He reminded me of Jordan Hugill, lots of effort but underwhelming results. Still like him though.

Hugill normally scored his fourth chance per game , had his best season with us when he was here as well i belive

The move didn't happen in the end. Staying with Birminghan, Blues mate not too unhappy about it. Says he offers some much needed physicality and Championship know-how. No point getting rid now without having an equivalent

Not the greatest of players... but what my grandpa would have said "the right sort"

Came nearly straight off a sick bed and played... and that was pneumonia

No matter how limited he was, I hope he does well... a decent lad

Unfortunately that night was also Blackpool away. Agree it was sign of good character though.

Imagine any of the powder puff girls doing that.

Flicking through the channels, just watched Dykes, clean through, do exactly what Dykes does. Absolutely useless.

Poor Lyndon . Love the fella but he couldn’t finish a sentence.,
Money for him , Sincs and Kelman . All good business.

He’s played alright, getting stuck in at both ends of the pitch.
If Scotland hold out for a 0-0 away at Denmark then it’s a very good result and Dykes has played his part.

I kept stats on Austin, Gray and Dykes over a long period when they were all here together, during the season 2021/2022:

Shots on Target:

Austin: 33%
Gray: 58%
Dykes: 59%

Dykes was very good at getting the ball on target, clearly.

Two things let him down:

Shots saved:

Austin: 69%
Dykes: 69%
Gray: 50%

Blocked:

Austin: 25%
Dykes: 24%
Gray: 18%

Minutes per goal, by the way:

Austin: 329
Dykes: 212
Gray: 145

From memory Dykes was more effective than Gray and Austin in both midfield and at the back defending set pieces. He had also not played much as a main striker before he came to us but more as a wide forward.

To qualify my comments . I thought apart from his goal scoring record, which wasn’t great . I thought he gave his all for us and in general was liked here .
I was willing him to stick that chance away but as sure as I was that kone was going to score that one on one against Charlton , I knew he would miss it.

Interesting stats Brian,

It's a shame there's no stat to measure character, integrity or mugging off your club and it's fans,

2 out of those 3 absolutely rode us for fools.

Gray was like playing with ten men for anything other than shooting/scoring. It did hamper us. Like Sainz against us last season did zero defending - really affected their ability to defend as a team.

Anyone else see that classic Dykes moment away to Denmark? A golden opportunity to shoot and score but had to take an extra touch (or two) and the chance had gone.

Wish I could be like David Watts

I thought Lyndon worked ever so hard but if he had a moment to think it all went wrong. Against Denmark he was clean through but had so much time to think that by the time he tried to shoot he'd slowed down so much that not only had all the defence got back, they'd blocked his shot and gone out for a nice dinner. It was painful to watch to be honest, because he puts in a shift, but can only play off instinct most of the time.

I really liked Gray at ours. He wasn't very popular but he played like a proper striker.

Never knowingly right.
