Rome wasn’t built in a day…… 17:35 - Sep 18 with 2240 viewsTripleNiemi

Just seen that Alfie has quoted Will Still as saying ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it also wasn’t built on a load of rubble, which is what we were reduced to here last season’…….

A pretty damning view from our Manager on the state of things eh……

A Sport Republic celebration of success???

We March On

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......

'A load of rubble"
Like the first half against Portsmouth then.

He needs to be outspoken about how we arrived where we are but , more importantly, he needs to deliver now and start organising this squad to start winning games.
Writing the obvious here.

Will is right. We cannot expect him to put things right in one season. Two at least will be needed, maybe three or four.

I fear you are right.

From a mid table Premier League club to a mid table Championship club.
Sport Republic; getting away with murder.

Excuses Excuses. We have spent the most money on new players in the championship. If Rylan can get us back up at the first attempt after losing our best players, so should anyone. The excuses won't wash with me and I suspect much of the crowd. We are Southampton, not Wrexham or Oxford. Hull have far far inferior players on paper. No excuses, start winning Will.

Far bigger clubs than us have languished in the lower leagues regardless of the your Wrexhams and Oldhams. Who ever thought the likes of Wednesday would still be outside the top flight and Forest took years to get back up. Not making excuses, but we could be here for a while. A damning indictment on what was a fairly established PL club.

I was all for Will Still when he was appointed (still am). But lets be honest, its been a terrible start. We should of lost all 3 home games and we could be on 2 points right now. He knew what he was walking into, so quit with the excuses. Spending 50mill means you have to hit the ground running. Bournemouth lost 4 out of 5 of their back 5, yet are flying.

I had my doubts from the start. He's inexperienced. With that you get naivety. He's now starting to jitter and get the excuses in as the pressure starts to get heavier. And this is because he is doubting himself, as young managers that haven't done it before, do. I wanted an experienced, been there done it, no nonsense championship manager to sort this sh!t out, not another experiment. I'm not convinced at all. He needs to start convincing, as despite a few calls to give him two years and give him time, well that won't wash if we keep losing and drawing. He needs to start winning or the crowd will turn.

We can't risk being another Sheff Wed or Oldham. That's exactly the worry isn't it. We need to act way before that stage.

I like Will, I'm sure he's well intentioned and is giving 100%. But as far as I know, he's never played professional football. Would any other club employ him on that basis?

I like him too but that's not the point. I don't like Klopp, I didn't like Alex Ferguson as a manager and others, but they were great managers, and thoroughly respected winners. I'm not overly worried about who i like. I like them if they win games for Saints!.

Will Still is a highly rated manager based on what? One average season with a French team? Is there is prediction machine or time machine somewhere to tell us he will be good? How can anyone guess he will do well, if he's never done it?

He's just another Sport Republic experiment. He's never won promotion,.never managed in England let alone the championship. And never been a footballer. Apart from not having a striker, hes got a good squad at this level and we have been playing terribly. He needs to start winning games and bringing back a bit of respect to this club.

Ultimately, I blame Sport Republic for the continuous f@ck ups and desperately disappointing games and results.

If there is a time machine for predicting future players it needs mending. Changing the manager will work as well as it ever did. Not at all. This. Whole shyt shower is the fault of the incompetent money-grubbers Sports Republic and that is why nothing has changed - the owners have a venture capital scam, classic asset stripping. It is time this sort of behaviour was made a reason to disbar an organisation from owning a football club.

It has to happen sooner than that. Unfortunately managers do not get that amount of time. If teams don't perform the way that fans want situations get toxic very quickly

I think Still will come good but he doesn't have two seasons to do it

Still explains why Southampton midfield partnership hasn't thrived | Daily Echo https://share.google/all3QZMTlZVRO3ygm

They're still stuck in Rylan's sideways/backwards, especially Downes, which is what we were talking about earlier. Having a week to work on bad habits might help, but our lack of fast forward movement has been shocking.

Exactly this. We have no divine right to be in the premier league , unless you spend really big what’s the point in being in it anyway ? . Bigger clubs than us Sheff Wed, Forest , Leeds spent many years in the championship and Wednesday still there. All clubs go through good and bad times except minted clubs who buy success year in year out . Some of our fans need a reality check .

So you do not think the squad we have is good enough to challenge for a play offs sport?

You are right big clubs do spend time in the lower leagues, after all only 15 seasons ago we were playing in the 3rd division.

Clubs go down and stay down mainly by having bad transfer windows and badly managed from the top.

I’d be very surprised if this team finished in the top six.
Nothing I’ve seen suggests they’re capable.
Happy to be proved wrong.

Is it the team, the manager or both?

I agree from what I’ve seen we will finish mid table under the current circumstances.

If Boro win their game at home to WBA tonight, they'll be 10-points ahead of us already.

It's very early days yet, but I'd rather be in their shoes than ours.

We're all assuming/hoping that we will pick up and start playing good football, climb the table & look a class above. But in order to do that, you have to start putting those good performances in & win games regularly.

Nothing I've seen so far indicates that we are about to do that.

From the top down we’re second rate imo.
No business plan for building a successful football club.
Rubbish recruitment of managers, coaches and players.

In my 60 years of supporting Southampton Football Club I’ve never been so cynical, pessimistic or resigned to the inevitable decline.

Big changes needed to turn this around. Too many folk cruising.

It's just what managers do.

I don't recall much about the playing careers of Tommy Tuchel or Tommy Frank, in truth.

Or the likes of Mourinho or Wenger, going further back.

It's just how the game is nowadays. The nerds have taken over,

I shall support Southampton to the pearly gates and beyond but support is not faith. I have none in our ability to be anything other than serial losers under this ownership. The club has been stolen from the city by these shysters and the football is the last thing on their list - an inconvenience really as all they are is clumsy slave traders. In two years' time we will be in the top half of the table, a division below where we are now and it is sickening to live through
