After McCarthy assigned such profundity to your musings, I can only say the conclusion is somewhat disappointing.

Meant to say I was sitting next to the Oxford City scout the other night at the game. He was there because we trusted them with Putnam ( right back) who apparently was a revelation for them in National League North? Tough gig as meant going to South Shields and other such towns up Notrth for games with no hotels etc. Chose him as his character matched his ability. All the naysayers are going to absolutely hate this but he said it is known about the new direction Rangers are going with youth development and our reputation has improved massively and then pointed out 3 other scouts from lower leagues. He then said that Wednesday was a waste of time in that we played so many on the cusp of the 1st team so not the pool they can afford. Obviously he thought Putnam the best player on the pitch but really positive about all the others and agreed Dillon made a difference. Was really trying to see what he was typing on his laptop, can confirm he wasn’t playing Fortnite. Before I get slammed I know it’s Oxford City but still a third party view.

Little bit more from Eastleigh here about our new defender. Picking up quite a few players from non-league recently.

Thanks Aston, sounds like a positive step - do you know if we are still signing the kid from Aberdeen/Scotland(CB)? As many have said with the signings of the likes of Dillon and others for the Development teams its boding well, if we can get them on decent loans and progress them through to the first team squad, also makes that side very competitive with hopefully people pushing for first team both from the younger categories and from within the development side.

I know that 4 of the side that beat Burnley have had some First team action this year. FYI Morgan, Bennie, Kolli and Sutton.
How many of the others can go on to have an EFL career? If not with QPR, then slightly lower in the pyramid.

Had forgotten about him, but sure I remember reading that it was being pushed down the line to be completed in the summer, same with the other young Aussie coming in

Just one minor thing to keep in mind. Spartak Hounslow usually play their U21 games in Slough. I’m sure they’ll make an effort for the Final and play it at the Lionel Road Thunderome but just putting it out there. There’s always the option of a neutral venue like Wormwood Scrubs or Shepherds Bush Green.

Andy Brat's post is an interesting one. Does our club finally have a good reputation for youth development? I hope so of course but I said 'finally' because it's something the club has been talking about for a long time. So it's not a new direction but one that's taken a long time to come about.

Nonetheless, it is encouraging as we can see a higher level of ability in our youngsters coming through and, just as importantly, in those we're able to attract and sign from elsewhere.

The next stage will be whether we can make significant money from selling them, because that's what this is fundamentally about. Eze cannot be a one off. We need an Eze sale or equivalent every season. Hopefully we'll enjoy games a bit more too.

If you consider that we only really started reinvesting in the youth system 7/8 years ago I think we are doing really well and probably ahead of the curve.
The one bright spark this horror season has been 18 year olds Morgan, Kolli, Bennie and Sutton getting 1st team game time.

When was the last time we had four 18 year old breaking into the 1st team? Yes, I know there were caveats such as injury and loss of form, but these guys stood in and we were not relegated.
It's a bit doom and gloom on here but these youngsters coming through is a huge change for the club so I'm surprised people are not more exited. Next season the Brazilian lad and Tuck could be the next ones, maybe Dillon and Putman later.

Excuse my ignorance but how does player selection work with this competition? Is it purely age related irrespective of whether they have played senior football or not?

Each Invited Club must ensure that in each Match:
7.8.1 at least six of the starting eleven players named on the Team Sheet are players who
were aged under 21 as at the 30th June in the year in which the Season concerned
commenced; and
7.8.2 no more than two players who:
(a) are aged 21 or over; and
(b) have made 40 or more appearances in a First Team Fixture (either in the
starting elven or as a playing substitute)
in each case as at the 30th June in the year in which the Season concerned, shall be
named on the Team Sheet.

Thank you. I wouldn't like to be the person who has to check all those criteria when the team sheets are handed in.

This thread has been a very enjoyable read - we need those atm !!!

Was impressed by the solidity of the performance and a well deserved scoreline and victory

Both Full Backs shone bright, more so with their attacking play for me.

Alfie Tuck I found a very solid performance and presence.

Cian Dillon was excellent in the second half also.

Bennie was strong without creating much and I think Morgan showed why he got a long run for the first team this season.

Kolli for me was poor, given his experience above others. He hasn't had completely the season i expected he could have this season but like most of our squad, injuries will have had some effect.

Think we are using the development squad well. Ie Many players are getting experience and those from younger age groups are getting opportunities also

The league results have not been great but we play far from our best squad, most games ie the structure seems more about as many as possible getting competitive minutes. Winning is irrelevant.

But in this cup game, clearly this wasn't the case.

One other thought I had, regards the developmental squad.

Would you rather be in a Burnley squad, a yo yo team or a team such as ours.

I would have thought to get first team experience earlier for a Premier league team or promotion chasing team, you would plump for the mid to lower championship team ie more chance of getting those first team minutes. A backhanded advantage perhaps !!!!

Let's hope our boys perform in the final

The class of 25 a la the class of 92 !!@@@!

I know - stupid !!!!@ I will have a lie down....
