Spot on again. The cheering when Madsen was replaced was telling .
I think he’s days are numbered here.

Well I think it would probably be best for all concerned if we got him a move TBH, but the money we paid to get him here it wouldn't be easy finding anybody willing to match that to take him at his level.

I agree Field and Madsen just not good enough. What a difference Varane made when he came on! Hope to see Morgan back in midfield now too.

Meanwhile the women won 7-0 at MK Dons so they know how to put the ball in the back of the net.

I feel a bit for Madsen. I thunk he really wants to succeed but somehow when he gets on the pitch he seems to partially freeze. No real idea why but I also think the pace of the Championship is too much for him. It's actually quite painful to watch because you have a player who for some reason, just can't do it. Unfortunately we paid £2m for him so I fear the club is almost bound to try and try again to get it to work for him, because the only way we'll make anything like £2m for a sale for him is as parts on eBay. Then again, we bought Dykes for £2m and sold him for £1m so it would be in keeping with the general clusterf*ck that is our ability to sell certain players on at a heavy loss. It could be cheaper just to keep him and really hope for the best.

Never knowingly right.

I was in Watford side stand opposite dug-outs and on 18 yard line in line with Morgans superb strike,

A few things stood out from that side view,

1) Most obvious being Morgan seemed to be at least 5 yards+ ahead of the defensive line and Watford seemed to target this

2) Why was Cook playing Left Centre Half rather than his preferred position as Right Centre Half, which is his more comfortable side & where he could have coached Morgan through the game positionally,

Booing was clear to hear 100 yards diagonal to away end where I was, as was jeering when Madsen was subbed, the Manager & Nourry were a lot closer than I was, so should have got the message.

Thanks Clive. A very reasoned article. I think QPR fans have all the patience in the world with a team that competes We just have no ticker.

In the two games this season I honestly don't think he's been that bad, and you can see the logic of what Stephan is trying to do by sitting him deeper and using him to take the ball from the defenders and pass it forward with some intent. To my eye he is at least trying to be more involved, and against Watford even won a couple of headers - not exactly setting the world alight but he does seem to have remembered he's 6'4" finally. The problem is that in a two-man midfield with him and Field we're damned either way - Field can't progress the ball well enough and Madsen doesn't defend well enough, so whichever way around you put them in it's dysfunctional. That's the difference Varane makes.

I didn't think he was good, but I think it's as much about being put in a role he isn't good at against a team that's a lot better set up than ours is - in that formation we're asking a duck to bark and being surprised he keeps quacking. I guess my point is that we've seen where he can be effective at the back end of last season, and it isn't playing as the deeper one of a two, and he does at least seem to be trying whereas his really rough run in the first half of last season he didn't even seem to want to be on the pitch.

Great report, love the reminder that it’s very early in the season and us fans have a big part to play in lifting the team.

Madsen seems to suffer from the ‘Ozils’ - obviously he is nowhere that level but he looks like he isn’t trying when of course he is. Think he’ll be out the team pretty soon but I don’t agree with jeering him off the pitch.

Madsen was diabolical. It was noticeable that Morgan's first couple of touches were dreadful, but he pulled himself together and put in a decent performance, capped with a brilliant goal. Not sure Madders has the cojones to mentally drag himself up to where he needs to be once things start going against him.

And it wouldn't have made a difference, but Louza took at least three minutes to get off the pitch after being sent off, following long remonstrations with the ref and the fourth official, but we got barely an extra minute added on for it.

I think we absolutely need to get Hayden in there, if we can fit him into the wage structure. He's proven at this level, knows us should slot straight in, "only" 30, so we can get a few years out of him still while on the other hand he is old enough to count as one as the experienced hands. Makes sense to me on so many levels.

I think Morgan will play a big part for us this season . His attitude is outstanding and for one so young. He will only improve.

Sorry Clive, you’ve got it all wrong.
Don’t you know the project works by not being dependent on any one individual. People can come and go seamlessly, players, managers and coaches, because we have a system built on distributed and collective accountability and responsibility.
Missing players in key positions in the squad, LB CM? No problem, the DOF has oversight of all of that, and the recruitment team have been working round the clock to get us ready for the gift of early season fixtures. It’s a surprise we’re not overprepared to be honest.
Coach new to the league, needs to get up to speed with the key challenges of the division? No problem, the DOF and team will have fully prepared the briefings needed to give him everything he needs to know from day one. Top of the list - we can’t play a midfield 2 particularly away from home in this division. The experts on the football staff witnessed it all last season and we’re not stupid enough to make that mistake again. The DOF has made sure the Head of Methodology has a 3-man midfield right at the top of the list of methodologies we need to stick to.
Championship players are running now more than they ever did we’re told. No problem, we’ve known about this for ages and have geared our fitness programme to having everyone ready to go from day one of the lenient fixture schedule we’ve been presented with.

