I looked at the threads (admittedly without my glasses) and couldn't see one. If there is I shall withdraw gracefully. If not then 1-1 Frey

Well that was S H I T E......

Bizarre team selection once again, it's like Marti just doesn't get it at times and can't see what's glaringly obvious.....sigh.....

No doubt in the post match presser he will say he's disappointed and so are the team as they 'really' wanted to win the game, but don't worry next time they will 'really' try hard....

That's about it, yep! He's clearly spitting feathers, whereas I just feel like spitting!

Sorry , am I missing something here ?

What magnificent player did we have on the bench or who wasn't picked that would have changed today ?

Another reason to have Kelman on board for next season. Not only does he know where the goal is but he also seems to stay fit and available.

Only until he gets treated by our medical team.

Are we eternally cursed guys that's the question

Was Loftus Road built in a gypsy graveyard or something?

If only Les had just left the Blue Peter garden alone.

Morrison didn’t start for the same reason Lloyd didn’t - just back from injury and the ‘sports science’ team decide how long they can do.

Obviously he didn’t choose to go to Stoke with a 5’4 centre forward..

Well, Lloyd looked pretty fit when he came on, for half the game. Couldn’t we have played him in the first half and seen how he was at half-time?
Or is it Sports EXACT Science, enabling them to know that he will only manage exactly 45 minutes and won’t be fit until 4pm?

Yeah is it me or is the whole sports science thing given players massive excuses these days?

We used to play through the pain , quarter zone injections, painkillers etc.

Maybe I’m just an old dinosaur but if they are fit , bloody play them . If they ain’t, leave them at home .

Mystifyingly, Marti said he wasn't fit enough to start but was miraculously fit enough to come on for the second 45. Aparently, professiopnal managers and sports scientists can see something in the difference between playing for three quarters of an hour at different times of day that mere amateurs like me must have missed!

I was happy to swallow the sports science stuff last season when we went through the whole thing with a mostly fit squad.

This season before every game two of our players have got injured midweek or “before travelling” and are out for a month.

Whoever is in charge of squad fitness this year has not covered themselves in glory - appreciate there’s a lot of luck involved but that team out there was missing a healthy amount of potential starters and boy it really showed.

Exactly. He might have made us better when the score was 0-0 rather than when it was 2-0 and we were chasing the game.

This season is really showing us what happens when your head physio / sports scientist tries to do the job remotely from Dubai, or wherever he is.

We've just had a 2 week break and now another week's break to the next match. Do players these days really play too much or is it that they don't play enough? I often think the games are anticipated for a week, the players rotated and given a half here and there, then suddenly the game is over and no one really got into their stride, or can build momentum.

Going back to Pat Nevin's book, he thinks the same. He had no problem playing 2 games in 2 days.

I wasn’t trying to pick you out ToastR, sorry mate.

I didn't think you were at all, that's not what I meant, bless ya.
What I meant was, I agree with you that the performance was so horrendous, it requires a mild form of medication to forget about how utterly appaling and depressing it was.

I just sat through Forest v Brighton as well. Worst game I've seen, 6 beers down.

That’s true, but I can’t see how he would’ve made us any worse. And if we’d scored first it might’ve worried then instead of scoring another consolation goal around the 80th minute.

Same here. Just woken up here in Seoul to find out the score and having read the Match thread it sounds like it was way worse than even my rock bottom expectations having seen the team before I went to bed.
Back for Cardiff next week and hoping that they at least make it look as if they’re interested in getting a result.

If Dembele had put that early chance away. If Anderson’s shot had gone in we might have won.
The management team are professional’s and they pick a team to do a job with the player’s that are available on a given day. The truth is at the moment the squad is,when fully fit, is just about compétant enough to compete in this league. Add in a serious run of injuries to key players and we will struggle. We did last season and we will next season, it’s where we are as a club.

But if Alfie was only fit to play 45 minutes, then surely it has to be the opening 45 minutes so he might make a difference when the score was level?

If the team had been half as good as the support we would have lost less embarrassingly. (Probably would have still lost though.)

As I've extensively alluded to in previous threads myself! But Nevin was a grafter as well as a talent in an era when playuers were, I think, more honest and industrious, and whose book makes it clear how grateful and happy he was to play professionally at all as an 'accidental footballer'. As my namesake Simon Stainrod has discussed, players are so cosseted these days most of them never build up any character.

Possibly. Then again they may have thought that his workrate and energy would best be employed against a a tiring defence, second half.

More likely this. Either way, if Alfie Lloyd currently is the solution then you have a problem.

Some abysmal team stats. Nine touches in the opposition box despite apparently chasing the game for 80 minutes. One cross to our man. Three dribbles without losing the ball. Comfortably losing the “duels”.
