I think he is a decent player, I can't understand the stick some people give him.

He's much more than decent.

One of the first names on the teamsheet for me.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

He's not as good as Declan Rice though.

I think he's great for us. Just needs Varane back with him for now.

Never knowingly right.

Exactly Varane is vital to play that holding midfield role. Get him back, fit and on form. Field alongside, we have fight to challenge anyone. We won’t dominate the midfield but we won’t bend over either.

Criticism of him feels coordinated.

Smyth too.

Not by me because I think Field is excellent and should be the first name on the teamsheet. I'd also be selling Smyth quicker than you can say 'league 1 at best'

No idea.

i like him but if you are going to play a 2 man midfield he is going to struggle this year

Personally I love the way he breaks the line with his forward passing ability, threading the ball through the opposition defence. The way he has mastered the turning circle of an oil tanker truly is a marvel to behold, putting Johann Cruyff to shame. Kids will aspire to learn the Field Turn for decades to come.
These skills pale into insignificance with how he responds to the crowds shout of 'TURN' when he recieves the ball facing his own goal. Ignoring it completely and sending the ball straight back to where it came from has taken seasons to master.

This free scoring assist machine is an essential cog in the current dynamic QPR central midfield.

Considering the number of sideward and backward passes made by Field each game, Morgan and Varane are much better than him. Morgan and Varane are also younger and attacking minded midfielders.

To me, Sam's like a family member that holds everyone together.

Asking him to DJ his niece's wedding is pointless, it's not in his locker. But he'll be there to help set the decks up; ensure Uncle George doesn't get blotto; Granny isn't ignored; and if there's any trouble, he'll wade in after excusing himself from giving his young nephew a talking to about the perils of smoking pot aged 12.

In other words, he does the jobs no one else wants to do, but which need doing and yes, he'd like someone to do the DJing and to help with the clearing up!

Of course no players are exempt from criticism on here.

But when I read negative comments about Sam Field I simply shake my head in disbelief.

Yeah just doing his job isn’t he: Mid table Championship midfielder.

If he could split a defence apart and take on players we‘d be looking at a £80m Patrick Viera type player, who most certainly would not be with us.

I think he’s our longest serving player too now, and has more than done his bit keeping us up over six seasons. With all the talk of loyalty in regards to Dunne and Cifuentes maybe we should give some out as well as expecting it.

Might not score as many as he should, but totally makes up for it his defensive reactions and blocks at key moments. Reads the game really well and has kept us in so many games.

Field is a 6 and is very good and holding in front of the back four. Often gets across to snuff out attacks when the full backs have been beaten.

Smells like a trout farm in here

No one expects him to split a defence apart but maybe just be able to turn and play forward sometimes. That is possible with a mid table Championship midfielder!

He’s certainly good enough for us and I like him as a player but I don’t think he’s started the season well - whether that’s down to him or the role he’s being asked to perform is open to debate.

I would add, I don’t think he’s improved as much as I hoped in some areas of his game since joining. Thought he looked good in his early days and still do, but the outside of the foot 5 yard nudge back to the centre back remains the go to Sam Field response to receiving possession, and let’s not get into the finishing which remains as poor as when he arrived. In the years he’s been with us, I’d have thought he’d have improved those parts of his game. Still excellent off the ball and our most rattiest midfielder.

Sarcasm being the lowest firm of wit heh,

A bloke who cost next to nothing, who has kept us in this Division for how many seasons, who gives 100% from the 1st to the 90 minutes is undeserving of this snidey diatribe.

As a defensive midfielder at our level, he is consistent and reliable.

People have a pop at his attacking intent. This is not part of his game, although occasionally he can do well here also, but it's not the player he is.

Football is a team game, and there are eleven different job roles to be filled on the pitch and to be a success as a team, play the best players for a position in the roles they perform best. That's what the manager has to achieve and that is all..

We have seen so often the square pegs in round holes, it dont work.

Fields presence is noted most, when he isn't playing. We dont do well.

Even, today football is not rocket science.

Would suggest that the criticism of Field is by people that dont understand the dynamics of a team and how you get two plus two to equal five !?!!!

You can find them and by their nature, they much prefer it, when we struggle, as they become very vocal.....

It's a team game and Field is decent in his specific role.

He has survived six managers here and has been a first team pick with all of them.

I nominate WilkinsWaterCarrier as the next manager and he can pick our best eleven that could all dovetail into a decent side. He clearly has more footballing nouse than Sam Field ???

Some of our fans are beyond clueless,

We buy a CDM to screen the back 4 for a £1m quid odd and some of our fans expect Kevin de Bruyne's midfield skillset,

A bloke who gives everything for our club every game, without him we'd have been long relegated,

A cult heh, yep, maybe one of common sense & people who understand modern football and the many different types of player that are needed in the modern team game.