The strategy is there for all to see, all bases covered, robust, flawless, its brilliant.
If you see something different– lack of key players, fitness, a coach not up to speed – that’s on you and all the other old farts who just don’t understand how these things work.

If and when it’s time to ditch the coach the DOF and team will collectively agree it was the correct and accountable thing to do, because nobody is more important than the project.

Great report. It is interesting how supporters are starting to give up with patience. A hammering at Coventry and after 3 games i think the pressure will be felt. Pretty extraordinary but likely to be true.
1 We are not fit enough. Ridiculous.
2 Another foreign manager who thinks he can reinvent the system. He will change or we will be in a real mess.
3 Stefan smiles too much and it is getting annoying already.
4 Playing that team at Plymouth i think has had a very negative effect. Regardless of it being a cup of little standing as fans we experience lost 2 drawn 1 , team looks unfit, playing the wrong system for the division and frustrations grow. All this plays out with a blame game and in double quick time Stefan is under pressure from the fans. He should of played a better team at Plymouth and should of been informed about The Championship. He absolutely did not watch all the games as he claimed. And if he did we have real issues.

Good report again which largely I agreed with - a couple of points I'd challenge would be:

Madsen. He's played 2 games this season under the new manager, his first 45 mins I thought he was good and the team was very good and Madsen was a major reason why. He wasn't very good on Saturday and now the Madsen haters are out in full swing, just seems odd that after just 2 league games, one of which we played some of our best football for a while with Madsen being key, we're now saying he should be sold off and can never play that role...I struggle with that one. A few people have made a big thing about as soon as Varane came on it changed, well, actually as soon as the start of the second half started we were much better and pressing and I felt were on course for a goal. Madsen came off on 61 and was part of the Rangers that looked much better, it didn't all change with his removal.

Field gets an easy ride for me, and I'm a Field fan. He just didn't pass forward on Saturday, once or twice he had an opportunity to get some of our quicker plays played in with a forward thinking pass but bottled it in favour of a safe pass backwards. Limited criticism for me.

And the referee, it's about opinions but I didn't think he was very good. I like one that allows a bit of physical play but thought Dembele and one or two others got some rough treatment which he allowed it to play on, which is fine, but similar stuff I felt he was penalising us for.

Madsen has a lot of ability on the ball but is not great when put under pressure and it's gonna be rare that he gets a lot of time and space on the ball as he did in the end of season dead rubbers when he looked good

I'd stil be looking to get some money for him and Celar this window if they can

There were a couple of things I really didn't like on Saturday that for some reason stood out (both in the first half).

Madsen pass to Smyth about 10-15 yards inside the Watford half. It should have been a very routine short pass putting Smyth into space but somehow he sold Smyth short and it was swiftly intercepted and Watford were on the break.

Morgan with the ball on the right again maybe a little inside the Watford half with Dembele in space ahead inside and level between two Watford defenders. Instead of playing to me what looked like a very obvious attacking ball either chipped or outside for Dembele to run on to, he just turned and passed back. I didn't get it - it was a speculative opportunity but with the ball in behind even if the defender had got there first he'd still have had to beat Dembele to retain possession.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Very good post .

Only slight caveat is that it isn’t ’just 2 games’ though is it as far as Madsens concerned.
I genuinely would love him to succeed , but that might involve putting him at 10 and moving Chair wide left but he can’t press either so what we do about it I just don’t know .
At some point , not sure when , we may have to admit defeat .

It's a fair challenge.

I guess I'm just coming at it from a "wiping the slate clean" position, giving the guy some leeway for adapting to a new country, environment and clearly being a shy, nervous character and so his time starts this season for me. That's also taking into account this is a new Manager, with fresh ideas and a different way of playing. All those things considered, a decent 45 mins and one poor 45 mins isn't worthy of giving up on him in my opinion.

I do agree there will come a time when we may have to cut our losses, but I just think it's far too early for that.
