If he goes to Portsmouth and does well then that might indicate that perhaps he's a better option in the long run than Ronald.

I had a lot of hope in Bianchini but it never seemed to click with him. Maybe we are not the right club for him.

I don’t see his move to Portsmouth being a developmental one to come back here a better player. If he doesn’t perform there then of course that will be different.

Three goals in eight starts is not a horrible return.

It's hard to make a sensible assessment of him based on how he did under Williams because all of our attacking players struggled in that style and setup. Most of his appearances were 15-20 minutes or so in games where we were already struggling to break teams down. The most time he got in a game under Sheehan was 16 minutes.

I think there's a player there. His intelligence off the ball was noticeable to me. He worked hard and made a lot of very smart runs when he played upfront but the pass simply never came.

It’s not three goals from eight starts, it’s three goals from eight starts and twenty eight substitute appearances.

Neither Cullen nor Vipotnik (apart from Sheehans first two games) were significantly better or worse after Williams, so I doubt Bianchini would have improved dramatically.

I do agree it’s hard to judge players on 15 minute cameos, but it should be very easy for Sheehan to make a decent assessment of him after almost a full season of working with him as a coach then manager.

Reality is, we’ve spent £6m in transfer fees alone on players who can’t get in the team over the last couple of seasons. If we want to sign a Kone or a McBurnie or whoever, we need to get as much of those wages as possible off the books. He’s not going to get much playing time now we’ve signed two wide players and are looking to get a striker in.

So if he only plays fifteen minutes it doesn’t count? Even if he does it twenty eight times?

Regardless of impressing you or me, and I will say he did impress me in a couple of those games, he’s had all the time in the world to impress Sheehan on the training pitch.

Neither Ronald nor Vipotnik had particularly great seasons, if you’re behind both of those in the pecking order then we sign two wide players and look like we’re deep in the market for a striker, then surely a loan and a chance to prove Sheehan wrong with regular 90 minute games suits everyone?

I'm not arguing the fact that Sheehan's not all that fussed. Clearly he isn't. I may disagree with that, but it's his call.

The point I'm making is that "appearances" aren't all the same. You can't sensibly claim that Bianchini had just as much chance to score in a 15 minute cameo in a game that might already have been lost as he did in a game where played most of the 90. Goals per minute is perhaps a more meaningful measure, but even then there are issues with it. For me the fairest way to do it has always been to count games started as the most important.

Ronald started almost every game and scored fewer goals. I'd wager that Bianchini's goal return would have been even higher than it was had he started as often.

Of course. No one is pretending 15 minutes at the end is the same as the full 90 minutes, that would be ridiculous.

At the same time, if he has 28 of them and they average around 15 minutes each, you can’t realistically argue his only opportunities to impact games came in the 3 he started.

I didn’t dislike the player, I thought he was a bit of a headless chicken at times, but he ran at defenders with pace and aggression, which is something we’ve missed.

If Sheehan doesn’t rate him, he’s got to go, same as Jerry Yates. There’s a decent chunk of wages to pay a new striker if they both go.

Vip, doesn't have a striker's instinct, anticipation or the awareness to be the answer for us in my opinion it doesn't come natural to him, we need far better than Vip.

Maybe it's wishful thinking. I think there is a player there. But he has a uphill battle if we sign Kone. With Cullen preferred over Vipotnik too, it really needs to be his season.
