other attributes. Admittedly its the first time I've seem him and Keen to see more.

He seems very slow to me, but makes up for it in finishing ability.

Yep agree, great performance from Kone, reminded me of Ferdinand back in the day, great to see. Really liked seeing two up top and thought Burrell did well too, they could potentially be an excellent partnership.

The subs got us back in the game, Saito the best of them, his post match interview with Smyth is just bloody brilliant.

Thought we did ok in parts but we are our own worst enemy at times.

ND did well on his debut too.

Walsh is still an issue.

Not including the subs, I thought Morrison. Didn't put a foot wrong all game and had a real tussle with Leaburn which he eventually won.

Saito every time. Everything he did was 10/10.
Kone an absolute F**king monster . The arse of Mark Hughes the finish of Harry Kane.

I am loving Kone already. A genuine proper striker who wins aerial duels, bullies defenders and has genuine pace and finishing ability.

Definitely looks like the front man we need in this division.

Wish I could be like David Watts

Yes.

Makes such a difference having a proper centre forward up there.

Start of the second half he absolutely bodied their centre back. Smashed him straight in the chops and knocked him back to the ground. Totally gratuitous. Guy was on the floor pointing at him, and he just laughed. Yeh. Get used to it.

Been a while.

6 is miserable for Saito. He was the best player on the park when he came on, and head and shoulders - figuratively at least - above the rest.

The real deal. An actual living, genuine, proper striker. Playing for QPR.

Yes, and when Burrell came on, we actually had two decent strikers looking dangerous for the first time in years.

I mean, I really like Kone and said on this thread he is my MOM, I think he's going to be great for us, but Ferdinand was fast and great in the air, two things it doesn't appear Kone is exceptional at. I think we should avoid the comparisons to Les, Kone is his own man, with different attributes, at a different level, in a very very diffeent team.

Let's just (hopefully) enjoy Kone for who he is and what he gives us. It's lovely to have a striker at last!

The Centre back did return that back to him a bit - could be some good old school scraps this year! Be quite interesting if we play Kone and Frey upfront together at some point - the defenders will be definitely know they've been in a game!

Really intelligent forward. Everything about him oozes quality.

Might have that mythical 20 goal a season striker?

I know it is very early days but Kone's performance today (and to a lesser extent, Burrell's cameo) highlights the kind of milquetoast, apologetic, mid afternoon-cbeebies type of slop we've been served up for years and told to be grateful. Bravo, sir.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Loved it. Samba Diakite-esque. Has the air of being slightly unhinged (very helpful, see Frey also), but also just gratuitously showing off his enormous thigh. His strength is all in those thighs and that arse. Like Gallen’s body shape but bigger.

Kone MOM? on 21:24 - Aug 30 with 873 viewsEuroRanger

Kone and Burrell could be a real 'thunder and lightning' combo. Kone bullies centre backs for 60 minutes and then Burrell runs at the remaining bloody stumps.

Pulling them on together today felt like a brave (but ultimately very smart) move from Stephan. I actually really liked that - after the obliteration we received last week, I think many managers would've seen us concede and decided that taking a point was a reasonable option. Instead, Stephan decided to go for the win, and brought on attacking options that were giving Charlton fits.

After last week I was nervous that the players and fans might have given up in Stephan already, but he's earned some kudos from me for that today.

Makes me nostalgic for ‘bundling the keeper over the line’. Proper football.
