What a great day, 15:29 - Sep 20 with 4798 viewswelwynranger

WEVE GOT A TEAM.
Today was the first time in years that I felt we had a cohesive unit that wanted to play for the manager, each other and the fans..

If there is a weak link I'm sorry to say its Jimmy Dunne
short of pace and caught out of position many times

But Saito Kone and Burrell are a formidable strike force that will terrorise this league.
I am so happy and proud to be an Rs fan today after years of dross.

Vale is the real article the transition from midfield to attack is what we have been missing for season after season.
So glad he scored his performance deserved it .

What a quality finish .
I thought Stoke had a lot of possession but we defended so well asa unit. A few scares near the end

I haven't stopped smiling yet.

I've had so many miserable train journeys home over the years
That makes today even more special

It was such a strong performance all round. Stoke only had one shot on goal, which is good becasue Nardi looked very dicey.

Agree with all of that. Stoke's possession was all across there back four and deepest midfielder. Possession is ok if its effective and in the right areas.
The Dunne issue is hopefully temporary. Maybe in Jan if its still an issue we look at a specialized right back.

I was surprised that they attacked down the right so much where RND was excellent at left back. When they eventually went to the other side Sorba Thomas had the better of Dunne every time.

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

Thomas gave him a roasting first half and when they switched him I thought Dunne got better . Not his finest hour but he did Marshall the troops well.
Fine team in the making and so young as well .

To think we thought Saito was a bit unnecessary 🤔

Albeit with some trepidation, I said to my mate in the pub before the game its so nice turning up at HQ for the first time in literally years thinking we've actually got a chance of a win, actually having something called strikers etc. Anyway for once I was right, great day, great performance, GREAT atmosphere. Slight negative for me no subs towards the end, for me its in game management 101, just waste some time! If the ball is still in play the opposition always has a chance. Got away with it today of course but it was pretty tense in G block.

Don't agree about dunne, felt he was being left a bit exposed with a lack of cover on that side. But agree otherwise, really pleased overall

We I didn’t think Saito was unnecessary even for £2.5M and I got a lot of stick on here for saying so.

But I’m hoping those posters are fully eating their words now.

From the moment he’s come into our team he’s changed everything. Utterly undropable and at this level he is a game changing player, as he’s proving every game now.

We’ve got a team.
We’ve also got a squad.
And on top of that, we’ve also got some more to spare

The bench looks strong
Clark salter, chair and Poku aren’t even involved yet

And the ages of the talent means they’ve got time to get better and better

Very optimistic!!

A very enjoyable day from start to finish. Though that was the best atmosphere at a 12.30 ko for a long time, rocking from the get go.

The first time this season I felt we've looked properly secure defensively. Thought we always looked more dangerous than Stoke going forward; how many times have we been able to say that in the last 10 years. And we've won a game that we deserved to, against good opposition. I don't think there's going to be many Championship teams with a better combo than Kone and Burrell. And I think Vale is going to be immense for us. Calm, assured, always seems to have time on the ball, picks the right option when he releases it. I think he's Prem material.

There it is again. Hope. Optimism. Enjoying it while it's around.

You should talk about that more, Westy.

You hardly ever mention it.

What is the issue with Dunne?? He was playing against their best player and whilst he did get beaten a couple of times he kept him reasonably quiet. He cannot stop him every time.

There were individual errors that were nearly costly, Varane, Morrison, Burrell s missed opportunity. But yeah the all round team performance was superb, very promising against tough opposition with some experienced, gnarly players in it. Even more impressive considering how young our side is - someone on another thread said the average age was 23 today.

Dunne was up against one of the best wingers in the league to be fair. Thomas is excellent at this level.

I said Thomas had given Jimmy Dunne a roasting in the first half . Apologies, that was slightly over the top . Thomas did have the beating of him though but as with a lot of wingers with pace . The end product wasn’t great .
I love Jimmy to bits and he’s going to be a great leader.
He’s set a high bar and he’ll have far better days.
Just my opinion.

Agree with all of the above and add to that we have a bat shit crazy manager who breaks all the rules - and it’s working! Once upon a time we couldn’t go out unless we had three centre backs. Marti proved if you occasionally pass the ball to each other you can get away with two. But two holding midfielders and one up top seemed a non negotiable.
Our new man is consistently playing Madsen in a two, plus two up top! A goal up with 15/10/5 minutes to go and surely he’ll take off a striker and bring on some stodge. Nope, just waxes lyrical after the game about not bringing on Dembele!
I can’t remember ever having a manager like this at Loftus Road?! And right now I’m loving it.

If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. PG Wodehouse

I really like that approach, that you act in the moment on the basis of what is actually happening in front of you rather than what you thought was going to happen. How many times have we seen this in the past, when subs have upset the momentum of a team in control and heading for a win.

Agree that Nardi still seems a bit nervy at present.
Said to my son as we were leaving - imagine having their keeper behind this team - I thought he was their best player.

I love that when we need to change a game, he brings on attacking players (who wants a point?) and when we want to hold on to a game, he tries to bring on attacking players to defend from the front 😂

Could be a season of "you might score 4, but we'll score one more" football - just the right amount of bonkers for a QPR manager!

There does seem to be a reasonable sprinkling of bat sh1t crazy about us at the moment. Mbengue and his after match celebrations, Kone whipping up the fans. It is very QPR.

Dunne cemented his place at right back when Cifuentes used his as an aerial outlet higher up the pitch which he was very effective at. We were so bad at that point that he was pretty much our only option to get higher up the pitch.
We don’t play like that now and so JD tends to play more as a conventional right back which isn’t really his game. He’s not very mobile and it was obvious before the game started that he’d struggle against Thomas. As someone else mentioned I think he’s probably a bit of a weak link now you consider how able we are across the rest of the pitch. I’m surprised Stoke didn’t target him more, especially after Manhoef’s back post header (how did he miss?!?)

If he wasn’t the Captain I’m sure Morgan would have been subbed on at some stage yesterday.
