M40 pile up Witnail and I edition - Qpr vs Oxford Match Thread 20:10 - Sep 29 with 22214 views | Spaceman_P | Although dismayed at myself for the draw on Saturday I blame the fact I wore the pink shirt. True to forum rules a loss means adios. So I've stretched a bit and ran it off. QPR 2 Oxford 1 Kone and Saito.

He looked like he had the right Donald from kick off and played with a right moody boat on most of the game. I get he might much prefer that absolute ball of energy in Burrell with him, but sometimes you just gotta roll with it. He’s a great player, no doubting that, he’s just not lit my fire totally yet. For the others I thought Hayden was totally pedestrian and Dembele continues to reinforce my opinion of him with every game he plays. Mbengue has to be my bet going forward as he is a stick on for a booking every game he’s not suspended. Frustrating evening but five undefeated

It's a bit of a habit. 2. Six of the top ten sides have drawn their last two games, including us. 3. We are unbeaten now in 5 games... And another clean sheet... Dreamland from where we have been at this stage in recent seasons...

I think Vale would have done a better job playing centrally and starting Smyth wide. Field didn’t do himself any favour tonight IMHO. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Rather than 'utilising the squad', call me old-fashioned again, but I'd rather the manager instead picked a positive team to win a game. Clearly, that was beyond him tonight.

Not for me. That was a starting 11 that was always going to struggle to break down the opposition.

The changes were needed, but those in reserve were shocking. I've given up on Dembele. So disinterested in defending they had to move him over to the other wing after 20 minutes. Frey looks like he is running in glue and his touch was shocking. And Sam Field is finished as a starter. Painful to watch someone so ill suited to playing in this team. Not one of them put a case forward to start in the future, which is a concern as we don't have a lot of depth.

I think it was a baffling team selection, but considering the subs were on for 30 mins and we didn't trouble the keeper once, I don't agree that we would definitely have won with those starting.

Nobody has said we would definitely have won. We were pressed to death first half and we had no pace or creativity to beat it.

Poor team selection from the off and poor to not rectify it at half time. Pretty much a half hour game once the right players were on to win it but never really looked like it was going to happen. Hopefully we have learnt that playing both Field/Hayden and Frey/Kone is a non starter. Norrington Davies my man of the match which says it all about what a piss poor attacking force we were all game.

I did think Field did a lot better than Hayden who had poor 1st touches repeatedly and lost us the ball.

Really expected the backups to do better out there today though. Oh well, as others have said, 5 in a row with a loss and near the top with 12 points. It could be a lot worse for sure. Besides, if we continue drawing every match we will be clear with 52 pts

Have to agree with this. The commentator at the Sheffield game made a point about us having the worst record of results in 3 game weeks in the Championship. There is no doubt in my mind the manager is aware of this and made changes tonight as Oxford the weakest opponent of the week. As a result we got a feeble footie game that would have Sky viewers cancelling their subscriptions. Messrs Warnock and Mackie were bored by our showing. Neither could understand why we made 5 changes when you can bring on 5 subs during the game. Like many of us, they believe we should play our strongest team in home games and go all out to win them and not worry about the next away game. We forfeited a winnable game tonight to save players for Bristol. Warnock was rather critical of the manager then commenting that Bristol have an extra day to prepare which sounds like he is getting excuses in early if we don't win. He reckons comments like that should be kept between the coaching staff and not aired on tv for the players to hear as it's defeatist. I think he has a point and as the last manager to bring us any success his views carry some weight.

Somehow we actually got worse after the subs which is baffling and suits no one’s narrative but it’s true. Personally I thought the entire issue was personnel but tactics. All game our wingers were inverted and narrow when we were crying out for width ad delivery from wide areas. It felt like we were deliberately asking for our FBs to provide the width. Odd. Even the subs went and played inside. As I said, we got worse after the subs. The issue was the tactics. Like Stephan, but tonight was on him. That’s okay. He’s allowed off days. Just annoying.
