Genuine question, has Damion Downes ever actually been a professional footballer? 22:03 - Sep 23 with 1682 views | saintmark1976 | Honestly, what exactly did he do after coming on this evening ? No enthusiasm, half paced, didn’t tackle and couldn’t head or hold a ball up. All our other players can see he is utterly useless and didn’t even want to lose possession by attempting to pass to him. Like playing with ten men. Another crackerjack waste of £7 million by Sports Republic’s so called recruitment team.

Genuine question, has Damion Downes ever actually been a professional footballer? on 22:08 - Sep 23 with 1624 views | Southamptonfan | He's terrible isn't he. He can't control it, can't pass it and just strolls around. On a positive, I thought the other players today were much livelier, much more forward play. But how many of these players will get changed again Saturday? Bazunu, Stephens, Harwood-Bellis, Mads etc will all be back. [Post edited 24 Sep 13:55]

That just cannot happen If still reverts to the team that got smashed on Saturday as opposed to that lot who stepped up tonight then it’s clear he is as clueless as Wussell or has no balls or both
Genuine question, has Damion Downes ever actually been a professional footballer? on 22:13 - Sep 23 with 1579 views | Flamingbankers | He had a shocking touch; Mr Legoman trying to trap the ball. So how did SR not recruit a proper goal-scorer and a proper goal keeper in the summer? For a supposedly professional outfit that's criminal negligence. For a mistake that huge the morons should have sacked themselves.

Genuine question, has Damion Downes ever actually been a professional footballer? on 22:13 - Sep 23 with 1576 views | City_boy | I honestly believe Damion Downes is probably the worst striker to put a Saints shirt on, and I include Ali Dia in that. How he is still getting so much game time is also a mystery.
Genuine question, has Damion Downes ever actually been a professional footballer? on 22:17 - Sep 23 with 1544 views | Flamingbankers | Thought Woods had a good game as well as the other centre-backs. Apart from that it was pretty much our standard stuff. I just can't see us us getting into the play-offs; we're just not good enough. I really think we were duped again with this manager.

I thought the new recuits did well & the combi of Edwards + Woods + Quarshie looked comfortable & solid. I liked the look of Jelert at r/b lots of energy. I'd keep the a lot of them in for the Boro game. [Post edited 23 Sep 22:34]

Genuine question, has Damion Downes ever actually been a professional footballer? on 22:28 - Sep 23 with 1473 views | Saints76ER | So frustrated watching D Downs - he just cannot control a football, weight of lay offs was awful. I cannot see how on earth SR thought he was worth buying, let alone for £6.5m. He offers nothing. WS please don’t have him on the bench at weekend, he isn’t a striker nor a winger.

The ITV commentary mentioned the card due to his frustration but didn't realise it was about his own team mate!

They want that sell on money in the future remember. He should never be seen again in a Saints shirt. But he will be. They want their 7 million back!

Agreed, Downs makes Mara look like prime Drogba whereas Downs himself is about as much use as a Dog bra. In answer to the original question, I think it was a proactive substitution, so when the Liverpool player got sent off it meant we were effectively playing 10-a-side for the remainder of the game. Might as well have been for the use the waste of space Downs was for our cause.

Compare him with A. Armstrong who puts on the afterburners for every ball. Hes a waste of space, Put him on the bench for the rest of the season, unless we're winning 4 -0.

No it wasn’t. It was because he thought it was our throw. Strange about Downes. Poch plays him in the USA national team.

Yeah, where he's contributed zero goals & zero assists in 6 games. Poch doesn't play him as a out-and-out striker. He plays him as a 10, a supporting striker.

If I was being ultra generous I'd say he hasn't been given the chance to play in a position he's decent at (he's utter sh1te as a centre forward). But in reality I'd say he just looks as though he has nothing to offer. WS doesn't play with a second striker and even if he did Arma and Archer would be better options. Our best hope is that we can get maybe £1m for him in January. Some at the club might want to loan him out somewhere to toughen him up but I think if he was sent out to a League 1 club he wouldn't get many minutes. Better to send him back to a less competitive league. A prime example of how SR are clueless and ruining the club.
