QPR's road warriors sink ten-man Swans - Report on 03:11 - Oct 24 by simmo
Great report as ever.
I personally think the Steve Cook thing is a disgrace and embarrassment to football, but feels like I'm in the minority as it went in our favour.
Still, 3 big points away and well earned. Roll on Derby
I don't like the dark arts one little bit but on the other hand can't remember the last time we actually bought a red card for the opposition team in a way that has been done to us numerous times (player goading stupid opposition player, player going down like a sack of spuds, rest of team flailing arms about rushing around as though he's been murdered), so at least it is one back in our favour, whatever I may think of it.
And if you think Cook is a disgrace to football, what do you think of Smyth then? He, yet again, "won" us a dangerous free kick on Wednesday which (ahem) may or may not have been a foul, but in my mind - more importantly - he was yet again obsessed with getting fouled, rather than having his head up to play the killer pass when he had worked his way into a terrific position. He's playing so well now why doesn't he just back himself?

Understand what you are saying, Simmo but that incident sparked Swansea into life and they played better afterwards. Or we played worse - because ten men are more challenging than eleven, clearly.
I’ll take the points every day of the week and twice on Sunday though, especially after the debacle down there last season.
Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Didn’t sit that well with me either. Cringey watching the replays back .
However I’ve said many times before on here and in person how naive we are and way too nice at times . If it was the other way , the lad would have hit the deck too so I can’t have it both ways . I think Cook in a split second regretted not going down for the hands in his face / throat , and when the moron gave him a second opportunity he didn’t waste the chance . All a bit pathetic but that’s the state of modern football .
Great report Clive

‘Got to admire that in a lunatic’ hahaha. Do admire that kind of tenacity, especially when it gets to the point where you think, bollocks might as well join in and suddenly the whole ends doing it. Was worried it had died out along with the demise of wooden seats.
Glad you mentioned Field, quietly got in the way of everything their wide man could throw at us. Mbengue too. We’d have been in serious trouble on a one on one inside the centre circle if he hadn’t been our ‘one’. Swept up the problem such that it never looked like a problem.

MadBen’s pace at the back and ‘Burrelled It’ up front have made a massive difference overall to the team. Add in their physical strength and willingness to run with(ish) the ball and you’d expect them to start most games.
Simple things that didn’t require much data or thinking. Hoping Alfie Lloyd may come back with similar attributes and slightly better control in the future. I miss the chaos, but these guys are massive for us.

My issue isn't specifically with Cook, it's with all of the fake injuries, theatrics and grabbing your face to con the ref stuff. Its embarrassing that these grown men and athletes collapse with the slightest of contact, let alone when there isn't any at all. Every week you see it and it's shameful.
There's a difference between going down with contact to win something you might otherwise not get from the ref if you stay on your feet, and falling to the floor like you've been glassed when another player gets close to you.
I don't care that it works in our favour, or that it's a 'if you cant beat them join them' thing. I don't like it in football at all, and especially not at QPR from your big centre half. Ironically it started because he went over to bollock him about diving, which I am all for!
As for the Smyth point, I completely agree and have pointed out the same in the past. He constantly tries to win free kicks or penalties even when he has the upper hand. It works against him often as he could almost definitely do more by staying on his feet and taking the opportunity that's there.

I don't think it was ever going to, but I think the Cook incident could have cost us a penalty!
Did'nt he push the Swansea player in the chest prior to the "headbutt"? As they were in the penalty area, it doesn't matter that the ball is on the halfway line. It was a big risk to take.

I don’t like it either way but I don’t want to be the only team that doesn’t try and get decisions to go for us and then lose more often than we should because the balance of decisions goes against us.
The thing is that refs don’t give penalties unless the player goes down. They often don’t book a player or give a penalty unless there’s an uproar. Until we get better officials we’re mad to be the only ones playing the ‘right way’. Nathan Jones, Alex Neill and I’m betting Frank Lampard would all tell their teams to wind certain players up to get them booked, sent off etc. Or keep the ball out of play when you’re 2-1 up and going into extra time (remember Millwall).
As for head butting a player I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone not go down in that situation. If Cook had done that to the other guy we’d have blamed him for being an idiot and giving the ref a decision to take. We might not like it any more than we like a lot of things in football but we can’t completely rise above it and compete in a level playing field.

No, I'm with you, and said so on the match fred.
Cook's a big lad. Going down like that is plain embarrassing.
If he doesn't go down and there is no red card you'd have people saying we are too nice etc I don't think he did much wrong, was gormless from the Swansea player

Sound, Dave (and all).
We see this one differently. No hassle.
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
As I said, I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm just not a 'win at all costs' person.
You can be aggressive and very physical at times, but don't deliberately injure a player. You can sit and defend deep to protect a lead, but don't play Paul Hart style abandon all attack for 80mins for the sake of protecting a small lead. You can provoke a reaction or get under someone's skin for an advantage, but don't pretend they've hit you and collapse clutching your face when there is no contact.
I want to see us win, of course, but I'd rather we did it the old fashioned way - by just being the better team!

I'm sure there'd be people who would say that, but I'd be happy if he hadn't have gone down - maybe the Swansea player gets a yellow card, we get on with the game 11 vs 11.
Pretty pathetic from both players in my opinion.

Love Burrell been purring about him since I saw him coming on as sub against Preston. We look dangerous with our attacking options, in my opinion the best since coming down in 2015 or at least since Eze, BOS, Chair, Hugill and Wells from 2019/20.

What’s the Swansea walk out song all about? Sounds a bit “country”?
