After a well-rested International break.

I owe Colin one obviously for his great work against Bristol.

But Project ground control is needed here.

Qpr 3 Millwall 1

Kone, Smyth and Morrisons first QPR goal.

We tame the lions and hopefully their fans don't wreck w12.

RND may be the best left back we have - but that doesn’t make him any good.

And Morrison is maybe decent. Another word for average. My point exactly.

And btw I think Esquerdinha is better than RND

RND is a decent and dependable left back at this level and was excellent business to get him at short notice on a seasons long loan. Is a better bet long term than Larkeche IMO, and hope we sign him at the end of the season.

Yes and agree Esquerdinha has shown great promise so far, but it would be unwise to play him week in week out.

Morrison also has shown great promise and still learning and very young. Think its incredibly harsh to label him as average so far. Showing promise would be my viewpoint.

He walked off looking ok, hopefully just precautionary.

No idea why Dembele has come on.

Vale was having a bad day. His dead balls and crossing were poor.

Morrison is only 22 and has just 65 senior appearances to his name. Think he will become an important player for us. If he can end this season with 30+ appearances, then I think he will show big improvements next season.

Great shout about Chaie, Wilkins, and playing on the deck.

The game was crying out for him and I imagine he'd have done some real damage playing off Kone. Why not start Kolli?
They had two big lumbering CBs who were having a lovely time dealing with pretty aimless crosses for almost 75 minutes.
The contrast between those 75 minutes and the last 15 once Frey was replaced was pretty stark.

The other issue I thought was not playing Mbengue from the start, the lack of pace to deal with the ball over the top caused us big problems. We have a GK welded to his line so need pace, unfortunately it led to their 1st goal.

JS has to take some of the blame today.

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣

Given his pre arrival build up I think RND has done ok. Shows great anticipation and gets up and down his line well.

Definitely partly at fault for their first today.

Overall I do think Morrison is decent, but he was very poor today in the little he had to do imo. Apart from the bollock he dropped with Nardi for the opening goal, I thought Cook had a decent game.

When Mbengue came on he made a real difference and upped our levels

Mbengue has a bit of pace and is comfortable running with the ball through the press. Makes a massive difference and opens up the midfield.

Not enough pace with Kone and Frey up front in a 2. Frey can barely run.

Vale got absolutely no joy crossing from the right, didn’t find a Rangers player once, but crossing into the box against Wall is never likely to achieve much. Playing through the lines at pace and on the deck should have been the strategy and we only saw glimpses of that when the subs came on. Too little too late unfortunately.

RND I thought was solid.

I think RND has been good for us and I actually think he had a good game again today. Obviously it's all about opinions.

But I am also excited about Esquerdinha and think he's going to be a very decent player. While I think it's a shrewd move to limit his playing time and not chuck him straight in, I'd like to see him get a lot more minutes than he is currently

I think RND is fine. Yes, he has his limitations going forwards but having seen Paal, Hamaleinen, Larkeche and other 'pretenders' to the role of left back in recent seasons I am OK with a left back who is steady in our own half but less glitzy going forward.

Anyway, I think the argument detracts from the main point from today which is why did we keep pumping balls into their box when they had two 6ft 4 centre backs heading it clear on every occasion.

JS even said in his pre-match interview that they were a very tall physical team so the tactic of pumping the balls into the box was never going to work. We should have had two of our small number 10's on from the start (regardless of international duties, we had 5 of them available, plus Kolli and Burrell) and tried to play it through their centre backs.

Not only that, we didn't even seem to change the tactic even when Saito and Dembele were introduced ....

Millwall look perfectly constructed for the Championship; big, strong, quick and very well schooled. They'll be in the top 6 at the end of the year.

As for us, I thought we played pretty well for half an hour, without really sticking it to them. Got into some good positions but then put in a slow, lofted cross easily won by their giant CBs or a slightly overhit pass that meant the recipient had to readjust. We needed to move the ball quicker, especially in the final third. Vale looked off the pace, not sure he fancied the physical side of it, and our centre midfield pairing were no match for theirs. Smyth our best player by some margin, but solid enough performances from most of the others. But we never gave up and are still a work in progress, so I'd say I'm disappointed but not disheartened by the result.

Probably all been said. A very decent performance with plenty of chances created. On another day.

I just wonder about the psychology of being Scared of Success here. Is it simply that Millwall, in recent seasons, have sampled the heights of the Top Six (Top Half in fact) far more than we have and we're just not used to it - yet? It's Vertigo. But continue on our trajectory and it will come.

To borrow from Clive in his preview, today's defeat in itself - not a problem (it's learning). Today's defeat leading to an 'Olly-QPR-style' Autumn/Winter Death Spiral - problem.

Just back first 45 probably the best of the season and end up two down . Ridiculous!. I thought Frey was the wrong one to start pre game would have preferred Kolli if not Burrell but he was away too I guess but I thought Frey had a decent 40 minutes and linked well with Kone. Smyth was excellent for the first 40-45 as well. Final ball throughout the team was the problem. Really only Varane had poor game IMHO and been quite shocked by some of the reaction on shitter as they seem to have been. watching a different game to me.

