Norwich City are closing in on the signing of Brondby forward Mathias Kvistgaarden for an initial fee, believed to be about £6.9m. 23 goals in 38 games and 23 years old but.................... where are Norwich getting £6.9m from and what does that say about the cost of strikers in the future for the likes of us?

Again, a mid table Championship side spending big money everyone knows they don't have on an unproven player.

These club's are nuts doing what they are doin, it's absolute madness. All the club's that have been or are now struggling financially should be huge wake-up call, yet still more lemmings prepare to jump into financial oblivion.

I am dead chuffed with what we are doing, and though it has taken a good few years, we are no longer the biggest basket case in the league.

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣

They do have it though. They've sold £50m in talent in the last year, and spent £30m.

In the last 12 months Norwich have received £12m from Marseille for Jonathan Rowe, £15m from Galatasaray for Gabriel Sara, £8m from Celtic for Adam Idah, £5m from Hull for Abu Kamara, £3m from Dusseldorf for Christos Tzolis.

Been saying it for years, we need regular significant player sales in this division. Without them, or parachute payments, we can't spend. In the last 12 months we've got £3m for Dykes and Armstrong.

Yes, that's an impressive amount of money received in transfer fees by Norwich. Three of the players listed came through their academy: Rowe, Idah, Kamara.

They could easily receive another £25m plus from the sales of Sargent and Sainz.

It's great that we got anything at all, but that £3m must have been dependant on Armstrong and Dykes doing XYZ, which I doubt very much if either did last year...

And I wonder how much of those Norwich sales were actual cash, or payments amortised over x years?

What's the basis for this rant?

We have pushed the P&S limit of a £39m loss over a three year period to the very edge. We've been so perilously close that we previously had to back-weight two year contracts to stay within the boundary. The only way for Norwich to be losing any more than us from a P&L perspective is if they're investing in disallowable costs like academies, infrastructure or women's football; none of which I'd put in the basket case category.

In our last set of accounts they turned over £12m more than us in 12 months OUTSIDE of broadcast income. They also made £11m more than us in 12 months in player sales.

If they're making £23m more than us PER YEAR before Broadcasting and parachute payments come into it, it's hardly surprising they can afford to pay £7m for a striker when we paid £3m for Nico Madsen 12 months ago.

The simple facts are they turnover £36m more than us over the P&S period on a like-for-like basis, they have more saleable assets than us and have sold more assets than us and they ultimately don't lose any more money than we do. In fact, their losses are a significantly lower % of their turnover than ours.

I think you're a bit misguided here.

And as a fan base we are still not getting. There was a suggestion last month that Varane could be sold for 5M. Everyone started jumping up and down saying he is worth way more than that. Over FIVE times what we paid for him.a year ago after - at best- a mediocre season. We wouldn't gave been able to give him away last Christmas. It was the same with Willock and look how that turned out. We have done it once with Eze, which is not nearly enough to be competitive

Norwich are a very well run football club (but not a very successful team since their last relegation, an important distinction in current finance obsessed football fandom).

Lumping them in with the actual basket cases while proclaiming us as real well run ignores the realities of the last three years.

Don’t get me wrong things look better than they have been, but we are currently more like where we were under Warbs than anything like where Norwich are.

Put it this way - if your hot property is an indicative measure of your club’s state: ours is Varane and theirs is Sargent. I know which one I’d rather.

If Leicester are struggling for money with potential penalties coming down the line anyone good (Rohl) linked with that job may have second thoughts

I think that Sky stated yesterday that Gary O'Neill is likely to be appointed & that they had decided against Rohl. Of course, Sky have been known to report rubbish!

I suspect that having to pay compensation to Wednesday might have been taken into consideration.

I agree, for this growth model to work we need to be selling one of our better assets every year for a few years in a row to find the pipeline of bringing in more prospects to sell later.
It might even be that for the first few sales the club doesn't realise the value that the fans think they should until the club starts being able to wipe its own bum.

The only caveat is that there needs to be a strong market for selling Championship players at high value, which might actually be dropping off since Eze times...

The thing with Varane is that he is still young and has had one decent season in the Championship. He plays in a position that is very attractive to a lot of clubs. Whilst he is not worth £5m at this stage, provided he continues to improve as much in his 2nd season as he did in the first, then £5m would be a giveaway.

But as Clive, and others have said, we need to be doing a sale every year at that sort of level.

Looks like Norwich are losing both Sainz (£15m to Porto) and Sargent (£20m to Burnley) which explains further why they're splashing the cash on a striker.

I think they are right not to sell anyone just yet. I think the "sell someone every season" aim should begin after this coming season. I would think you want players to at least have had two full seasons before selling them to get a decent amount for them.

Selling someone who has had half a season bedding in then half a season looking good would probably end up with a profit but not enough of a profit.

Hopefully, Varane has a barn storming season for us then we look at getting a really good amount for him. I'd say the same is true for Liam Morrison and Morgan too.

Not even sell Chair if an offer comes in? This squad has a few #10's this year

This is something we are terrible at in selling people at the right time, If you get 7/8million up front for Varane this summer we have to take it and see that as a big sucsess then bring in a replacement

Nathan Jones has signed Reece Burke to Charlton from Luton. That is either 3 or 4 players he's nabbed from Luton now. I klnow he knows them but it does seem odd to buy so many of your old team's players, especially as they struggled in the Championship last year?

Never knowingly right.

I was looking at this the other day. Chair is 7th on the all time list and could be 5th by Christmas. He could realistically be top in 4-5 season with a good run.

Matthew Rose is 8th. Unbelievable stat.
