Was thinking the same. The substitutions around the 60 minute mark were pre planned with the sports scientists to protect players.

We talked about what changes he could make & other than Frey or Kolli for Burrell (only because he might be knackered!) we couldn't come up with any. Certainly, nobody deserved to go off & they all kept going until the end. |  | | |

A few weeks ago, everyone was raging that the players were unfit. There was talk of confronting the manager at the training ground.
Today we had 10 players play 90 minutes and keep a clean sheet against a form side (many have said we've only beaten rubbish teams before today). There's no midweek game so the players have plenty of time to recover. Can't we just enjoy the result and congratulate the team and manager on a good performance?
Also worth pointing out that the two supposedly ropey teams we beat recently both had very good wins away from home today. Championship is wide open this year. Nobody is going to run away with it. | | | |

Before substitutes were allowed, every team had someone who could play in goal a bit in case the goalie had to go off.

I have often felt, sometimes when previous managers have made five substitutions, on occasions, they have been under the remit of the performance Director, in the case now - Ben Williams, that some players need careful loading, so as not to pick up injuries. Ie the infamous loading....
So the manager, not totally in control, on occasions.
Today, only one change, no cramps and no injuries and we won.

Credit to JS his tactics/subs are working well. Was a bit surprised at the Varane change, thought he was playing really well. Everyone’s fitness levels look much better. My only criticism is not making a sub during extra time to run the clock down as Stoke were starting to build momentum going forward. | |

JS took criticism after Cov and so he should. It was beyond embarrassing.
But the huge majority was aimed at Nourry and the way the club was being run rather than JS.
The nonsense of going to the training ground to protest wasn’t aimed at JS but the CEO and his micro management of everything ad I read it .
If I have this wrong then I’ll hold my hands up .
I will also say that I have to give credit to CN too.
Time will tell, but it seems snd feels like he has taken a step away and let JS just get on with it.
Sometimes that can be harder to do when you have been so entrenched .
But when things are going well it’s easier for all of us to have a clearer view, myself included of course.

Ya, agreed, and I wasn't criticising, just to be clear. It's a hard call - sometimes a substitution in the last few minutes can break momentum, and might even do more harm than good. | |

Apologies. I got the facts wrong about the training ground confrontation which was aimed at CN rather than JS. There were however plenty who made their minds up very quickly about JS. He had a derogatory nickname (Le Shrug) I think even before the Coventry game.
Nice to see that people are coming around to seeing that he might be doing a decent job and that a lot of the recruitment has actually been pretty good. Things can turn very quickly though so I'll just try and enjoy it while we're doing well. | | | |

I thought this led to a couple of rushed clearances that nearly cost as did their open goal miss as Dunne needed cover on his side,
Sometimes it's better to be lucky than right,
JS seems to have rode his luck in the last few games with his lack off or counter intuitive substitutions hopefully his run continues. | | | |

I read his "lack of or counter intuitice substitutions" as that you personally disagreed with them, rather than that they were wrong!
Apart from perhaps replacing Burrell (due to possibibly being knackered) by Frey or Kolli, what would you have changed? Bring Field on to shore us up at the removal of Madsen or Vale? This would have completely changed our shape & invited Stoke to spend the end of the game camped in our half/penalty area. You certainly couldn't replace any of the defenders, Saito or Kone.
Yesterday was a very rare day when I thought it was correct to only have the one change & I'm not sure that we wouldn't have been better off making none! | | | |
