I remember reading the Winchester was located somewhere near Chalk Farm station, no idea if that was so though.
The locations were a movable feast. https://www.minder.org/locations/index2.htm Future Mrs Sheen lived off Churchfield Road in Acton that briefly hosted the car lot, with the Winchester Club round the corner.
Ah Minder, the last confirmed sighting of light and bitter.

I love minder. Watched all of them again when home with my newborn.
The front door for the Winchester was next door to Julie’s on Clarendon Cross. At least for some of the series. I walk past it on the way to QPR and give them a little nod.
A highlight for me was when they drive down Highlever Road, where I lived when I was one. Probably about the same time too.

I’m pretty sure the first screening was delayed for weeks if not months by a technicians’s strike. I remember seeing big posters promoting it on the Euston Road (presumably outside the Euston Films studios) and thinking that looks interesting, waiting ages for it to be shown and not being disappointed. A fantastic show; brilliant writing, brilliant characters, and the icing on the cake was the many QPR references. For me one of the great trinity of early eighties British TV with Boys From The Blackstuff and Au Wiedersehen Pet.
It’s interesting that Leon Griffith the writer was a Northener and though most definitely West London-centric it was largely inspired by the characters he met drinking around the pubs and private clubs of North London.
My favourite Minder trivia is Waterman, a Ch*ls** fan, lobbying and lobbying in pre-production for Terry’s character to be a Ch*ls** fan too. Eventually he was told definitively, possibly by Griffith, that Terry McCann would not be a Ch*ls** fan as this would severely impact on any sympathy the audience would have for him.

That's correct DP. The first episode aired on Monday 29th October 1979 after the ITV technicians strike ended. Presumably it had been pencilled in to start at the beginning of September when the new programmes are in the autumn schedule.
It was during this strike that the BBC repeated 'Abigail's Party' and with just the BBC to watch it got an absolutely enormous audience and gained much of its popularity from this screening as it aired to little fanfare originally a couple of years before.
The Sweeney and Minder remain my favourite TV shows of all time and always watch a rerun when they are on. And who didn't love Terry's on/off girlfriend Debbie.
It was the West London I grew up in - Fantastic casting and screenwriting. Terry was my icon. Plenty of QPR references in both shows.
Boys from the Bush was another show around that time that had QPR as a main feature. The main character was a QPR fan who drank in our much loved Crown and Sceptre before moving to Australia.
Great days indeed sadly now from a much loved bygone era.
However, it had a few politically incorrect ideas which were of its time. But over time got rod of those and still carried on well.
What we need is a new Minder series that captures the old without being too politically correct and also not being offensive. It can be done.
So, Terry and Arthur, characters as they are. Both male and from working-class backgrounds, both now facing the challenges of living in an upper-class area (class was a big part of Minder) and having to survive in a cut-throat world that wrongly looks down upon them due to where they have come from. Doing what they can to survive in a world that cares little for them. Arthur can still be the failed businessman who does dodgy deals, and Terry can still be our tough, rough hero who has a heart of gold.
And of course showcasing West London again.
The Sweeny was good for its time, I would like to see a reboot of this coppers vs robbers, with as before the coppers being flawed and dysfunctional still and the robbers being even more grimy and wrong-uns, this would make another great show.
Reagan should be as flawed as before and always losing the battle against the bureaucracy and harshness of the world we live in, making him more bitter and twisted. Whereas Carter, who follows him, is no longer sure of his methods but still does as he's told as he has so much deference for Reegan, even though Reegan disrespects everyone including Carter.
For Reegan the ends justify the means and he always comes out worse. The police at the time hated the Sweeney as it exposed a lot of their mentality at the time. They would prefer some soft puff pieces like the Thin Blue Line.

I did quite like Minder, but it's a bit sad that, on his own admission, Waterman could be a bit of a (thick) c*nt in real life, specifically with his ex-wife Rula Lenska. (That's the problem with 'strong, intelligent' women apparently - as a man, you sometimes just have to lash out at them! )

Loved Minder. So many great episodes. So many locations that I know and grew up in. Pretty sure The Winchester had a number of locations including one next door to Chalk Farm station.
The Modfather on here knows a lot about the episodes and locations of the programme. Very nostalgic for many of us. The BBC / ITV would never make anything like this again sadly.

Arthur Daley was a masterpiece of a creation by a truly great actor, throughout the eighties he became synonymous with the Thatcher mindset of lookout for oneself and bugger those more unfortunate than you. George Cole created it and played it beautifully never really got the recognition he deserved, genius acting.

Don't expect anything from the BBC. A couple of years back they had an “adaptation” of Dickens' Great Expectations. The rewritten dialogue had the actors saying things like “ no way” and “oh wow” The BBC should be a quality channel and leave the garbage to the commercial channels.

I believe the credit George got was that Minder really became about him. The idea of the programme at the start was geared towards Terry being the main character. The way George played Arthur made him the main character instead. Hence when Dennis left, Minder still continued with George. I think the chap who played Ray is an Arsenal fan in real life.

I've owned a Mk4 Ford Zephyr and a Vauxhall Cresta and Bellbottom jeans. (In my time).
Jive talking.
Went to a car auction some 20 odd years ago.
My brother in law bought an old BMW that day.
Reason mentioning it, the last lot of the day was a dodgy old Ford Granada, think service history was limited and required an MOT once driven home.
Got zero bids and there wasn't a reserve price on it.
So the auctioneer started bids, no takers until he said we need it to move on, and so he went so low, that he said to start with it's cheaper than a taxi fare home, and eventually it was purchased for a bargain basement price of ten quid !!!!
Can imagine that would have been an Arthur Daley type "busines" deal !!
He would have instructed Terry to drive the deathtrap home, and Terry would have politely told Arthur, he wasn't happy !!!
I watched both with Terry and then Ray (although stopped after the 1st series with the latter , because it just didn’t feel like the same programme anymore).
