Would have been interesting to see how how the game would have gone had we chosen to not play without a striker for 70 odd minutes. Cullen is an absolute waste of a shirt up front and has been since Martin's first season.

Bit of a wake up call for Sheehan perhaps. I maintain that it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't sign another strike in this window, but he's going to have to swallow some pride and make the right call on who leads the line.

Vip was more of a goal threat in 15 minutes than Cullen has been in the last game and 3 quarters

Agree with all that.

Galbraith making such an enormous difference at RB raises a few question for me too.

Although that maybe due to Key being so poor today.

After running the middle of the park he then went and showed Key and Ronald how right backs and right wingers play. 10/10 man of the match by a light year. Vigoreaux pulled of at least one world class save too. The finishing side is the one that should have started and Stamenic, a bit like Ante Rajkovic saw their number 66 was taking the piss and basically one kicked him out of the way!
And finally Cullen , after being caught offside by miles several times is not the answer. Our entire front 3 were 4 or 5 out of ten. Let’s get a right winger on the list Ronald looked awful today.

I thought Vig was awful. He seems to be nailed to the goal line and Burgess had to tell him a few times to come for the ball. Yes, he made a great save from the free header on the 6-yard box, but it was his cross all day long. It should never have got that far. We need a keeper, not a stopper. Dracula could cope with crosses better than Vig.

To say he was awful is a massive piece of hyperbole but I do agree that his overall game needs to improve. Ther have been instances, today included when balls going back in his direction should have been claimed and nit expect the defender to play it. He seems rooted to his line at times.

That said, he’s still an excellent keeper in my mind who with maybe a bit of coaching could improve further.

Vig has faults but he has saved us from horrific defensive plunders
The alternative is Fisher
I might have mentioned before we need real cover for him

I don’t think you quite get reserve keepers. They are nowhere near first team standard because they hardly ever play.

Fisher will be one of the best in the Championship. Granted he’ll almost certainly be one of the most expensive. Keepers like McLaughlin and Hamer are the norm. Most of them aren’t good enough for league one, or they’d be playing there rather than not playing in the championship.

Alan thinks Inoussa is a tool. Bit rude😳

He makes it quite clear (in a way) as to what his frustrations were today as well.

He’s right and something needs to be done there. It was cynical and blatant cheating

Totally agree, but what? A ref can’t ignore it or tell them to get up because there will be times when it’s genuine and all he’ll would break loose.

Today’s display however was bordering on disgusting and surely won’t have gone unnoticed by those in authority - PGMOL?

Before I settle down and watch the Bokke lose again , last thoughts on today
Woeful start selection with Cullen as a “ striker”
It’s what others me about Sheehan but today it was obvious the Swedes need to start
Wittel looks potentially terrific and is a warrior
Stemonic could or win be the signing that we needed
I’m
Less worried about striker coming in now o long as the Wales lad gets a fair go

Key is also one who’s starting days are over as Galbraith is a huge upgrade on composure alone
He looks confortable in a way Key doesn’t

We could and should have won but it’s why you should always start with strongest 11
The one that fo wished looked encouraging and the crowd responded in response

Simple really

Similar to my thoughts.

Put Vipo alongside Wales in the middle. They could work really well together. It will also draw defenders away from the wings allowing space for Swedes, Ronald etc running in to collect up ball either via a pass or clearance. ( Currently there are very few clearance balls because no one is having a pop from any real distance).

Everton had the guts to put on a young Rooney and he was soon terrorising defences. The same could well be true of Wales, but we need to find out.

Yalcouye seemed to be the only player threatening early on and not really sure why he was substituted.

I’m not sure what the answer is, but I’ve never seen it to that extent.

If that becomes a regular occurrence, it will have to be looked at because it’s flat out embarrassing.

Cullen for one of them, who else?

I was going to say the same about the time wasting tactics.

At one stage when the guy had gone down again in “agony” the referee called for the physios to come on and Sissoko and his teammates were stopping the physios coming on because they didn’t want to be down to ten men for 30 seconds or whatever it is.

I understand gamesmanship has always been a thing in the game and there’s a lot of dark arts but that display of cheating was embarrassing for Watford football club. I’d be ashamed to have to sit through that if it were my team.

At one point sissoko and his teammates were trying to stop the referee from calling the physios on when yet another Watford player decided to have a sit down. It was blatant. Embarrassing for the Watford fans who have travelled all that way just to watch their players pretend to be injured to waste time. Especially considering they have some decent players, if they’d put as much effort into getting a second goal as they did having a lie down they wouldn’t have needed to have cheated like that.

Two magnificent saves though mate.

And excellent distribution, I thought he was solid and not at fault for their goal.

Yalcouye was subbed as he was physically out mucsled. Yes he played a blinder but was ineffective.
We should have made the changes at half time.
Stamenic and Vips physical presence made a difference.

We can criticise Cullen all we like, and most of the fanbase know he is not a lone striker, yet our manager does....he has other options in rerms of personnel or formation but chooses to persist.

Observations from today

We finished the game with the team we should have started. We’ve dropped 5 points with a timid no show at Middlesbrough and got bullied black and blue during the first half.

Cullen is not the answer to our 20 or 9 predicament- Vipotnik came on and started bullying their defenders. Delighted for him to get a goal and stick it to his critics on here and the other site.

Galbraith looks not only to be our best midfielder but also Right Back and Right Winger. Shame on Key and Ronald who weren’t very good at all. A fantastic assist and 11/10 from me.

Eom - he has to make way for Inoussa who along with Vipotnik and Stamenic completely changed the game.

Stamenic came on and went straight over and kicked their best player (66). Once he was gone we started to dominate the game. Some beautiful footwork too - what a debut.

Drop the entire from 3 for the next game and include Stamenic from the start. Let’s see how they go.

I think the reason Sheehan sticks with Cullen is because he has the team set up the way he wants it to play with a striker up top playing in a certain way to fit into that. Cullen is the closest he's got to that and he had thought the guy they wanted was coming in any time now, tomorrow, next week etc. So rather than chop and change the team organization at this stage with a lot of new guys he asked Cullen to be a place holder for the new No. 9.

If that type of striker isn't coming, and it's now hard to think he is, I think Sheehan will re-work how the striker plays, perhaps the whole front 4 tactics.

Bellamy said that Cullen listened intently to what he said in a team talks and carries out his instructions to the letter. Is this the deciding factor.

Referees have the tools to deal with it. Once they decide it's gone too far they insist the next guy rolling around in agony goes off for treatment, don't let him stand up "You're injured mate, you go off for treatment". They have that authority and it was used quite a lot in the last two world cups to stifle play-acting.

They then ignore the frantic waving from the sidelines for some minutes now he's miraculously 'cured'. That puts a stop to it.

That’s a fair point and in that case, the referee let us down today. Killed momentum time after time. They weren’t even attempting to hide the cheating.

Rolling around to get someone booked they're used to, this level of cynical time wasting is new in the Championship. But they'll work it out, they'll respond.

It always takes a little time, and quite right too. Nobody wants referees to be trigger happy and they need to talk to their colleagues, decide where the limits are and what to do about it.

Inoussa had an injury and we don't know what the advice from the physios is. It could be that they don't want him playing too much game time as yet.

If you aren't careful a small niggling injury can be made far more serious.

He’s still on limited minutes. Let’s see if he starts on Tuesday. There’s no way that lad needs to be risked at all.
