Put in the Google poor championship season and one of the first things that came up was a fan on Sheff Utd site written in February saying how rubbish the standard was that season that his own team that had been (2nd most of the season - think that is what he/she said, not going to revisit it now) had been rubbish and all the teams they played had been rubbish (only QPR and Sunderland I think he said were any good at Bramble Lane). |
Is that the Sheffield United team that couldn't get out of "a poor league".

That's correct, they finished 3rd on 90pts and lost in the play off final. Do you think the championship last season was strong then ?

I prefer to watch my football live unlike you who relies on Google which shows up your lack of football knowledge You can't even spell the name of Sheffield United's ground correctly 🫢 oh and Sheffields points were a record for not gaining promotion it would have been 92

6 teams with parachute payments, so nearly 25% of the teams had a big budget. Did they perform to their potential no but that doesn't make it a poor league. The teams that came up finished 16th, 17th and 19th so none finished top half. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the toughest I would rate 6 just above average for the championship. This season should be about the same for me, not a really tough league but by no means poor. Squad spending per season puts about 10th or 11th above that and we are out performing our financial position.

I also wonder if a former international striker might end up with us - someone who has recently left their club after long service and is available on a free - perhaps making their high wages affordable.

Judging by comments by posters on here they used to think I was a jealous commie, envious of anybody with money, so I had to say that wasn't true otherwise I was having that responce to my posts all the time. But it's equally not true that I'm rich, I worked shifts for the best part of 40 years and somebody with lots of means would not do that, having cars that requires mots means those cars are over 3 years old, the old watch I took to the jewellers was 40 years old, the horse I had shod was retired, so you like others on here read into things wrongly I'm not poor but I'm not rich by certain standards either.

That watch is over 40 years old, actually it's worth more melted down in scrap than I paid for it, strange but true. Working shifts and been unable to see lots of games makes a season ticket bad value for money and I don't like having to sit to watch football, being stuck next to people you don't like is another problem, getting to Swansea is a problem, no train nearby, busses virtually impossible as it would take all day, car parking problematic, the football is boring, no getting it in the mixer, no tackling, players pretending to be injured, officials with no idea, home crowd totally changed since the turn of the century (and often not representitve of me), for me it's not a particularly nice experience at the new stadium (what I call new stadium). I enjoy the odd few games a season don't get me wrong but I would rather watch it on the box in the main, it maybe an age thing as for years and years me and my butties would make a day of it. Do you think that somebody that has seen 100s of Swans games is no longer a fan unless they attend every match ?

I think when someone invests no money into the club they can't complain when we don't spend more than we can afford on players.

If you used to go to a lot of games and now you don’t, you’re certainly not the fan you were. Applies to me. I used to go away quite often, now it’s a couple of times a season.