Second half first 15 not great until Burrell and Saito came on and we were unfortunate not to get the 2nd.

Hate to lose and hate to lose in a Derby but was a genuinely entertained and you have to give credit to Millwall and their Basketball sized defence.

If anything this type of game was crying out for a Chair type of player with a bit of nouse and individual skill to break them down.

Norrington-Davies continues to impress and is a significant upgrade on Paal.

I think it was mentioned on the QPR podcast that VAR is coming in next year. Probably would have had 3 penalties or more with that at least 2 on Frey first half, I've not seen it yet but suspect Burrell's goal was offside. Ref overall was very very lenient

You obviously watched a different Smyth to me. His habit of falling over every time there's any contact, which then gets rightly waved away by the ref is infuriating. He was lucky not to be done for elbowing their fullback, I thought Saito was a massive upgrade today.

Exactly how I saw the game. Thought we didn't do enough that was effective and Millwall were pretty comfortable, even though we were on top for most of it.

Always a big fan of Cook and thought Nardi was culpable for the first, but trying one of his overheads rather than heading it into the danger zone with 2 mins to go was utterly stupid.

Thought their numbers 7 and 11 won the game for them, once they went off our defence was more comfortable.

Nardi definitely at fault, should have come for it with the intention of catching or heading if it dropped before the 18 yard box, he had the time to do it but stopped.

The ball over the top exposed our lack of pace at the back, as it does every time Mbengue isn’t out there, and we’re no great shakes at it even when he is out there.

Frey in front of Kone simply doesn’t work, I like Burrell but we really need to think about playing Kone as CF against the better teams. The few chances we got around the box he’d more likely snap up.

Just back - how the fűck have we lost that game? Wrong starting XI by Stefan. Frey should never start a game, he is slow as rust: Burrell has to start. Two horrible defensive errors gifted the pikeys a 0-2 lead which was always going to be enough for us to lose a game we should’ve won. Don’t understand why the manager didn’t make the changes at HT rather than playing another 15 minutes with a setup which wasn’t working. My MotM was Norrington-Davies but pretty much pisspoor all round today.

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

I didn't think Frey was too bad to be honest it worked 1000% better than at Oxford game personally would prefer Kolli if Burrell can't start but they both had long trips. Problem was the final ball not necessarily the finishing or the strikers and their link up too often the ball was played just behind or not crossed with enough pace

Leonard attempted to disembowel himself and Smyth at the same time in the first half.

If anything I thought it was Frey's job to put one on him but Smyth timed his retribution perfectly. Good on him.

He's linked up really well with Kone and Smyth and made at least 3 great layoffs. Also Done should've squared it to him for an open goal instead of drinking a scuffed shot wide earlier on

well I disagree before he used to win 1 v 1 not anymore slow as hell .He can be someone to turn to when it is back to the wall but please dont put him in te starting 11. sure the lineup midweek will be different JS have to manage his squad but today I would have had another path into it. But different views fresh things up Everyone is entitled to a view Cheers!

The problem with his relentless desire to hit the deck, sticking his arse out waiting to be fouled, is that when he is actually genuinely fouled in a dangerous position, the ref is bored of him.

I wish he would tone it down a bit, he's a decent player who should back himself more.

My two pennies worth. Frey wasn’t great and him and Kone are too similar but they were not the main problem.

That was our delivery from set pieces and wide areas, caused in part by our wide players and them all being too narrow and inverted.

Vale had a stinker. But all of them crossed really badly. We had so many good positions and failed to create.

We must have put in 25 crosses. We had 46 touches inside their box. But we couldn’t find a hooper shirt.

The other big problem was Varane. He was very poor. Too slow, caught in possession. Backwards. Inaccurate passing. He’s not really played well at all this season. He’s had an easy ride. Should be stopped IMO.

To be fair the first goal had nothing to do with pace, it was Cook and RND leaving it to Nardi and Nardi then retreating leaving it to Cook and RND.

Totally agree regarding Frey, Kolli would have been a much better starting option.

As for Chair, I am really not sure. For all his talent we know that he can slow the game down and how that would fit in to Julien's current set up remains to be seen.

Defenders don't like playing against Smyth and he chips in with goals and assists.

Surprised that he was taken off, when Vale was subbed I expected Smythe to go right and Saito left, I was not expecting Dembele.

Was looking forward to the game, but the starting line up and bench for me was almost tantamount to throwing the game.

Unfortunately what I thought would happen with the selection came to pass.

I hope JS has seen starting Frey and Kone up top is not an option ever again, please.

Can't gift 2 goal leads to teams like Millwall and expect anything from the game, defensively they were solid. QPR are still a work in progress, but the football is better this season.Thought Nardi's hesitation for their first goal allowed Millwall a foothold in this game. For me it is Burrell and Kone all day up front.
