Injuries...... 12:47 - Aug 7 with 25871 viewsMarkofthegrove

Two days out from the season and a few question marks in the squad and the club refuse to give the spiv fans an update. So what do we know?

Jimmy - Looks like a hip injury?
Steve Cook - Hammy.
Michi Frey – from all accounts, he looks like he is out for a while.
JCS - Broken Heartstring.

Anyone else?

Injuries...... on 08:22 - Aug 15 by JamesB1979

Well we were told Smyth and Varane should be back this weekend which will be helpful. I don’t realise Cook was injured, where did that come from?

Thought it was:
Larkeche - out for season. ACL
JCS - meant to be back after international break but we will see as they say
Frey - back after international break
Poku - hamstring - no news
Dunne - hip - no news
Morgan - foot - rumour - no news

The issue is the rumour and speculation. The club should give an update. On the above, the only one we can look at medical staff for is Poku, maybe Frey. Dunne, Larkeche, Morgan…just unlucky football injuries.

Which international break are we expecting JCS to return after? The 2026 world cup?

This is terrible news for the doom mongers. Great news for everyone else! Fingers crossed similar positive news about Poku.

That's great news! I'm not sure why you think that there are "doom mongers" who would think otherwise.

A few years ago, Newcastle kept getting a freakishly high incidence of hamstring injuries which they attributed to the training pitches. Don't think there was ever any link proven but I'm sure they ended up replacing the surface.

Go back to Atkinson's time as manager at United, and they had a student in as part of his physio course. United were having a spate of hamstring injuries until the student twigged the problem. All their strength work was to focussed on the quads. Consequently, hamstrings couldn't keep up so they changed things and, voila!

When Wenger arrived at Highbury, he traced a couple of players' injuries to their teeth! Their jaws were out to compensate and from the neck down, their bodies shifted to accommodate and it ended up with leg injuries. Got the gnashers sorted, no more injuries!

Ryan Giggs took up yoga and it extended his career and brought delight to two Mrs Giggs as well.

Well, it feels like there are quite a few who jump on any bad news and seem convinced that the club is in a complete mess.

If the club is being honest and not withholding the true severity of his injury from the fans, then that's good news. When he was on the ground, motionless after sustaining the injury, I feared that it was going to be long-term.

We still await further tests.

I sure some-one pointed out that he was out for 3 months from Dec 2024 due to surgery on a hamstring injury, so his initial reaction could have been 'oh no, not again'.

Fingers crossed it is only a couple of weeks this time.

True but he got up and walked off which is a positive, hopefully it's weeks and not months.

Yeah that’s what I thought. Imagine you can’t walk on a severe one. It should just be rest needed I hope and as you say weeks not months. Sounds like a “back after international break” one. He’s a young lad too, so helps the recovery.

TBH if it's a hamstring problem, and he had a hamstring last season, then I'd rather us give it what it needs than get in a rush to have him back for Coventry or whatever. Of all injuries they're really not something to pis about with. Better lose him for six weeks now than three months through Christmas.

Hull FC's best two players have just done 8 weeks out with hamstring injuries, and they brought them both back ahead of schedule last week to play against bloody Salford wearing compression pants. Never watched an 80-6 win from behind the sofa before!

Depending on the results, I would Def rather we just rest him up until we're sure and aim for post Intl break. No point risking hamstring stuff at this point

Oh yes 100%. We’ve got Kolli, Smyth, Vale, Sutton or even Chair can move out there, with Dembele. No need to rush him back.

All these rumours about him and Dunne out until Christmas. Who makes this s.hit up? Oddballs.

Things are looking much more positive this afternoon. At this rate we might just have a fully fit squad, bar Larkeche, come Wrexham next month.

I hope I've not jinxed it.

I think he is. He was only out last week because of the rules on concussion so should be fit and raring to go hopefully.

I'm not saying he's injured, but what's happened to Akindileni? He played in all but the last PSF and was arguably the most impressive of our youngsters. Hasn't been seen since.
