Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread on 19:21 - Aug 23 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | At one point sissoko and his teammates were trying to stop the referee from calling the physios on when yet another Watford player decided to have a sit down. It was blatant. Embarrassing for the Watford fans who have travelled all that way just to watch their players pretend to be injured to waste time. Especially considering they have some decent players, if they’d put as much effort into getting a second goal as they did having a lie down they wouldn’t have needed to have cheated like that. |
The ref could and should have booked Sissoko and his team mates for "Ungentlemanly Conduct"
| Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎 |

Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread on 23:02 - Aug 23 with 2292 views | RichardO | We played quite well for the first 20 minutes even if we didn't create any chances that we should have. Key opening his body to play quick ball to Ronald for a change, Eom having a lot of ball high up the pitch, Cullen having balls to feet but we got shut down as the things we tried further up the pitch just didn't come off. Our tempo dropped off and their front two caused us problems which we didn't snuff out. We left our centrebacks two on two their forward pressure eventually told, quality free kick. We were still in the game but the changes were needed to wrestle the game away from Watford which we eventually did finding the equaliser but unable to find the winner. Very good dynamic early in the game but seem to be lacking ideas or that extra bit of quality to cause Watford enough problems. In that first half Watford eventually got the ball down in the midfield to control the game and get their dangerous forwards into the game. Inoussa added quality for us, Widell provided the movement that had became stagnated after the promising start and our new signing Stamenic added a bit of more dominance in the midfieldwhile not doing anything particularly eye catching in that holding role but with quality, the eye catching play was left to Galbraith who seemed intent on providing telling movement and that delightful cross. Think we lost our way in that first half, Vipotnik had a point to prove in the second Galbraith takes the game by the scruff of it's neck. I presume we will see Vipotnik start on Tuesday but he has to make an impact if not Wales given a second half run out.

Swansea City v Watford : Match day thread on 16:24 - Aug 23 by onehunglow | You know what your eyes tell you Today Cullen was really truly a waste of a shirt One we should have moved on seasons ago but we’ve stuck with him as he’s local and nice Apparently It IS damaging to play him for the fact he doesn’t grasp offside , has weak feet, has no pace or heading ability VIP missed a sitter to win the game due to his lack of flexibility and ability He’s not very good Galbraith has surely ensured Key doesn’t start Key has always flattered to deceive and again today gave away a dumb foul I’m Hoping Sheehan has the balls to do the obvious but I’m Not sure he will Semantic simply has to start My team from what we have Vig Galbraith Ben Cam Tymon Ron Semenic Wittel Innousa Wales VIP Bold but why not start a game as if you want to win |
The late chance that Vipotnik almost got on the end of was no sitter , the keeper parried Franco’s shot away from goal at about chest height and ball was moving very fast ,I doubt there’s a striker out there that would rate that as a nailed on chance .

That was just a ricochet that didn’t quite fall to him. No blame attached there. He did take his goal well, he actually found some space and got rewarded, it was still a good finish though. It’s his performances since he’s been here that are the problem.

No chance there for Vipotnik but he did have a chance with his left foot after good movement and passing but he didn't take it, almost missing the ball completely, one off chance missed another example of his issues?

Might be the first time I’m going back from Swansea with a tan! Off to Joe’s now for my second one of the trip before trucking back. I’ve been away for 25 years now but down here is still home.

Yes absolutely. The difference Stamenic made was immense. He’s got to be starting soon. Inoussa as well. Their fullback had his feet up against Eom. Inoussa tortured him. Hopefully he can start playing longer. I thought Widdells movement and energy was great. Didn’t quite come off for him at times, but it will. Galbraith at fullback was a revelation. Were obviously lacking up front, but there’s a very good team there when everyone is fit and firing.

You’re spot on about Galbraith’s performance at RB and Stamenic looks a really good signing, I hope he continues to play like that ,Galbraith’s energy is awesome so maybe we need to get a new RB in so we don’t weaken the midfield . After the last couple of seasons it’s nice to have such a strong midfield squad to choose from ,knowing that whoever comes off the bench doesn’t weaken us

If you were offered O'brien at his costs and potential sale value or Galbraith with similar, who would you choose. Much as I thought O'brien was brilliant for us I would choose Galbraith he is a diamond. The recruitment team have pulled a blinder there.

When Pratley said he was the best player he’d ever played with I did feel a tiny bit sceptical. Not now - he’s been fantastic since Spain

Loved this from Marko Stamenić…. "I do my role and I fight for the badge," he said looking back on his debut cameo. "I fight for my team-mates. In that situation, I saw a danger threat , and I thought, 'just take him down and eliminate him'. How long have we waited for a player that has a bit of dog, plus the skill (and height) ? 👍👍👍

Agreed but he gives us hight in midfield which we have sadly been lacking, Fulton apart. He also appeared to be strong in the tackle and tried to play the ball forward. As you say wait and see, but for me the basics are positive. I will go out on a limb here but in a couple of months I reckon we will have the best midfield in the league, on the pitch and on the bench.

All the ingredients are there for sure. We certainly have the options available to swap things out to give players a rest or if they wobble a bit in form. Might be an idea to ease Yalcouye in a little more than we have. After an explosive first 20 minutes against Sheff Utd he's flattered to deceive a little since. Maybe a straight swap for Stamenic at Hillsborough.

I think Yalcouye is struggling to get used to intensity of the Championship, he doesn't get the time on the ball he is used to. He needs to either get his body between the player and the ball or move it on quicker.

That's the way I see it too. Not his fault by any means but it can take a while to get the hang of the pace of English league football. Probably the main reason why Brighton, being really quite good at developing players, have loaned him to us in the first place instead of keeping him there. Time is on his and their side. Stamenic is a big bugger (probably the Maori) and should have a genetic advantage when it comes to the physicality. We have a lot of potential reasons to get excited about our midfield options this season. Win that battle and you have a very good chance of winning the game.
