Could be the reason he didn't go to Spain.

We might have to take a hit on the fee but hopefully will free up wages for another striker I see Blackpool have sold a player to Charlton for £2 million hopefully that will enable them to sign Jerry [Post edited 17 Jul 10:47]

800k is the lowest the Swans want. It’s amazing really that people who don’t follow us on social media are slinging that figure about, can’t think where they got it from. Wages ? Easily negotiated but won’t be near as the Swans pay, but an extra year on his contract, option for a fourth year etc boosts his overall income.

Here comes the summer transfer rumour thread on 06:47 - Jul 18 with 1933 views | sw02sea | It’s obvious now we have serious investors, with serious intentions. Plus the additions of Modric & Dogg for new revenue streams. Surely there must be a way around financial fair play rules, with all these financial wizards at board level, to finance the purchase of O’Brien and/or a decent striker ?

I think O'brien was put to bed when we signed Galbraith and if we see Yates go a striker may come in. The massive wastage of recent years have left us with very little room to manoeuvre with PSR, we have the money but can't spend it. Investment in the academy to cat 1 would be outside the regulations and allowed, hopefully in my opinion that is the way we will go.

Nice to have Galbraith in but O'Brien did add a good defensive element to the midfield knowing when to drop in to cover players as they pushed forward, had a calmness on the ball about him that allowed him to pick the right options with a more forward thinking mindset that got us up the field at times quicker and to support the forward line when it was the right time to do so while being quick enough not to be bypassed by opposition players driving through the middle of the park. He may not have been a natural finisher but had the odd goal in him. Looking forward to the new season and hope the new signings can add to the strength and quality of the team.

What some seem to forget is the stamina O'brien has. The ability to play every minute of every game in the Championship is staggering. I know Grimes could do it but not at the same pace.

I think Widdell will be a game changer , simply because he can run past players with the ball. We haven’t had one of those in midfield for quite a while. Saying that I’d love O Brien back as we’d almost be unassailable in MF

We’ve missed this type of player for ages. A Leroy Fer or a Darren Pratley. Ntcham came close I guess. Makes the attacking players job so much easier if someone is running directly at defenders and causing panic.

Really looking forward to the season start for the first time in years. Can’t wait to see how he sets up the side…and a real test against Sheffield Utd first home match.
