Injuries...... 12:47 - Aug 7 with 12384 viewsMarkofthegrove

Two days out from the season and a few question marks in the squad and the club refuse to give the spiv fans an update. So what do we know?

Jimmy - Looks like a hip injury?
Steve Cook - Hammy.
Michi Frey – from all accounts, he looks like he is out for a while.
JCS - Broken Heartstring.

Anyone else?

Well we were told Smyth and Varane should be back this weekend which will be helpful. I don’t realise Cook was injured, where did that come from?

Thought it was:
Larkeche - out for season. ACL
JCS - meant to be back after international break but we will see as they say
Frey - back after international break
Poku - hamstring - no news
Dunne - hip - no news
Morgan - foot - rumour - no news

The issue is the rumour and speculation. The club should give an update. On the above, the only one we can look at medical staff for is Poku, maybe Frey. Dunne, Larkeche, Morgan…just unlucky football injuries.

Which international break are we expecting JCS to return after? The 2026 world cup?

This is terrible news for the doom mongers. Great news for everyone else! Fingers crossed similar positive news about Poku.

That's great news! I'm not sure why you think that there are "doom mongers" who would think otherwise.

A few years ago, Newcastle kept getting a freakishly high incidence of hamstring injuries which they attributed to the training pitches. Don't think there was ever any link proven but I'm sure they ended up replacing the surface.

Go back to Atkinson's time as manager at United, and they had a student in as part of his physio course. United were having a spate of hamstring injuries until the student twigged the problem. All their strength work was to focussed on the quads. Consequently, hamstrings couldn't keep up so they changed things and, voila!

When Wenger arrived at Highbury, he traced a couple of players' injuries to their teeth! Their jaws were out to compensate and from the neck down, their bodies shifted to accommodate and it ended up with leg injuries. Got the gnashers sorted, no more injuries!

Ryan Giggs took up yoga and it extended his career and brought delight to two Mrs Giggs as well.

Well, it feels like there are quite a few who jump on any bad news and seem convinced that the club is in a complete mess.
