It looked similar to the Varane tackle at Blackburn that was an obvious red card. But, it depends what view the ref had of it. If the ref thought he got the ball and caught Pearson on the follow through, then you can understand the decision to give a drop ball.
Pearson was, clearly, angry about it and sufficiently injured to be taken off at HT
Even so, that doesn't excuse the rolling around nor the gratuitous violence towards Burrell.

Noticed that too. Don’t think he warmed up once. Whereas the rest of them were out warming up most of the second half.

On the tackle, it was Ben Pearson, so the laws of the game allow it. Play on.

He did 2 jogs up and down, the first one with an old pair of track suit bottoms on looking so unready to play a game of football it was ridiculous.
I feel the 2 jogs were just token gestures rather than genuine warm ups .

Looked like he could barely run so it all seemed a bit strange

Haven’t seen the tackle on a replay but at the game it certainly looked like both players got to the ball at the same time . The still pic looks awful for sure . It’s probably just momentum but refs are sending people off for physics these days .

Talking of refs, how bad was that guy yesterday?

He micro managed that game to within an inch of its life ?
He was in danger of ruining a good game of football .

Despite the poor refereeing and Stoke's spoiling tactics we still managed seven shots on target, which in the circumstances is outstanding.

With that attack creating chances up top and Mbengue taking no prisoners at the back, it's not going to be a boring season

I mean, it was a pretty nailed on red card I thought at the time, and even more so having seen the replay.

Doesn't matter if you get the ball and follow through like he did, completely off the ground and planting studs on the guy.

But, Ben Pearson?
Drop ball and gate.

Pearson then gets so wound up he immediately gives away a yellow. Good stuff.

Ref was a lottery. Very inconsistent I thought.

Good bit where Kone committed some violence against some guy, the ref saw it and waved play on, then a few seconds later they lost the ball and Kone seemingly doesn't even get a talking to. Enjoyed it.

I believe JCS won't be ready until the new year, but I might be wrong. In any case, Mbengue's likely to get his 5th yellow in the next few weeks. I love the lad, but he is going to be a liability in this respect.

That is very dissapointing news if accurate I thought JCS was back on grass ready to step in .
We all know he is an excellent player when fit and starting but overall he has been a poor signing strictly going on his apperances for us .
But there is a bright side for the first time in years we can finally outscore our mistakes with this group of players if they stay fit of course

I haven’t seen it from the SB camera angle and I didn’t get a great view from SAR but that still photo looks pretty damning.

Red all day in the modern game.

As the ref only gave a drop ball is he going to say he didn’t see it, which would mean a retrospective ban is a possibility?

In which case that would be 3 games.

According to their Forum we should have had 9 players left on the pitch and we are a dirty side that roughed their poor players up. Meanwhile their players didn't commit one foul and it was all the ref. They seem to forget it was Stoke and Pullis that invented the players alternating the fouls. They have had a reputation as a dirty side for years but just laughed.

Unusually, for a defeated manager's post match presser, Robins didn't even mention it.

I can’t tell from this thread whether Mbengue is going to be a cult hero or a scapegoat.

🤣

What! Can’t you see the middle ground is weak!!!!! 👍

A scape hero?

Cult hero for me, Reading's player of the season last year....strong, quick and can play a bit as well. Lovely ball to Kone to set up the Burrell chance, which was well saved by the keeper.

Will be walking the yellow card tightrope all season, but overall I don't think it will be at Colback levels. He will miss some games, but hopefully through yellows rather than red's.

Edwards in during January transfer window, Mbengue switched to RB.

He absolutely f'king terrifies me!

Lucky not to have been sent off twice already this season. Red card waiting to happen, and will cost us goals(penalties) and points with his "over enthusiasm" imo.

It's a contact sport.

Mbengue over runs the ball, stretches,Pearson attacks the ball with the intention of either slamming the ball out of play or smashing the player or both.
Pearsons’ intensity means he reaches ball first and it then looks late from our lad.
It’s football, it’s a tackle, looks tad late and a simple yellow.
No idea why ref decided no foul but he was closer, clearly saw the incident and saw no foul.
As law says, .. in the opinion of the referee….
Decides to stop game due to bitch screaming in pain (wear sensible shin pads you don’t get that pain) therefore uncontested drop ball.
