Injuries...... 12:47 - Aug 7 with 25957 viewsMarkofthegrove

Two days out from the season and a few question marks in the squad and the club refuse to give the spiv fans an update. So what do we know?

Jimmy - Looks like a hip injury?
Steve Cook - Hammy.
Michi Frey – from all accounts, he looks like he is out for a while.
JCS - Broken Heartstring.

Anyone else?

I am getting Smyth on and rotating Kone/Burrell upfront

Walsh
Morgan Mbwngue Morrison Esquerdinha
Field Madsen
Dembele Chair Smyth
Burrell/Kone (one starts, the other subs on at 60)

I think I’d be tempted to play Smyth on the left to help Esquerdinha

I agree. Definitely once Dunne is back. Smyth gets through a lot of defensive work and also his pace stops the oppo fullback from too confidently pushing up into attack.

I agree too, but I am not sure Stephen has seen this yet.

He must have done because he said he has watched all of our games from last season.

Any update on Poku? Seems to have gone very quiet. Don't even know whats wrong with him? Hopefully Smyth can start on the right. Leave dembele on the left on sat.

I suspect the fact that we have yet to hear anything means he’s going to be out for a good while sadly. I suppose the club are not saying anything because they don’t want the fans going mad again about more injuries to key players (especially so early in the season) and not to give Coventry too much information for Saturday. I hope Poku will be back for Saturday!

Most definitely. The fact they won’t say anything about it is infuriating. It’s more evidence of the hierarchy treating us like mugs. I don’t get a lot of the anger for game models, buying/playing young players and setting up a structure where the head coach is a coach. It’s what every successful club is doing. Player transfer value and age and more correlated than ever, Managers do not exist anymore.

But the comms, secrecy and failure to admit a mistake is driving me up the wall. Of all the furore this summer about everything, a lot of which I think is way OTT by many on here, the unwillingness to admit a mistake is the most concerning. Look at the fans forum and various interviews in which they had multiple opportunities to just say we messed this up bare with us, and instead claim everything is fine when it clearly isn’t.

The injury situation is obviously f’ed. Tell us who is injured and how bad it is. If they had treated people like adults since last summer the reaction to Cifuentes leaving would not have been as negative. As many have said elsewhere, they’re doing the hard stuff quite well and the easy stuff really really badly. I hope it doesn’t all come crashing down, but stuff like not announcing contracts or injuries matter and will be a big part of the reason (if) it does.

Vibes. Bad.

I’ve also got a feeling dunne wont be fit for Cov sat, he had a definite limp when he came out the end of the game with the majority of the players so expecting he broke down in training this week announcement sometime soon

I actually think the injury situation is one where their may be a competitive advantage in keeping things 'in house' as much as possible.

Even if that’s true - which we can disagree on - does it not annoy you? It’s been the way at the top table for ages, but it increasingly feels like we’re consumers of a product rather than fans.

You’ll get the information you’re told and be happy with it. That’s fine if you win every week. This board needs us to stay supportive. I think the little things like this have a big cumulative effect, and by all accounts the away end at Watford shows that.

The club didn’t give ANY info on injuries for ages but have been providing regular injury updates since last season.

Have they though? I remember lots of frustration about this around the time Cook got injured as we had no idea what was wrong, how long he'd be out and if/when Morrison/JCS would be available. We got an update for Cook and many (myself included) saw this as a positive sign the club was listening and reacting positively.

Since then, I'm not so sure.

Yeah that’s where I am. 2/3 injury updates a year is reluctant at best. To think it’s competitive advantage to not let Coventry know if Poku will be in squad or not is…wishful thinking. And even if it does help get a 0.1% edge, it doesn’t outweigh the damage of this comms strategy to the fanbase. I’ll die on the hill that this stuff matters, even if nothing will change under this regime

I think Dunne will start, maybe not Kone.
Great news on Poku. Was worried because of his issues last year with his hamstring. Means he misses next two games.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Most teams are already complaining about injuries. Watford had 5 out of the squad on Saturday. Just been on the Oxford site they are complaining.

I used to think we did too much running and not enough with the ball. Now training is all with the ball and rarely about running any distance in sessions at all. Perhaps that is why there are so many injuries because we don't send players out on 5 mile runs anymore?

Never knowingly right.

Good news regarding Dunne. Poku news better than what many of us were expecting. Hopefully no other injuries before Saturday so imagine team will be:

1. Walsh
2. Dunne
3. Esqueridinha
4. Morrison
5. Cook or Mbengue
6. Varane
7. Field
8. Morgan or Kolli
9. Kone
10. Chair
11. Dembele

And I would do exactly what Kevin Gallen said, play Morgan as an 8 with Illias starting on the left

I twisted my knee jumping off a bus last week.
Couldn't get a doc appointment so the local pharmacist sold me a knee support. Didn't help at all, so I took it back and told him “your support is f*ckin' sh*t”.
