Constructive Feedback For The SCFC Coaches & Management 11:27 - Oct 23 with 1216 viewsstreetlyjack

I put the last few performances and general lack of action/urgency/goal threat down to the international break and disruption it causes. The sending off had a big effect granted but after watching the game last night I am growing increasingly concerned we are reverting for whatever reason back to the stale, boring sideways walking paced football that we witnessed under Cooper, Martin and Williams (this was evident before the sending off) - How has this happened again?

Not sure if this has something to do with players wanting 'good stats' or if the coaches are completely oblivious to the fact that we have to play forward to win games? 53% possession and 451 completed passes last night, I would bet that 80% of these were sideways or backwards FFS. We are so easy to play against and counter its become embarrasing, each team we play now keeps 3 up top to press us constantly and squeeze us back resulting in a hoof from Vig, despite this we still play the same passes back and forth which is so predictable its untrue, not to mention very easy to set up against.

Struggling for the life of me to understand where this is going at the moment, so much to address from the management team it would take me months to highlight how easy we are to play against currently.

FAO - Coaches & Management Team
- You are allowed to pass through the centre of the pitch.
- Forward passes are actually still allowed, as is taking on your man
- We can press oppositions back line too....even in their own half
- A press generally involves 3 players (not 1) working together to win the ball back
- There is no time limit on how long you can spend in the oppositions half
- You are allowed to take a shot at goal more than twice a match
- Players can use their pace to go FORWARD as well as backwards
- We dont need to start every move with 8 passes between our centre halves (hate to tell you but other teams have spotted this too)
- Its generally considered more effective to try to make a tackle outside of your own box rather than back off and let the attacker into your box (google 'how to win a penalty' for further info).
- Waiting for 11 opposition players to get behind the ball before launching an attack does in fact make it harder to score.
- If plan A doesnt work then you can move to plan B, this can be done at any point in the game not just after 85 minutes.
- There are no time restrictions on substitutions, these can actually be used from minute 1 onwards if things arent going to plan.

This type of football in the championship doesnt work (check the stats for the last 6 seasons), please for the love of god get a grip on implementing some tactics and shape into this team that actually encourages people to turn up and watch.

This is not rocket science, we dont give a toss about possession stats....all we want is to see is our team competing and actually trying to win a match especially at home.

Must do better than this 100%

And the goalkeeper is allowed to come out for crosses, rather than watch the opposition have yet another free header from the 6-yard box. Brilliant summary that 14,000 people could see last night, but none of the coaches could.

Get inoussa the ball earlier so he is one on one with a full back and we have a massive weapon there which we simply aren’t using.

Instead we only seem to give him the ball when there’s no space and he’s doubled up on and the entire opposition defence is set and ready.

Tymon remains our only real offensive threat with his top class crossing but we don’t get anywhere near enough bodies in the box and don’t attack any of them with any real conviction. McBurnie would be gobbling up the goals with these crosses. I’d even be tempted to play Idah more as a right sided winger/striker, he’s getting short shrift from these big experienced centre halves that are dime a dozen in this league but he’d have a massive physical advantage over most full backs at the far post.

We are playing Stamenic as a base of midfield sitter which is fine but then our other two midfielders especially Franco are playing a weird sort of wide role far too close to the wingers which limits their space and gives us no options in the middle. It was no coincidence that we seemed to have more space and options on the ball after the red card last night. Our shape looked a lot better and Galbraith was allowed to to his thing.

It’s so annoying as a fan sitting in the stand seeing things that professional coaches on big money can’t seem to see or are unwilling to change because of some dogmatic footballing ideology.

Poll: We all dream of a managerial team of Alan Tates?

Great original post. The same type of feedback applied equally to Martin & Williams. The fans have have got here quicker this time. I’m afraid the performances when Sheehan was caretaker have proven to be a false horizon. Tick tock - it’s just a matter of time now, it will take a significant change in approach to turn this around

The question now is why are the team playing a similar style when we bring in a new manager to alter that style? The players have in the main changed as well so what is happening? Could it be our policy to recruit up and coming managers who prefer to play more conservatively so as not to be seen as the wrong choice should their bravery not pay off.

It's time for an experienced manager who doesn't care what people think because they are confident in their ability to get results. Yes it will cost but surely its cheaper than continually paying people off.

Correct WR. We've tried inexperienced ones for the last 5/6 years and look where we are. Nowhere.

Time to change the approach.

Another thing we need to be mindful of in my opinion is the streetwise nature of the championship . The use of the dark arts is prevalent in this division . Multiple fouls scenario - here teams single out one "star" man and their outfield players each have a go at leaving something on him . It looks innocuous but the cumulative affect is our "star" man is getting slowly kicked out of the game or slowed down considerably . Cards are not brandished because the ref takes each one as an isolated incident but together they all add up. example Blues v Galbraith /Innouasa earlier on in the season.
The get your retribution in Early scenario- This one involves the late or hard " mistimed" tackle on an opponent usually a useful attacker and the apology " Sorry mate /ref Iam not quite up to speed with the pace of the game as it's only 5 mins.gone no intention meant followed by "smile" and arm round the shoulder. Example - Dunne on Tymon Swans v Qpr,
The goalkeeper's got a knock scenario - keeper goes down and sits there while the medics race on . Usually when the opponents are in possession in a promising situation. Clever because the ref in effect has to stop the game immediately . Keepers can't leave the field unless being replaced so ensuring the team still keeps 11 players on the field and not on the sidelines for 30 secs. Result promising possession broken up and attack stopped while keeper receives attention and coach can get urgent instructions and water to his team because of the break .

The feigned injury scenario . An attacker is vociferously accused of falling over /diving after a tackle to gain a penalty or a free kick outside the box. Attacker complains and defender remonstrates with his arms and is then reacted to by the attacker who nudges his head towards the defender - result defender falls to the floor as if he's been shot rolling around for more effect . Result - instigator receives only a yellow while the attacker gets sent off and his team down to 10 men. This one is usually used on young / hot headed / previous history of flare ups type players to get a reaction from them that then gets them sent off .
Most useful when used early on in games so that opposition have to play longer with 10 men . Example - recent game at the LIberty.
No doubt the feigned head injury has been used too , to break up play and the rhythm of opponents. This is much harder to spot with a clash of heads and stopping the game obviously has to be instantaneous . What is more debatable is the fingers in the face scenario causing a player to pull up suddenly as if poleaxed . Again , slightest contact is used to break up the play .

Actually he’s not managing anyone at the moment. Who better to redefine our mid mild into a lethal attacking unit. I bet he’d love to work with the likes of Galbraith, Yalcouye , Inoussa and Widdell and would guide our players out of form like Franco and Stamenic. With Huw no longer here and a board who would back him who knows - a point to prove maybe. Unfinished business?

Yeah I know I’m hoping for the impossible but what a season we’d have eh?

Sheehan worked with Nathan Jones at Luton and Southampton, now I’m not suggesting for a moment we should play that type of of football ,definitely not but Sheehan has got us struggling and Jones’s new team Charlton just beat Ipswich on their own patch 0-3
Charlton don’t have O’Dea mind šŸ™„
