Former player photos 14:30 - Sep 3 with 6445 views | jamesisaburyfan | Hi everyone, Bury fan in peace. My uncle, Brian Williams, played for Rangers in the 70s after signing from Bury. It's his 70th this year and I'm collecting images of him throughout his career with us, you, Swindon, both Bristol teams and Shrewsbury. Is there a Rangers fan, like I know there are Bury fans, who has a vast archive of pictures that might include some of him that I could use? Any help in pointing me in the right direction of someone would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Thanks. I know his time in west London was brief and I've even seen some pretty nasty stuff about his time there in some online articles, but he's a top man and I'm very proud of the career he had. I was at Loftus Road on the last day of 1997/98 by the way. Quite a drive back up the M6 as we stayed up and City went down that day.

QPR FC does not appear to have a publicly listed archivist; however, you can contact the club through their general supporter services email at supporterservices@qpr.co.uk to inquire about accessing club history or historical records. For historical information, they may be able to direct you to relevant departments or resources. How to Contact QPR FC Regarding Historical Enquiries 1. Email: Send an email to the general supporter services email address: supporterservices@qpr.co.uk. 2. Explain Your Query: In your email, clearly explain your interest in the club's history and any specific records or information you are seeking. 3. Be Patient: The club will endeavour to respond to enquiries, so allow time for a reply. It may well be worth approaching this forum on FB as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/indyrs Good luck and lovely project.

Thanks Bosh. Before I started this thread, that was the only image I was able to find. I'll have a look at the FB group too, thanks. I thought there may be someone like my mate Pete who supports Bury; he's not employed by the club but he has thousands and thousands of pictures on his computer.

Former player photos on 15:08 - Sep 3 with 3368 views | TK1 | He played in a poor QPR team on its way to being a terrible QPR team, one that squeezed in one place off the bottom three that season and were relegated to the 2nd Division the following year - so I wouldn't take any abuse personally, they were all getting it big time where we sat. If memory serves - and I was only just 9 - he did play in '77 in the game against champions of England and soon-to-be Europe Liverpool when we won 2-0. Nobody had seen that coming, especially as we'd lost 1-5 at home to Everton the month before. It was a great afternoon and even better Monday at primary school with all the glory-hunter Liverpool fans in my class. Anyway, can't find any images and have long ago lost the programme. But looking on Ebay, you can buy a copy for £1.65 and Brian Williams is there on the back cover team sheet, facing 'Ken' Dalglish, Alan Hansen and Phil Neal on his opposite flank... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235564155498
Former player photos on 15:09 - Sep 3 with 3348 views | Beckenhamhoop | What a fantastic idea to celebrate your Uncles career in this way. A few years ago a relative of m8ne did a surprise ‘This is your life’ (look it up if you’re under 40!) for her husband’s 60th. She got video clips from people all over the world and lots of guests, including a few sporting legends (he was a thing at Kent Cricket Club) all giving anecdotes about his life. He was a very funny, popular chap and it was the best birthday bash I’ve ever been to. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Former player photos on 15:12 - Sep 3 with 3334 views | DannyPaddox | Don’t know if this is any good to you mate but there’s a nice pic of your uncle in the QPR home programme v Liverpool 12/11/77. You can usually find old progs on eBay and specialist footy programme sites. Good luck and regards to Brian.
Former player photos on 15:19 - Sep 3 with 3271 views | MrSheen | Hi James, good luck with your project and best wishes to your uncle. My brother lived round the corner from Gigg Lane in the 90s so I saw a few games there, including maybe Rangers’ last away cup win. It’s great to see the Shakers bouncing back, hopefully you can get stuck into Rochdale and Bolton again soon!

That's quite the top five he's on there. I've written a book about Bury's 1984/85 team in which Leighton James played his solitary season at Bury and I interviewed him for it. He was still as sharp as a tack and remembered everything. His death was upsetting. I also used to drink in the Manchester pub of which Stan Bowles' sister was the landlady. I used to interview former players for the programme and she gave me his number so we could talk about his five whole games for the club. The next time we were at Brentford, I met him in one of the four pubs.

I'm actually doing this for Brian and need the stills for the title cards between each club/selection of former teammate memories. I've got Don Shanks, Peter Eastoe and Phil Parkes from Rangers and from other clubs have got Chris Kamara, Gary Mabbutt and lots more lower league legends. It promises to be great.

In theory a very good team still, but it was disintegrating at an alarming rate and Richardson in particular was a serious downgrade on Phil Parkes. Leighton James was a class act - played a blinder against West Ham in the cup - but he never looked happy at QPR. Dave Needham leaving for Forest at Xmas almost relegated us alone. As for Bowles, even he was getting heavy abuse by then from around us, ironically in the very stand that is now named after him.
Former player photos on 15:48 - Sep 3 with 3002 views | Boston | Did he play in a cup game for Bury against us in 1976? If so, his pic and profile will be in that programme, which I'd look at for ya if I was at home. We won 2-1 ...had to add that for the younger viewers who don't remember there was a time we turned up for cup games.

Maybe the club could record a few words from Gerry Francis about his memories of Brian and that team and forward it on to you? Don’t ask, don’t get!

I'll message Ariel Friedlander who was the club photographer in the 80s. Not sure her archive goes back that far but will check. Good luck with it all - you're doing an excellent thing. Second Dave and Clive's recommendations. Chris Guy especially will be a good reference point.

Yes, it was apparently in the strength of that game that Frank Sibley signed him.

There was a book in the 70's called something like 'a day in the life of a football club ' which might have featured him - I haven't seen it in decades, so I could be wrong. Maybe someone on here has a copy and could check?

Former player photos on 18:03 - Sep 3 with 2313 views | DavieQPR | Played for us in 1977-8 season. Made his debut 20-8. He was no12 and made 10 appearances. Came at a tricky time as Dave Sexton had just left and Frank Sibley was appointed manager. Signed for £70k. Sold for ££50k. Bit of info but no photos.
