Get some cash, get Belk to identify a couple more of his ilk and repeat. Its what clubs like us have to do.

We're a selling club but not for peanuts, £5m including add ons is going to be at most £3m less agents fees, tax etc.

Agreed but not much point for me if we are getting low prices like WLS are saying here - even £5m "package" rather than fee - other clubs do this and get crazy money for similar sales.

I would accept £7.5M plus add ons. As long as the £7.5M is pais up front.

But at least other teams are bidding for our playwrs and willi g to pay a semi decent fee.

Also wouldn't surprise me if this was just put out by the club, just to say to people 'look our recruitment is working, people want our players, but we won't be bullied'. Unless Dave Mac has great contacts at Espanyol

Edit - just in case that comes across as negative, it is not. We should be shouting from the rooftops that young players should join us and could be wanted in La Liga in 12 months time.

Would need to be a lot more than £5m to make it worthwhile. He seems happy here and is improving. Why sell at this stage?
3
Varane being sold? on 13:31 - Jun 2 with 4768 viewsJamesB1979

If we think he’s going to continue improving at similar rate as last season, we should wait because that 5m will become 10m. Hes signed a new deal (so no contract rush), we get 1 more season out of him rather than have to find a replacement asap and he’s got a good injury record.

For all the recruitment bashing many of us do on here, he’s clearly a huge tick. Getting offers of more than x5 your investment one year in is what we need a lot more of if we’re ever going to escape 12-20th in the second tier.

100% that, and if this offer is genuine then the Club is right to reject the first nibble and try to eke some more cash. But selling for five times the amount we bought him for last season is already impressive (at least, compared to our usual fückwittery)

Shit but local

Exactly , sorry guys this is under Nourry’s watch, which I have pointed out elsewhere. Got a new contract signed early as well !! I just support the club but this is evidence of strategy working, plus obviously the DS winning the PL Cup. Way too early to sell and new contract means ball is in our court, how often have we said that.

Varane being sold? on 13:52 - Jun 2 with 4496 viewsBrianMcCarthy

The line 'Rangers are expected to reject the offer' would seem to suggest that this leak is from inside Rangers rather than elsewhere, as only Rangers would know that.

Would be nice if it is true, as interest in our players is a good thing.
Would be nice too if we rejected the first offer.
I suppose we'll find out in time.

Not saying you're wrong.

I will be delighted if we cash in on one of our bright young things for some serious wedge instead of hanging on to them for too long and getting peanuts like we did with Willock, Dickie, BOS, etc, etc.

But most people on this forum and on social media recognise that the club has been keeping a stranglehold on communications that is counter productive and frankly a bit patronising.

So I can't help being a bit suspicious when the one story that does manage to sneak under the wire and make a break for freedom just happens to make the CEO look good (without even mentioning him by name).

Funny that

But yes, other than my abject cynicism about the motive for being allowed to know this bit of information at this time then yes it's good news.

It's definitely come from the club as "Rangers are expected to reject the offer" but you have spun this in a completely negative way. If it was a fabrication as you suggest, it'd come back to the player and potentially be a unnecessary messy situation no?

I'm not buying any conspiracies and will just take the positives, a kid that we spent 800k last summer has in a year at least 5x'd his value and we are still in a position to reject and rightfully demand more. This after we just tied him down to a new long term contract.

As you later added this should be nothing but positive and Varane is a great case study. Came in and really struggled at the start but at the end of the season was showing levels above a Prem midfield containing Rigg, Le Fee and Bellingham. Credit to the player and the development team, hopefully one of many for the future.

Great to be offered proper money for a player, more than five times he was bought for. Doubles all round.

However, all very well saying QPR should reject offers, but we should remember the player will have a view on this and the offer will not have come without the agent already indicating to Espanyol a willingness to formally discuss (gardening leave for JV?).

Varane has big potential. But not sure the story ends with a first rejection. He may really want to start next season with the 15th best team in the English second tier, up against Stoke and Wrexham, or perhaps he *may* just prefer playing for the 14th best team in Spain, against Barcelona, Real, Atletico and all the rest...

A negative way? Come on mate, read the post. I said it was a good thing that the club are putting this stuff out. I mentioned absolutely nothing about fabrication at all, simply that the club have chosen to make this information public for the reasons I have stated. Which again, I'll re-iterate is a good thing.

It will depend on what is in the player's contract.

If there is a buyout clause and the offer meets that then yes the player has to be told and given permission to talk to the other club.

If there's no buyout then QPR don't have to ask JV what he thinks or wants. He's under contract and that's what he agreed to.

I know modern player power means it doesn't always work out like that, but he can hardly down tools and start playing silly buggers at this time of year. Who'd notice!!

Okay I understand, I interpreted it as the club putting out false information, which I'm sure some people will think anyway.

Thank you for the clarification and I agree. The club should be making the most noise about the positive steps we are making

This is the model in action, which is exactly what we want.

Fee feels too low for the potential the player has, but selling at the right time (something we rarely do) and reinvesting is the only way we realistically move up in this world.

I do wonder what the number is that we'd entertain for him - especially given Espanyol are supposedly getting a wedge for their goalkeeper.

It didn't have to come out at all.

Most of the players we have signed under Nourry managed to go under the radar until the deal was done, and then we weren't told anything about transfer fees or length of contract.

And now we are being told that we're not accepting a £5m offer from Espanyol for one of our brighter talents.

Seems like selective leaking to me.

But I could be wrong. Maybe the club recognises the futility in trying to keep a lid on all this and is changing its communications strategy.

Let's see how it plays out and if they are willing to tell us how much they spend on new signings this summer.

If it's all above board then fair enough. If it isn't then we're being played.

It’s quite depressing, and telling, of how little many think of the hierarchy (for good reasons). Interest in one of our best younger players having its legitimacy questioned / being linked to some nefarious PR game that apparently we all know about.

I hope summer can cool everyone’s jets. It’s getting a bit mad on here when every bit of news is greeted with “But can we believe this to be true?!”. Just a bit sad imo.

Not really about contracts. Espanyol will have sounded out Varane's agent, who is French.

If the game model pitch to players is 'sign to QPR and we'll help you get where you want to be in your career' and then, when an offer at five times the sum you were bought for comes less than a year later, from the league you really want to play in, as you've indicated to both agent and club, it gets turned down...well, that game model pitch will no longer work.

This is great. It's what the club wants and needs. The only reason the story is out there is to encourage more and higher bids, almost certainly provided by the club. It's really very well played by Nourry and recruitment.

I believe I said that JV would be a £10mill+ player next season if he continued developing as he did across last season.

When we sell we need a hefty sell on clause.

Really think he could make it to the very top.

Fair play to the lad

My previous reply to you was just me being over pedantic - not one of my finer features :-) about whether we need to take JV's wishes into account at this point.

Overall I agree with you that it's a good thing we have seen one of our signings from last summer settle in and grow into a better and more valuable player.

Let's hope there's plenty more where that came from.
