Season perspectives 08:07 - May 4 with 31331 viewscharlieB

Great result yesterday against Sunderland. Credit to the players, the staff, and especially the 1000 or so amazing fans who made the trip – that kind of support, in a game with nothing riding on it, speaks volumes.

I’ve been reflecting over my morning coffee and just wanted to share a few thoughts. I know not everyone will agree, but hopefully it comes across in the spirit it’s meant – as a long-time fan trying to see the full picture.

Marti deserves credit for keeping us up last season – he did the job he was brought in to do. But this season, we saw many of the same problems. We started with tactics that didn’t suit the squad – too passive, too deep, no real cutting edge. The players looked unsure of their roles and lacking confidence. When we eventually changed approach, results picked up – but it took too long, and the early damage was done.

From what I’ve heard, he wasn’t well-liked behind the scenes either. Stubborn, slow to adapt, quick to deflect when things went wrong – and very happy to take the praise when they didn’t. He’s clearly a good coach, but I don’t think he was ever truly the right fit for this club. I won’t miss the terrace songs.

On the other hand, I think Christian Nourry deserves more credit than he gets. He’s only 28, but age doesn’t define ability. He inherited a tough job – tight FFP limits, a small budget, and a club that’s been firefighting for years. And yet, recruitment has clearly improved. Not every signing will be an instant success, but all have contributed, and a few could add real long-term value – which is crucial for us as a selling club. They’ll take time to adapt, but there’s a shift in thinking, and that’s progress.

The Ben Williams situation clearly had an impact – he was offered a big opportunity abroad and took it, which is understandable. But the void it left in the football department was felt. That said, I’ve heard that’s now been addressed for next season, which is good news.

Of course, there’s a lot to do this summer. We need a head coach who suits the group, a more consistent playing style, and a couple of clever additions. But I genuinely feel more hopeful than I have in a while. There’s a bit of stability creeping in, and for once, it feels like we’re not just lurching from one short-term fix to the next.

One thing we do need to change though – the way we treat some of our players. Madsen’s taken stick all season, often when he’s done little wrong. Now it’s Dembele. It’s like we always need someone to have a go at. These lads are human. They need support, not abuse. Confidence matters.

Anyway, that’s just my view – take it or leave it. I’m not pretending everything’s perfect, but I do think there are a few more reasons for quiet optimism than people give credit for.

Thanks again to Clive – this board remains a brilliant space, even when we don’t all agree. Have a great summer everyone – and here’s to next season, hopefully with a new head coach who can take us forward on this mad old rollercoaster we all insist on riding.

Brilliant ‘independent thinking’. So eloquently put. If you give it, have have to take it. Clearly the truth hurts.

And there you are. Sums you up stooping so low. As I said, I’m dyslexic and did use AI to shape my post but the content was all mine. It’s the future. I would recommend it as it would make your language more eloquent too.

Is this really necessary Punter........

As it happens I find some of the stuff written about Nourry to be unbelievable (not saying it is) and wonder how so many posters know so much about the 'inner workings' of the Club.

We don't that's the problem as you will gather from Clive's previews and reports, the OP has posted stuff that is apparently fact but after repeated requests can't substantiate where the information originated.

I posed the question earlier that somebody with dyslexia would be unlikely to construct the original OP, we were then told it was written with AI which is possible, personally I know nothing about AI and Chatgpt but i guess you need a reasonable amount of literacy in the first place to create an informative piece of writing.

As you rightly say for anybody to know this information it has to come from a source at the club.

Yeah I agree but I don’t see the need for him/her/it to be called a “p rick” from behind a computer screen.

Understood, BUT there is no need for stuff like Punter is doing, it says a lot about the individual.......poor play indeed!!!

Please don't now make yourself out to be the victim by focusing on dyslexia and the use of AI. My wife uses it for her dyslexia and it helps her a lot.

The issues with your approach to this are numerous and include:

1) The content that you stand behind, e.g. claiming 'stability' at this moment!

2) Your lack of responsiveness on perfectly fair questions, only to then say you were speculating - pathetic at best, suspicious bullshit at worst. Now it's the use of AI which could have been gently raised pages and pages ago if you are a real person - which we unfortunately still have to wonder!

3) Your attitude - you were the first person to discuss people throwing punches however metaphorical, calling the editor of this website a cyber bully ffs, suggesting anyone who disagrees with your farcical content is a sheep, talk of 'standing your ground' (do me a fcuking favour) etc etc.

A lot of examples for that last one - so if you're trolling you're a right tit regardless, if you're trying to influence opinion for anyone behind the scenes I've seldom seen a worse effort, if you're legit I'm equally disinterested.

Probably worth having a look at how you're going about all of this. (Another) new account might be an idea.

Am I the only one who is getting a 'Peoples front of Judeah' vibes from Life of Brian?
Enormously funny reading this thread, honestly just use the ignore button and you'll find your blood pressure drops.
Fwiw if this was just a spin on behalf of someone he would have cut his losses and vanished rather than still digging a hole.

Morning Charlie, hope you're well.

Can you please let us know, using your inside knowledge, when our brilliant manager will be back from gardening leave and in his rightful position as Head Coach?

Many thanks

Apart from spam kitchen sellers I’ve never used the ignore button, just because someone has an opposite opinion to me doesn’t mean they’re wrong it’s just a different outlook.
Would be a boring message board if we all agreed.
