In the first half Ipswich made the mistake of having most of the pocession, which led to Bristol strolling through them at the back. Thankfully, we're not likely to follow that route & we can certainly cause their defence problems as they have less pace than us. The right back, in particular, looked like a suicidal moment away from losing them the game. Not that Furlong was much better for Ipswich! For possibly the first time, I would say that Armsrtrong looked as if he might be a footballer after he came on as a sub. I wasn't surprised that he made runs behind the Ipswich defence or that the passes he received were good, but Sinclair kept the ball under control & picked out the right pass. Even the save from his one on one with the 'keeper was due to good goalkeeping rather than a miss. Saturday will definitely be a game where we need less than 40% of the ball & break quickly from defence. |
Nice report, thanks Terry. | |

Rest of the Championship thread 25/26 on 00:58 - Oct 1 by FredManRave | Actually, we need Coventry to lose tomorrow to keep them on 13 points, so with a win we go above them on 14 points and into 3rd place. However, that win would have to be by a better goal difference than Millwall's required win, as they play Coventry and, currently have the same points and GD as us. So, basically, we need to beat their win. Also, you forgot about West Brom which is understandable. They currently have the same points as us but a better GD by 3. So, whilst a draw or loss is preferable for us to cement our place in 3rd, if they do win (against lowly Norwich) then we would need to beat their result by a 3 goal difference or more because with a better win by 3 goals will mean we have the same goal difference as them, but we will have scored more goals, so will be above them, sitting pretty in 3rd. And the same actually applies, in principle, with our chances of finishing the day in 2nd. We'd just need to win with a +7 GD, at the very least, as that would take us to the same +5 GD as Sjoke, but we'll have scored more goals. Also, worth noting that if we were to win by scoring 7 goals we would also end the day as the Championships joint top goal scorers and with 8 or more we would be in first place for goals scored. Don't think us being highest scorers in the Championship is in the Glossary?! Apologies if a Spackman. |
Phew! Well, Dave's premise was being level. Now, I don't take with that concept because there's no such thing even if it comes down to alphabetical order - and tomorrow we can't be level with Stoke for reasons you've indentified. So, playing along with Dave can only mean level on points alone. Any win puts us level on points with second and the West Brom result can't change that. It's all beautifully poised for QPR to fail at the threshold. [Post edited 1 Oct 13:14]
