Finger injury prior to game.
Better now that first game of the season plus we have 7 keepers ready to step into his spot right ? Is this our new Manager bounce then haha seriously though its just human nature somebody new takes over and its a clean slate everybody is on trial and places in the 11 have to be earned . Love it things looking up already

I only saw the 2nd half 60 mins in, but from this I can deduce that with the skill of Sutton (who looks the real deal) and with Smyth this now means we have backup on the left for Chair.
Adamson looks more like a midfielder than a RB. He got beat a bit too easily for me at RB, and a faster winger would have skinned him a lot. Stevenage couldn't handle him roaming around and moving into the middle though, which is interesting as it shows that Stevenage don't have the in-game tactical nous as a team when things change in front of them. Shows the difference between our level and theirs. As our pros would adapt in such a situation.
Celar looked lost again and was unable to hold up the ball properly. Poku looked decent. Bennie looked DS again. Vale looked out of position for me and was trying too hard. Mbengue looked decent, not sure he's good enough in the air though. Morrison was commanding. Field looked like he was strolling it, and still dominated the middle for us. Salmon is not up to this level; he should be loaned out.
Where is Tuck? This must be the year he goes up a level?

4-0 halftime, stand out players for me , Demble, Chair and Richards .
Interesting take that, connell. Richards did OK, but nothing really special, certainly not a stand out as I think everyone did well. Your opinion though, so fairs...
The first half was great because of the additional effort the team was putting in. Was it to impress the new manager or is it because they are energised? Who knows, who cares, but the effort for a first friendly was much improved from what I saw last season. That is good as effort will, once again, be the bare minimum for this lot.
The negatives were the injuries - OK, so maybe they are all "minor" (but then we know how minor injuries with this lot lead to months out), but it is the same old suspects - JCS, Kolli, Frey, Lloyd. That strikeforce is looking a worry especially if Kelman goes as Celar hardly set the world on fire out there today; he certainly doesn't like any kind of physical pressure on him from defenders which is what EVERY Champ team will put on him.
I'm not having it that JCS is injured, he's normally an ever present ( ahh, remember those days of 4-5 ever presents in.your side ? Frey also seems to be getting a name for injuries too.
It's being so happy that keeps me going.

I think with Tuck it's looking like out of the frying pan and into the Friar.

Blimey you're a tough crowd given it's the first behind closed doors pre-season run out after a week or so of training with a new management team and half a dozen debutants.

Salamon had very little to do so I don't understand how you can assess him as deficient.

What impresses me in this friendly is how many Rangers players make runs to overload the defence when they attack. Lots of left footed options as well which is handy. Harvey Vale looks like a real player and another lefty. Having both Dembele and Poku could be really interesting this season. Some very impressive goals today. Very much like Richards's outside of the left foot finish. That is not easy. Vale and Chair's goals are beauties.
Not saying it too loud but the future may actually look a bit brighter!?

Totally, you’re reading stuff into what’s basically a rigorous training session.

Know we can't read anything into it but certainly feels better than the 5-0 pre-season drubbing a couple of seasons ago against Oxford United both in squad compilation and performance.

Yes. But to be fair to Gareth, taking a look again at players involved in that pre-season…..blimey, some really poor players in that squad. Quite a few who have left and gone down leagues / levels.

I agree that's why I mentioned the squad compilation as well as the performance.
