How about a match thread for this one?

There will be some tinkering this weekend with Oliver Whatmuff off to Spain with the England youngsters. I guess/hope he will be back for the home game against Yeovil on 18th Oct. So the cup match is timely in respect of our League progress.

Apart from that, will there be far more tinkering to rest players as we pass the quarter mark of a so far very successful season?

Has Nebwy got some beef with Dale fans?

When scoring the first goal, his immediate reaction was to run to the Sandy rather than towards his own fans. I know he is an ex-player but can’t remember any animosity either way.

Made me think of the recent Ryder cup where US fans abused Europe players rather than supported their own. Goad rather than celebrate.

He probably saw the daft tweet at half-time from this site's X account.

A different game at FGR i think. As the home team they tried to play on the front foot and nearly scored in the first minute. They also totted up about a dozen corners during the game. We did control the game though i thought and as it wore on we opened them up and should have scored a few more. Apart from a good 15 minute spell we didn't put them under real pressure yesterday and in the first half their keeper had nothing to do. I don't have a problem with shithousery, it's part of tgr game. What bugs me is when Dale fans complain about it as though we don't do it ourselves. Blaming the referee is another classic also, it's always the refs fault. Yesterday wasn't the best version of ourselves, if it was what McNulty suggested a tactical encounter, then he came off second best.

I thought York played really well - certainly better than us bar for 10 mins where we scored and threatened to score again. They controlled the game, passed it better than us and they will definitely be a competitor for top spot looking at that. Rodney had a quiet game and he's one of our biggest forward threats so when he's not really involved it makes us worse. Having shots at goal is a bit of an issue for me - they are definitely not encouraged to do this - the amount of times we are in and around the opposition box but choose to keep passing is infuriating at times. We want to create the perfect goal and as Newby showed yesterday sometimes it's worth just hitting it.

While it is true to say we should shoot more at times, saying they are encouraged not to is pure speculation. Take East's effort that just scraped past the posts shortly before half-time, for example.

Agree, sometimes we do have to give the opposition credit. They were fit and pressed us on the ball throughout the game. Are we capable of playing at that intensity for the full duration, especially against the better teams? Some players obviously aren't without naming names. I think overall fitness levels of the squad has a massive bearing at this level and dictate your style of play. Barnet were relentless last season and York are similar. I watched Smith when he came on yesterday and he looked laboured in respect to those around him, he's obviously not mstch fit yet.

Who was the 7th sub yesterday?

The website says East subbed himself, but who apart from the following?

Moss, Gomez M, McBride, Tyler Smith and Amantchi

With Pettit and Burger not used.

That's a typo.

The 7 subs were those you've listed.

East, Barlow and Rodney went off in the 69th minute, replaced by Smith, McBride and Amantchi.

In the 81st minute, TAR and Mani went off, replaced by Moss and Gomez-Mancini.

Burger and Pettit weren't used.

As stated previously, I agree I felt that York looked more motivated and deserved the win, and I was, like most fans was disappointed with the performance and being beat, but we can't win every game and we need to respond with a positive performance next week.

It was more or less our first team so perhaps most of us expected a bit more. Having said that, the Yeovil home game next Saturday was always more important i think, well it is to me this season when you look at the league table. Maybe subconsciously the players also felt the same way, a bit of catch 22 for everybody. I'm expecting us to come out of the blocks against Yeovil, they're in the doldrums at the moment. Use yrsterdays game as a learning curve for when we next meet up with York.

I don't think so. The yellow cards need to be accumulated in the league.

Yeovil might be in the doldrums after losing to HH yesterday, but they've won three of their last four league games.

Agree, though, I'd expect a totally different game to yesterday.

2 things looking at the highlights.
Poor from Rodney losing the ball for the first corner they scored off.
Secondly, considering we bring every player back for every corner - 3 times Newby was unmarked on the edge of the box for shots - scoring 2 of them.

I was disappointed that we went out so lamely.

The principle of “we can now concentrate on the league “doesn’t wash for me.

We could easily implode in our league games ..it’s far too early in the season to assume anything…for teams at the top of the prem who have a ridiculous number of European games and international games with all the travelling involved I can understand them rolling over to some degree in the fa and league cup .

We have a big enough squad to compete effectively in all competitions..I hope they have a better focus for the fa trophy

I agree with that. We have 29 players....not many sides at this level have the playing squad depth we have. We have to want to win cup games too - if nothing else because it will bring fans through the gate. Playing most of our first 11 suggests we did intend to win it. There were a lot of new fans at the game on Saturday and they will have gone home disappointed. I was chatting to one of them - and he won't be coming back. He was expecting an exciting game given our league position.

On a seperate note - did anybody think there were a lot of police at the game on Saturday. Including some that appeared to be from Cheshire Police. Maybe it was a training game. But I wasn't expecting any problems with York fans. Although do think it is about time the authorities started fining clubs for offensive chanting. We don't tolerate anything racist, sexist, homophobic and quite rightly so, but fans thinking that singing about paedo's at a football match is okay need to be called out. It has to be punished or it will continue. It's not funny.

The commentators on Radio York did mention at the very beginning of the game that some York supporters had been returned to York on the train…poss prob at the station or on route?

Apparently a group of York fans were turned around in the Town centre before the game and put back on the train to York. I don't think there was any trouble up at the ground, the Dale and York fans seemed well behaved. Football fans have been singing obscenities since our grandparents day, it goes with the territory unfortunately. The ones who refer to Rochdale as aTown full of paedos know that isn't really the case, they're trying to wind up the oppositiion fans. Don't take it too serious. Not sure how you think you could stop three or four hundred people chanting anything about paedos if thats what they wanted to do.

The grooming gangs have given the Town a bad name, the chants are a reflection of that. Dale fans refer to Oldham fans as BIFFOS, it's all tongue in cheek, i once met a Oldham fan who was vertically challenged and wasnt at all ignorant. It's a football match, sometimes stuff happens that isn't right, a reflection of life really.. good and bad. The club have enough to do, they can't be responsible for what the away supporters chant in respect of the Town and paedo's. The stewards and police would be pretty powerless also. If that's how those singing perceive the Town to be then that's their perogative.

On the game I thought two good sides who on reflection will both Challenge at the top end of the national league all season.

Newby excellent for York, possibly MOM. There was a first half warning when he was unmarked at the edge of the Dale box, his shot just wide.

Edge of the box unmarked (2) was an absolute beauty fair play.

Edge of the box unmarked (3) was the winner all be it a howler from our keeper.

Over 90 minutes eradicate the needless defensive errors (What was Beckwith trying to do first half!!) and be more ruthless final 3rd we are easily a match for York City.

Bring on Yeovil, lets crack on now with this National League priority. I would like to go as deep as possible in the FA Trophy given no FA Cup matches this year.
