Kone Burrel switch 04:10 - Sep 21 with 4809 viewsFredManRave

My jaw's still on the floor with regard two the embarrassment of riches that we now have with regard to qualified and competent strikers, that we now have at the club.

Not wanting to pick hairs, but I'm going to anyway, if Kone found himself in the chances/spaces that Burrell had today then we would have won more comfortably.

I'm not sure of Kone's pace but he really should be the guy to lead from the front as he is quite clearly a better finisher than Burrell.

And that's not to diss Burrell, but simply to recognise that over the last 3 (?) games if those chances had fallen to Kone instead of Burrell, we would have won by more.

And yes, I realise we've won the last 3 games but my point stands and if you can't accept that then you don't understand football like what me and gazza do.

I've got the Power.

I don't think we should worry too much, the important thing is that they continue to develop a dangerous striking partnership, the interplay between them is taking off and the goals will come. This is the best strike partnership we have had since Hugill and Wells and they are both our players.

I think the one on one that Burrell had was a great save rather than a miss. 9 times out of 10 that’s a goal.

He just had to lift it and it was a goal.

Kone does lead from the front when we are attacking. When the opposition has the ball Kone drops into the 10 so that Burrell can press.
As Burrell said when he joined, his game is about the relentless pressing.

On the counter attack it means that Kone is usually deeper than Burrell as Kone has already drooped into the 10 role. That also means though that a ball can be hit from back to front, avoiding the press, and releasing the speed of Burrell - see his Wrexham goal.

Pretty straightforward but very effective.

I get what the OP is saying but Kone's hold up play looks too effective and important for him to play in front of Burrel

Kone plays like he is 28 so, hes not even at his peak yet.
Burrell looks okay and standard Champ.

Having these two is what regular clubs have; we have had to suffer some dross up front over the years.
Kelmen for these two was smart business.

Lloyd needs to play for Orient so, he can score a hatful and we can sell him for gazlllions too.

zzzzzzzzzz

Or put it back in the corner it came from. I said on a different threads that he probably wishes he was on the end of his own assists. The day after we signed Kone, someone likened them to Goddard and Allen. Thought it was extremely premature at the time, and they are very different types of players, but in term of a potential potent partnership, maybe, just maybe.

this was only their second game playing from the start together. They already link up very well. This can only get better.

Never knowingly right.

I don't think Kone is the norm. He won League 1 player of the season and Stoke fans were raving about him. Most players who've scored 15 goals plus over the last few years - which he's on target for - are now in the Prem or abroad. So above the norm I'd say. I agree we've had some dross though from Conor Washington to Iain Dowie to Macauley Bonne to Mlakaar. All pants.

Lloyd was there yesterday. Shame about his injury. Hope he's back playing soon.

The sight of Burrell charging towards panicked defenders and keepers trying to play out is wonderful. Kone not only has goals in his locker but also the ability to create for others, what a find.

Meanwhile my Charlton mate went to Sheff Utd away on Saturday and remarked how much better they were after taking Kelman off and changing shape. Magnificent business selling him and replacing with Kone.

Think Kone plays higher than a number 10. He is closer to Burrell than say if Chair or Madsen played in there. IMO I prefer Burrell higher up as playing on the shoulders of defenders with his pace is a big asset. Kone will still get goals from where he is playing.

Smells like a trout farm in here

I like the two, but particularly with Burrel, he looks very raw still. Some heavy touches, ball not under control BUT, he's at the age where he can still improve, (a lot), and has frightening pace which you can't learn. Kone looks the more complete striker to me, and despite coming into football later, looks more polished, which seems strange.

As a pairing, pretty exciting front 2.

Burrell is what Sinclair Armstrong could be if he worked at it.

Very happy with who we have now, over who we had.

For years we've watched the same lone frontman isolated up top, a huge gap between them and any support. Unless they somehow plucked it out of the sky while fending off two brutes up their arse, it'd be coming straight back down our throat.

This slight but brave tweak, helped by having better personnel has created a genuinely interesting dynamic. Can’t wait to see how it plays out again on the big open spaces at Hillsborough.

Yeah, saw that and laughed, Allen and Goddard, different levels but, they have made a good start for sure.

Yes Kone would have buried that chance Burrell had in the second half. The irony is it was Kone’s superb first time ball that made the chance in the first place.

I think Burrell needed to go back across the goalkeeper rather than his near post. Anyway it was a decent save.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Work rate isn't the problem with Armstrong, he just doesn't have anything like enough of the right attributes.
