Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) 01:39 - Oct 13 with 10202 views | ModeratorC | The Swans travel to St Mary’s Stadium for a fixture against Southampton this Saturday. (12.30pm) Recent visits to the Saints haven’t gone that well, but there is potentially a more level playing field this time around. The issues for the Swans will be the late returns of players like Cameron Burgess who won’t be back in the UK until Wednesday evening. Eom will be back by Wednesday afternoon latest but then for these two players there are time differences to overcome. Burgess from the USA and Eom from S.Korea. Plus assessments including sprint and fatigue tests which will determine their availability for this weekends game. (Sources) We should also be aware that the Swans are travelling to this game on Friday afternoon from their West Wales base. Put all that together with an early Saturday kick off and any form of result from this fixture will be welcome. I was there the day JJS hit a late winner down there though. Be surprised if we get anything from this one.

hope you are wrong but can see where you are coming from,if we are going to be in the top 6 these are the games the lads will have to go the "extra" mile for and be competative for the full game not the 90 mins, this block of games will showwhere we are, my opinion of course

Any game after the international break is difficult, more so if its away and to a recently relegated team. If we get anything it will be a bonus, I look at it as a free hit. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We shouldn't fear them they have only one twice in the league. Let's have at least a 70 min display of the Swansea way instead of 45.

Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 17:14 - Oct 16 with 2862 views | JJBomber | With 7 games in 22 games, there are bound to be players rested at some stage. So why not rest the internationals first up? OK, there will be some who are keen to play. Then Galbraith only came from Northern Ireland, while Viggy's match with Chile was called off. I'd be resting Burgess to be fresh for Wednesday, probably Eom as well. We have strength in depth in most positions.

Agree , I would put West Ham lad in alongside Cabango and see how the young fullback gets on instead of Key. Bring Key on after 60 mins. to bomb forward . Galbraith rested until 60 mins. too . We have to start using all squad members to share the load now is as good a time.

Kaelan Casey. Yes, I would start him with Cabango. Sam Parker and Samuels-Smith will see some game time over the 22 days. Not sure it will be this weekend, but 3 home games would be a good time to use them.

Seeing Key had a rest away from the club in the international break I can't see him rested for Parker.

Which one of Cabango or Casey would you play on the left side of the defence? Burgess left footed supply to Tymon allows him to press on similar to Cabango's to Key allowing them to push high up the pitch but with them pushing high then cover is needed in a Grimes or Fulton like role , as has been mentioned Stamenic on international duty provides a more attacking midfield role perhaps we need to look at our use of our full backs because it does seem to stifle our progression through the midfield, if we are going to change one of our centrebacks does it make more sense to have our fullback playing a deeper starting role who can firstly mark tighter and offer safer play out from the back with options higher up the pitch in midfield?

Cabango would have to be on the right to cover for Key, so Casey would be on the left. Our full backs do indeed love to attack, especially Tymon. He and Ronald seem to have the most assists, so we need that attacking threat. Should Key stay back more often and cover the defence? That option may change depending on the opposition and would also need to change if we went behind.

We get stifled when our fullbacks get too close to our wingers when attacking, our movement needs to be better, either the fullback attacks and the winger drops off or vice versa , if both get caught too far forward and we lose the ball we are open to attacks from out wide,Routledge and Dyer were excellent at reading the game in those situations and covered the fullbacks really well We also seem to let the opposition have too much space and time on the ball in the middle late in games Something we can work on

Very good point about Dyer and Routs... We've lacked that tactical nous in those areas last few years for sure... [Post edited 18 Oct 11:06]
