Cricket 2025 County/International Thread 13:39 - Apr 9 with 93137 views | Superhoops2808 | With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket. As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled. But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap). Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe) [Post edited 4 Apr 13:14]

Duckett is on a mission. Great watching, impossible to set a field - could be out at any time - could be 6. Who said test match cricket was dead.
| Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Hopefully with bowlers dropping like flies something will be done about the hundred as that's why we've had to play 5 tests in such a short time

The 16.4 should have been strangled at birth. Absolutely ridiculous that the last four weeks of August have no test cricket taking place.

So true. It's crazy that everything stops at the altar of 16.4. A form of the game that's not played anywhere else in the world. It also applies to the county championship. The one month when schools are closed, parents and children have more free time and the game doesn't look to maximise this opportunity at all cricket grounds. What makes it worse for a county cricket fan of Essex, one of the many smaller/unfancied teams, is that all of the bigger grounds will be in use for the majority of August. Whilst the grounds for teams such as Essex, Kent, Worcestershire, Somerset etc are lying dormant for 28 days out of the 30 available, in some instances. It's no surprise that the financial gap is widening between those staging the 16.4 and those that aren't. [Post edited 1 Aug 14:41]

The Hundred should be sacked off and the money invested in T20 instead. Why ? 1) No one else in the World plays it. Laughably we can call ourselves World Champions like the NFL. 2) TV Audiences are dwindling, year on year. 3) It’s Never made a profit, 1st year it lost £20m ! Similar since. 4) They say it’s bring new, young fans into the game. So does T20 (even more it was invested in and marketed better) 5) It’s damaging to County Cricket and as a result Test Cricket and the 50 over game, which has become a 2nd XI Cup. England hardly played any ODI’s for a year after winning the World Cup ! 6) Imagine being expected to support a London football team with players from Chelsea, Fulham, Brentford, QPR, Watford, Luton ? 7) Cricket doesn’t need a 4th version. It’s only plus point is that’s improved the womens game, and that’s only because it’s played prior to the main mens game.

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 07:59 - Aug 2 with 351 views | Superhoops2808 | Have to say, the send off for Duckett was pretty shocking from India and also what on earth was Krishna doing throwing the ball at Crawley - Should have been a penalty. Would love us to win this last test - An angry Root and Duckett in the second innings could be fun to watch.

It's fascinating how a 5 match test series seems to throw up this antagonism when the 3 match series don't, especially in these days with DRS and franchise cricket and everyone having been teammates. I think it is good for the game, good for the spectacle, with every country getting on their high horse and drawing their own imaginary "lines" that players can't cross. We are just as bad as anyone. Having said that, can't stand this Indian side and hope we can do it. With 10 men though, really going to struggle. I know Woakes has dislocated his elbow, but thought he should have come out last night. If Pant, Lyon can do it, why can't he? Not as though he is going to play much more for England again and this could literally come down to a few runs. I thought if Brook has been stranded, it may have been worth a go. Just stand there with one arm and dead bat it. Easy :-)

I would think it's the end of Woakes' international career. I bloody hope it's Overton's.

I assume you’re referring to the bowling attack ? If not, I would put Root up as a case in point. Then make a case for a few other batsmen…..!

Best bet now is not to bowl them out, hope they bat on far too long, then hope the weather forecast, which is a little bit dodgy, gets even worse. Wheels are off!
