Let's get giddy for a moment. If Eze goes this window and we end up circa 13M, should we splash out on an actual centre forward? Who should we look at?

Depends if we sell Kelman or lose him for nothing at end of season.

I think Millwall may offload Macaulay Langstaff for less than £750K. He's 28 now, had a very disappointing season there (1 goal in 34) but he is a goal machine and possibly just needs a change of club. A goal scorer is a goal scorer. I think he will come good again and could be a bargain?

Or 10 minutes of Erling Haaland. Bloke seems to have gone down to one goal a game now. Time to find his mojo again?

Never knowingly right.

That 13 million has probably already been spent over the last couple of seasons in the expectation the Eze money comes through.

Sure to be in instalments and don't think we should assume it will all go into transfers (the board has talked, optimistically, about making the club self-sustaining).

But assuming we do have significant budget am not convinced another centre forward is a priority before selling at least one and sending another on loan. If we had bought the League One top scorer for 3m we would all be delighted, so why not look forward to the prospect of someone shining who is already here? Frey does a job. Am excited to see more of Kolli. The 20 goal a season Champ striker is something of a myth these days.

If we were to spend serious money on one player, much more transformational would be a midfielder who could actually pass forward - just image, someone taking a ball from Field or the centre half on the half-turn, jinking past a player or knocking a defence-splitting pass (or even just nudging it 5 yards forward to someone in hoops). Isn't the absence of such a player the root of so many of our complaints from watching this team?

Genuinely struggling to remember: when was the last time we had such a player?

The cash being in instalments doesn't necessarily matter*, though exactly what we get will be affected by how Palace structure any sale and add-ons etc. We just need to be able to book the profit for PSR purposes to take advantage of it ourselves, which to my understanding happens straight away though I'm not totally au fait with how sell-on fees are accounted for.

*obviously cash matters in the long run and you don't want to get caught out unable to pay wages or the tax man, but in our situation where we have rich owners held back by our weak PSR position it's the accounting rules that drive decision-making rather than the timing of cash receipts.

I think many of us have repeated the conundrum QPR face with CK and one thing is sure, we need a decision sooner rather than later.

Do we give CK a proper run in the Starting XI and hope that he repeats his Orient exploits and eventually, signs an extension, or do we cash in now while his stock is high. The latter means we need to decide if he's not going to push on in the Championship and/or he's not going to extend.

For me, a lot depends on what returns to us. If he comes back in and shows eagerness to push on and a willingness to extend, then we put our eggs in the basket. If he looks like he's dithering and maybe, had his head turned, then get shot asap and suffer the consequences in the knowledge that with all the certainties known, and imponderables aside, we made the right choice.

As for the Eze money, I am sure a significant percentage is already set aside for offsetting debts and maybe even keeping some back for January. Either way, CN has some decisions to make and no crystal ball to make them with.

If we're spending £13m on a striker we still need to buy young and look to sell him for £30m in five years time so not for me.

I think it would be amiss to chuck the system out the window the second we get some cash.

If Eze is sold I'd hope to use the money to try and sign handsome Ronnie.

I know there's a lot of if's, but's & maybes to it all but that would be my focus. He's a tried and tested entity.

Agreed.

We know this fella is a future top level player, maybe even England class (not too hard in defence these days)
I'd say £4.5mill on him is money well spent.

BUT!

We do need goals.

Maybe look at League One's top goal scorer and see how much we can get him for?
Oh..........

Why would Soton sell Edwards and why would he want to come back to us? I simply cannot see any reason for it happening.

Who needs goals.... with handsome Ronnie we could pretty much just about 0-0 every game to safety!!!

I wasn't really thinking we'd blow 13m on a striker tbf, just entertaining the thought that we might for the first time in a long while be able to pay what it takes to sign someone we could reasonably expect to threaten double figures

Think his value would be around £10 million now for me.

Saints are never going to sell him now. Would be madness.

I thought it was established long ago that goals are simply too expensive and therefore a luxury we can no longer afford?

Millwall have been clever and bought Josh Coburn off Boro for £5m. He's one for the future and already played 20+ games in the champs, scoring 5. So, 1 in 4

Classic wall as his a big number 9. Boro were stupid for selling him and they sold Jones to Luton last season for £5m.

Has Carrick screwed them over long term perhaps?

How about we give Kelman a run of 5-6 games on the spin and see what he can do
The bloke smashed in 25 plus goals last year

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Sure, although there's general agreement that he's more similar to Celar than Frey, and that we therefore lack a genuine target man who can play week in week out.
