Anyone see the penalty Leeds got? on 22:10 - Aug 18 with 2495 views | thame_hoops | I thought VAR was supposed to eliminate these howlers. It’s so inconsistent, you could see that happening again on Saturday and not being given, correctly so.
Anyone see the penalty Leeds got? on 22:11 - Aug 18 with 2489 views | eghamranger | Interested as I have 2 Everton players in my fantasy league. What are you meant to do with your arms??? Would be fuming . Talk sport will go on about it all day
Anyone see the penalty Leeds got? on 22:14 - Aug 18 with 2464 views | Lblock | Clearly we all want to get back to the top table for the money it brings However I see things like this and the Eze free kick decision via their stupid cameras and I think sod that. It’s so boring and predictable when Sky are in town Be great to win promotion Take the money and run back to the crazy Championship

I said it in 2014 (?) on Zamora Day. You win the play-off and you should be able to choose if you want to go up. I would have rather had another season in the Championship with a new manager than a Premier League season under Redknapp. Thats not hindsight btw. We should have been given the chance to pat Derby on the head and say off you go to the Promised Land. And pat Redknapp on the head and simply say off you go - don’t care where just make it far away.
Anyone see the penalty Leeds got? on 22:38 - Aug 18 with 2290 views | SydneyRs | Any suggestions that things might be engineered for Leeds to get a nice home win so sky can gush over their amazing fans and show them singing I predict a riot are of course unfounded.

Anyone see the penalty Leeds got? on 22:51 - Aug 18 with 2218 views | Watford_Ranger | Thought it was wrong at the time and on one replay it definitely looks like it is while another suggests maybe not. Both Neville and Carragher adamant it was a pen which surprised me a bit so what do we know? | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Anyone see the penalty Leeds got? on 23:28 - Aug 18 with 2068 views | numptydumpty | I didn't see it but anyone who did, see Iroegbaenum played for 70 minutes until he was replaced by a lesser mortal of the name Grealish. He was ok for us, but ultimately very young but am amazed to be fair that he has got minutes for two relatively middling premiership teams in Villa and Everton. We had him and Jack Clarke on loan who both did not a great deal here and have gone up the chain a few levels... [Post edited 18 Aug 23:29]

he leaned with his body to block the shot with his arms by his side. Same incident will be given as not a penalty next week with VAR saying the opposite of tonight, is all nonsence. Live games in that league are unwatchable at the moment, I just watch the highlights now

No gazza, the ball hitting the arm is not a free kick/penalty. This is the one law that still states it has to be intentional. HANDLING THE BALL For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. Not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence. It is an offence if a player: deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised scores in the opponents' goal: directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental The goalkeeper has the same restrictions on handling the ball as any other player outside the penalty area. If the goalkeeper handles the ball inside their penalty area when not permitted to do so, an indirect free kick is awarded but there is no disciplinary sanction. However, if the offence is playing the ball a second time (with or without the hand/arm) after a restart before it touches another player, the goalkeeper must be sanctioned if the offence stops a promising attack or denies an opponent or the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

I haven't seen the incident Gazza but you are oversimplifying the law. The ball hitting his arm (without him moving his hand or arm towards the ball) is not an offence. As for not wanting to be in the Premier League. It is a league for the entertainment of armchair fans. Actual fans are treated with, even more, contempt by the scheduling of matches and with the added razzamataz of VAR. Corruption with dodgy managers and transfers is, allegedly, rife, as we witnessed previously. It's only attractions are the money available to clubs, most of which is wasted, and the vastly overpaid but more talented players. I am in the same loose club as Ted and DaveB not watching live matches, only watching highlights. A choice between a season ticket at the Rrrrrs and a Sky subscription is an easy one.

Rules eh, bottom line is that I am not sure many of us know the rules. He moved towards the ball to block the shot (arm by his side), it hit his arm, pen in 'my book'.....but hey, I do not actually know but I would expect the people who made that decision knew and I agree with them.

Anyone see the penalty Leeds got? on 10:07 - Aug 19 with 1133 views | BazzaInTheLoft | Things would be simpler if you took the need to interpret intent out of it. Just make it: 'Any connection between the ball and the hand, wrist, or forearm is a foul. It does not matter if it deliberate or not' Makes it consistently even then doesn't it.

You'd get players deliberately hitting an opponent in the hope it might catch part of the arm. If the arm is by the side, it becomes how much of the ball hit the arm. We already have plenty of 'not enough for a penalty or 'the goalkeeper must be stronger' moments. We don't need more debates that take ages on VAR. I think we should go back to deliberate handball.
Anyone see the penalty Leeds got? on 11:16 - Aug 19 with 950 views | stevec | I don’t know why they don’t design a shirt without arms and you just keep your arms inside the shirt itself. Make the shirt elasticated enough to move the arms relatively freely and the player could justifiably ‘expand’ in situations like last night to protect your goal without conceding a penalty. Player goes round the keeper, you expand yourself on the goal line, player tries to run by you, you expand to block his path. So many positives to an armless shirt and renders VAR and the ref useless. The only potential downside I can see is if they make the keeper wear one as well.
