Here comes the summer transfer rumour thread on 18:18 - Jul 21 with 4545 views | Whiterockin | Only my opinion but apart from Franco I don't think any of last seasons players in front of the back four are guaranteed starters. Yes some may start but with the options we have we will have to wait and see how Sheehan plays it. Personally I think we will play it more with pace through the middle and possibly go 4-3-2-1

I like the idea of nobody being 100% certain of their place. Makes a difference from seeing Grimes on the teamsheet week in, week out no matter how shit he was playing. I suspect the way Eom ended last season strengthens his chances of starting this one in the side. Unless others are brought in I'd be surprised if Widell and Galbraith aren't currently certs to play alongside Franco too.

Totally agree, I will be shocked if those four players you mentioned aren't in the starting 11 most weeks.

Throw in Inoussa the 4-3-2-1 is the only way I can see them all fitting in.

Think Sheehan had time to assess the players in his periods on the coaching staff previously and last season when in charge had a better understanding of what the players could do. Lots of players in contention for the starting line up, will be interesting to see how thing pan out, in Sheehan's favour was he seem to know and was able to communicate the style of football that he thinks will get more points.

Maybe a 4-3-3 Vigs Key Burgess Cabango Tymon Widell Franco Galbraith Eom Vip Inoussa Or several other permutations of the above.

That was more or less my thinking with Vipotnik up top and two behind and floating of Inoussa/Eom/Cullen/Roald/Wales using the space to play wherever, behind Vipotnik, out wide or even in front of him if he drops a little deeper. We have so many options this season it's unreal and that's without Fulton, Congreve, Cooper and Cotterell.

The ability to adapt to different parts of a game 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, we will even see 3 at the back with 5 across the middle all about keeping things tight at the back but in attack being able to open teams up quickly or able to exert pressure to create the goal scoring opportunities. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Am I the only one concerned about Vipotnik? He either comes back a much better player or he’s got no business being in the team ahead of Cullen Less goals Less assists Less chances created Less involved in build up/general play The only thing going for him is his physique. I don’t think Cullen is the answer either. Vip either needs to level up or we need to bring someone in there. Maybe if we get Yates off the wages.

Totally agree. He needs to be more mobile, show more strength when playing up against defenders and show more movement in the box and perhaps he’ll grow into it this season with the new fast attacking players we’ve brought in which hopefully will lift his game up a level, I’m not overly optimistic though.

If Vipotnik doesn’t have the strength I’m not sure what Ronald can bring. Far too easily knocked off the ball. I want Ronald to be what we all hope he’d be but I’m losing any confidence I had in that. Maybe the new season will prove me wrong.

Often a fullback will give an early dig at a winger Ronald knows that will try and influence the ref, once booked a full back will need help. When Ronald first ca.e here he was bossing the likes of Naughton telling him where he wanted the ball but with William's help Amy confidence he had was shot. One thing I would say as a winger put back to play fullback he knew how to handle the opposition winger making sure he rarely had time with the ba at his feet without Ronald getting a foot in, he was a better fullback than Key was at that point except he was inclined to chase the ball down, the trouble was that our players didn't expected it and in one case Cabango didn't react in time and we paid the price.

I would agree that Cullen is the better choice to start the season up top, if no #9 is brought in specifically to start as a #9. His movement, fundamentals, and anticipation skills are better than Vip's. I want to see how well Cullen & Widell work together. There are a lot of options to deploy on both sides as well as up the middle. Exciting football ahead this season, let's hope! Probably toward the end of the window we may see 1 or 2 loanees come into the squad. It appears that Sheehan and Montague have pretty much what they want at the moment.

I’m sort of clinging to that hope too. I don’t want to write him off, he does has some flashes of brilliance. Like you though, I thought he was very underwhelming and a real weak link last season. We’ll certainly create more chances with this team. The issue is, chance creation isn’t just down to the person playing the final ball, a lot of it is down to the striker receiving the chance. I’m very confident that given an equal number of games, Cullen would have a lot more chances created for him than Vipotnik.

If you could put Cullens head on Vipotniks body, you’d have a pretty impressive championship striker. Widdell, Wales, Inoussa all promise a lot of interplay in attacking areas. Cullen is certainly better suited to that. I’ve said previously, I think loans in key positions (like O’Brien last season) can really add value to the squad. Yes, there’s no sell-on or long term planning, but you’re essentially signing a player who would be out of your range on a permanent contract. We’ve had mixed results in the past, it’s just a case of finding the right one. A Rhian Brewster (as he was at the time) would likely run riot in this team. As for Richards point regarding Ronald, I can see where he’s coming from, but my gut feeling is the final piece of the jigsaw is currently outside of the squad. The one thing will say for Vipotnik is Cullen is probably as good as he is going to get. If Vip can master the fundamentals, he has a much higher ceiling. Jury is out on that for me though.

It was and if he turns it around, that’s by far the best scenario. I’m just not confident based on last season.

Parting of the ways by mutual consent, it makes sense because he seemed to be in no mans land. Be nice if we had a sell on but I don't think we would see anything worthwhile. Good luck to the lad and I hope he has a long career.

I suspect we'll know by the end of October how hard he's worked over the Summer Period to shape his game and fit the mould Sheehan wants. He's injury free and will have had a full pre-season. After an underwhelming 24/25 he needs to hit the ground running this term or those who still have blind faith will soon lose it.
